Knights and Magic Wand -
Chapter 621 - 621 293
621: Chapter 293 621: Chapter 293 Brandon sensed someone sitting down, he looked up with slightly red eyes and saw Leon.
“Teacher Leon.”
The young man greeted in the Felu language, rising to bow to the Lord.
Leon placed a hand on Brandon’s shoulder, pressing him back into the chair: “I heard the sermons from the Holy Lake Priest stating that in Illaril’s view, the souls of all living beings are equal, including the Prophet himself.
In the place of serenity granted by the Holy Hall, there’s no need to bring secular rituals inside, especially since I am still one of your teachers.”
“Hmm.” The young man understood the modesty of the Lord, and sat back down with reassurance.
“Are you praying for Knight Ron?
Do you still miss him?” Leon asked.
Brandon’s eyes turned red again, unable to hold back: “…
I regret it deeply, I clearly dreamed of such a nightmare…
I should have found him sooner, he shouldn’t have left like that.
I hadn’t had the chance to repay him yet, if only I could learn faster, be more useful…”
Leon patted this child’s shoulder: “Saving many people in Glade County was remarkable, but Sir Ron’s sacrifice wasn’t something you could change, and certainly, he would never want you to face the perils of the Battle of Kilmerton.”
He remembered the promise made to this child before the expedition, that as long as he could use the Holy Lamp, he would be allowed to help Uncle Ron on the Baldim battlefield.
That was merely to give the young man peace of mind, a spiritual goal to remain calm in the rear.
Unexpectedly, after returning to the Thorny Flower family’s territory post-war, he discovered that during the Undead War, Little Gold Coin had indeed controlled some magic elements within him and successfully activated the Guardian Spirit Holy Lamp.
Even though it could only be maintained for a short duration, once this young man achieved it, he immediately sought Baron Brian of the Baron’s territory to inform him of their verbal promise.
Knowing about the acute shortage of spellcasters on the front lines, Brian agreed, dispatching two cavalrymen to escort Little Gold Coin southward.
However, it was already on the eve of the Kilmerton Defense Battle.
Leon heard that the undead wave from Mamor County not only defeated Lydwen III’s Kingdom army but also had tens of thousands of undead harassing the Glade County border.
The raging Corpse Ghost waves and ominous clouds completely severed the roads between Glade and Baldim.
Even the Thorny Flower army couldn’t traverse the occupied zones of the Undead Army, and the two Avalon cavalrymen couldn’t safely deliver Little Gold Coin to Baldim County.
Leading the Glade garrison at the time, Barons Marcello and Reddo, upon learning Brandon was a spellcaster, left the mage apprentice within the Thorny Flower army to assist in defending against the undead.
This apprentice lit the Guardian Spirit Holy Lamp, successfully helping the Thorny Flower Knights defend against some of the invading undead tide, yet the formidable Undead Army still pushed the Thorny Flower garrison into constant retreat.
Until early February of that year, as the curse enveloping Rolandena dissipated, the undead clouds suddenly receded, the Corpse Ghost army plunged into chaos, even starting to kill each other…
the path between Glade County and Eastern Kantadar was reconnected.
Regrettably, by the time the undead tide dispersed across the land, Leon could bring no good news to this child; Knight Ron and many warriors of the Shatai Griffin Group…
perished in the bloody battle within Kilmerton City to cover the retreat of survivors.
When Brandon finally arrived at Baldim County in March post-war, Ron’s remains had already been cremated and buried in the alliance martyr cemetery of Fenlidun City.
Baron Yevan received the boy, fulfilling Ron’s lifelong wish by acknowledging Little Brandon as Ron’s adopted son and heir.
Had the boy not unfinished his magic studies in Avalon, Yevan wouldn’t have hesitated to knight him.
Brandon Ron, this is the name of this once civilian boy now, he chose to take his adoptive father’s name as a surname, to honor his presence.
“Uncle Ron’s courage and conscience will be remembered, his sacrifice saved many, pass on his tale, as long as you live well, his soul can rest in peace.” Leon said softly.
Brandon nodded his head: “…
Thank you, Teacher Leon.”
The teacher’s care comforted the young man’s heart, once again he clasped his hands, closing his eyes in front of Illaril’s statue on the altar to pray.
Leon saw his expression become much calmer, decided not to disturb the boy further, rose and continued to seek Ines’s presence.
“Sir Fanlang, is Princess Ines still in the Holy Hall?” Leon asked the Holy Lake Knight and cultivator passing in the side corridor of the chapel.
“Marshal.” Said the Holy Lake Knight and Holy War Knight who survived the Battle of Rolandena, slightly bowing to Leon.
Today, most allied soldiers who fought in the Undead War still habitually address Baron Leon as Marshal, though officially, since the meeting post Battle of Rolandena held in Fenlidun City, the alliance organization formally renamed as the “Holy War Alliance” has yet to disband.
After saluting, Sir Fanlang replied: “Her Highness Ines went with the high priest to visit the Holy Artifact Room, the Princess was very curious about the Holy Lake Water we brought from our homeland after hearing the priest’s Holy Lake lectures.”
Figuring out the whereabouts of the little princess, Leon thanked him and walked toward the inner hall behind the altar.
Technically, entry into the Holy Artifact Room requires priest approval, but Leon could freely access any area within the Holy Hall.
This is not due to his position as the local lord, but because…
to the Holy Lake Knights, he himself is akin to a walking “Holy Artifact.”
