Chapter 661: Chapter 308: Conspiracy in Progress

Olivia handed over the rune crossbow arrow, as large as a short spear; this clearly wasn’t a matter of mere tournament cheating or quartermasters being bribed anymore.

If these dozens of riding spears each concealed magic crossbow arrows powerful enough to slay giant beasts… then these magical weapons from the Mage Empire might just be enough to wage a battle.

Leon was still thinking when Olivia suddenly looked towards the warehouse aisle leading to the entrance.

“Leon! There’s a sound of a carriage approaching the warehouse!”

Leon snapped back, immediately attaching the magic crossbow arrow to the belt of his sword: “Pack up, let’s hide.”

He stepped forward swiftly, retying the hemp rope, as Kovis cast a spell to summon the wooden spikes from the ground, stuffing them into the hollow outer shell of the riding spears that Olivia had opened.

Olivia, carrying the riding spear broken into two, retreated to the second floor of the warehouse, while Leon found a nearby hiding spot, using Kovis’s “Shadow Cloak” to make both of them vanish…

Outside the warehouse, the stout quartermaster jumped down from the carriage and shouted to the guard watching the warehouse: “What happened? Who put a tree here at night blocking the way?”

The guard captain quickly stepped forward: “Sir, it wasn’t us, the tree just suddenly fell, maybe the trunk grew crooked and couldn’t bear the weight.”

“Alright, whether it’s you or not, just move it away quickly! How can the carriage get through with it lying across the road?” The plump official said impatiently, waving his hand.

The guard captain helplessly thought, well, he was planning to hand off this mess to the next shift, but now it seemed it was up to them after all… He had no choice but to call his men to move the tree trunk.

After moving the fallen tree, allowing the carriage brought by the quartermaster to reach the warehouse entrance, the guard followed respectfully and curiously asked: “Sir, so late, what are you…”

“Some spare equipment that certain knights bought, couldn’t pick it up during the day, applied to move it at night, I wanted to make some space in the warehouse anyway, don’t ask pointlessly, it’s all logged, you can verify with other officials tomorrow.” The plump official said impatiently.

The guard captain wisely kept his mouth shut, whether it was true or secretly pilfering from the warehouse for personal gain, asking was just performing his duty, saying more would only bring trouble for a small figure like him.

He waved for the others to return to their posts, the guard captain continued watchful duty, yet he couldn’t help but sneer inwardly at the coachman cloaked in black on the carriage…

Wrapped entirely in a black robe at night, foolishly, isn’t that inviting suspicion?

The plump official pulled out a heavy bunch of keys, used the lantern in his hand to illuminate, taking a long time to find the matching key.

Clicking twice, he unlocked the heavy steel core lock on the warehouse door, turning back to call to the people on the carriage to follow.

Two tall men in black clothing jumped down from the carriage bed, following the plump quartermaster inside.

“Finally can get these moved out, oh damn it, hid them so well nearly got bought by other knight masters during the day, scared me nearly out of my wits.” The plump official complained as he led the way.

The two men in black behind him remained silent, their eyes instinctively alert, surveying the dim warehouse surroundings.

The footsteps of the three echoed among the large warehouse stacks, until reaching the depths of the storage where they saw the purpose of their visit.

“Here you go, quickly haul it away, there’s even the spare armor you wanted at the corner, it’s the last batch…”

Before finishing his words, the plump official noticed the two Black Knights from the Kantadar West, ignoring him disdainfully, only focused on inspecting the goods. He mocked: “I say you folks from the Vellozal Territory, really worn out using these things, yet haven’t seen you winning much, what’s the matter? Can’t even beat our northern knights with all this effort.”

Despite accepting a substantial bribe to help them transport non-standard custom combat gear, as an Orlandian, the plump quartermaster felt somewhat smug over the sparse performance of these Kantadar knights in the tournament these days.

He’d heard the Southern Kingdom’s knights faced near extinction last year in the Undead War, seeing this now seemed likely true.

However, the two Black Knights checking the stacks did not respond, merely exchanged a frown, murmuring a few words softly between themselves.

The plump official couldn’t hear them clearly, though he understood Urian, yet comprehended little of the strange Kantadar dialect spoken by the Black Knights.

“Missing one, are you certain… all of them… are here?” One Black Knight turned, asking in heavily accented broken Felu.

“Of course! I counted carefully, how could it be missing?” The plump official exclaimed in surprise.

He then shook his head: “Even if one is missing then one is missing, lacking that one will you still not win? Hurry and take it, if you’re not in a rush, I am, keeping them here is asking for trouble.”

The Black Knight frowned, muttered a curse in a low voice that the other couldn’t understand, grabbed the tied hemp rope, and began moving toward the door.

The plump official watched the two Kantadar Knights, with their considerable strength, quickly shifting the riding spears and armor boxes onto the carriage outside the warehouse; he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

Locking the warehouse door, the plump official boarded the carriage transporting the weapons, glanced at these worthless Kantadar folk beside him, and couldn’t help but feel delight.

These Southern Knights couldn’t even win against the Orlandian Knights despite cheating; his conscience, limited as it was, felt somewhat better.
