Chapter 592 - 592 279 Night of the Blood Moon

592: Chapter 279: Night of the Blood Moon 592: Chapter 279: Night of the Blood Moon The silhouette of Kilmerton Fortress shrouded in the night, loomed like a giant beast lurking in the darkness.

The garrison bore solemn expressions, every nerve tightly wound, on high alert against unknown threats.

The sudden defeat to the south had left the soldiers wary of repeating the mistake.

Countless torches and fire pits illuminated every corner like daylight.

Teams of soldiers traversed steadily between the walls, passages, and tower bridges.

A tense atmosphere permeated the night, but the sight of comrades everywhere gradually dispelled the innate fear in the hearts of these social creatures.

A secluded turn of the fortress corridor…

Shadows flickered eerily as if alive.

A biting cold wind slipped through the small windows of the outer wall, silently creeping into the corridor like a ghost.

The nearest wall lamp’s candle flame was snuffed out with a “puff” by the biting winter breeze.

A small patch of darkness covered the area.

The gaze of several West Bay County guards turned toward the suddenly dim corridor where the wind had extinguished the light.

A soldier muttered a curse, complaining as he stepped into the shadow, attempting to retrieve the extinguished candlelight and rekindle it at another wall lamp.

Squinting in the dimness, he lifted the candlestick from the wall lamp niche, only to notice the light behind him suddenly dimming.

Almost simultaneously, the wall lamps on the opposite corridor extinguished one by one, with darkness surging like waves, crashing in.

The guard felt the hairs on his body stand erect, his instincts sending a jolt of fear from his feet to his heart.

Frightened, he dropped the candle, reaching for the sword at his waist, intent on shouting a coarse warning.

But, to his horror, he found himself unable to utter a sound.

It was as if something cold squeezed his mouth and nose tightly; before he could even regret not putting on his face mask, his head was wrenched one hundred eighty degrees backward by an overwhelming force…

In an instant, the entire corridor plunged into a deadly silence.

The darkness continued to creep silently deeper into the passage, soon a door which should have been locked tightly opened slowly without a sound.

Candlelight flickered in the room.

In a fragrant bedroom full of shadows, a girl with cascade-like golden hair lay quietly on a hard bed, her eyebrows slightly furrowed, seemingly trapped in a nightmare.

The flickering candlelight cast a glow on the smooth surface of the armor on the table, strangely failing to reflect the slowly approaching shadow.

Invisible coldness finally reached toward the petite sleeping figure.

Just as danger approached the girl, a crisp humming sound abruptly rang out!

Cold light slashed through like lightning, the sword’s wind fierce, almost extinguishing the candles in the room.

The indistinct, agile figure reacted swiftly, leaping away alongside the sword, evading the ferocious horizontal slash.

The blurred shadow leaped to the ceiling as if weightless, somersaulting with a strike of sharp claws, ferociously grasping at the female knight filled with murderous intent.

A screech, sharp like metal scraping, echoed in the room, sparks flew as claws collided with the longsword.

Agatha shouted furiously, with battle-hardened experience and sharp instincts, she parried the shadowy enemy’s counterattack with her sword.

As the blades collided with the swift “assassin,” they deftly slipped through the enemy’s fingers at a precise angle.

The steel blade pierced the flesh, as the invisible killer attempted to seize the female knight’s sword edge with his fingers.

However, Agatha, with strength and skill far exceeding the enemy’s imagination, swung her sword irresistibly.

A flash of light whirled by, and in an instant, cold blood spattered into the air, a mass of pale flesh, cleaved in half, flew sideways, filling the air with a heavy stench of blood.

Agatha sensed the enemy’s landing clearly, twisting her body to strike again with her sword.

An angry shriek arose, the shadow sidestepped, avoiding another continuous slash from Agatha.

It immediately fled through the door, escaping into the darkness.

A series of sudden shocks roused the sleeping Ines, who blinked her blue eyes in confusion, only to see her bedside guard swiftly turn around, hurling a longsword with all his might.

— Clang!!

The sword pierced the wall outside the corridor.

Another terrifying scream echoed, the embedded longsword trembled violently, and strands of eerie lines, like tendons and veins, extended from the dim air around the sword’s body.

In an instant, a grotesque naked figure emerged, the pale wraith attempting to pull out the blade embedded in its chest.

Agatha strode forward, her short sword leaving its sheath with speed too swift to track.

Squelch—!

The sharp short blade sliced through the wraith’s neck, and blood gushed like a fountain from the severed neck.

A beautiful yet grimacing head rolled to the ground.

The beheaded head of the wraith, slain by the female knight, did not perish, its hateful stare remaining fixed on Agatha, with its mouth of fangs and blood slowly opening, uttering a raspy and venomous whisper: “….Orland people….—betrayal…”

Ignoring the strange malice of the undead wraith, Agatha quickly snapped out of her brief stupor.

Having been accustomed to battling countless tenacious Corpse Ghosts within the Cloud Domain lately, she was used to those hard-to-kill demonic undead.

Unsure why the eerie wraith’s headless body was not vanquished despite the dispersal of the cloud over Kilmerton Pass, she knew well there was no time to unravel this puzzle now.

The female knight loudly called for guards, using her short sword to pin the wraith’s still-struggling arm to the wall before pulling out the longsword embedded in its chest.

With two swift slashes, Agatha delivered a Cross Slash, flesh and blood splattering everywhere as she cleaved the undead wraith’s headless torso into four parts.

Inside, Ines had already climbed out of bed, clad in her inner armor, deftly donning her treasure armor over it.

Drawing her elegant but barely effective light sword, Ines frowned, sheltering behind Agatha.

“Take me to sound the fortress alarm!!” the Princess commanded.

With Agatha’s protection, Ines hurried through the candle-extinguished corridors.

She tried hard not to look at the West Bay County guards fallen in the darkened corners.

Ahead, Agatha’s shouts finally alerted the patrolling warriors nearby.

Several Sea Eagle Knights led soldiers, carrying torches, joining up with Ines at the tower’s lower level corner.

The torches illuminated the tower’s entrance, and the Princess’s gaze fell upon the body of a young West Bay Noble Knight.

Clutching a bloodstained blade, his face was pierced by a sharp object, his death excruciating.

Ines felt a sharp pang in her heart, these knights loyal to her, each a precious strength, now fallen ignobly under the undead assassin’s hands in this unexpected assault.

….

Forcing herself out of her emotions, Ines continued hastening towards the nearest alarm, but before she could reach it, the fortress soldiers promptly rang alarm bells across the fortress, starting from the city walls to the fortress’s pinnacle.

In an instant, news of an enemy assault spread, causing the Kilmerton Fortress to erupt into chaos.

Numerous soldiers and knights gathered, their footfalls causing the ground to tremble, seeking and defending against the demons invading the fortress.

In no time, sounds of fierce combat erupted from numerous corners, both visible and hidden, as inevitable chaos broke out within the fortress.

But the situation did not halt; from beyond the walls came the sound of horns, signaling a large force of enemies approaching the fortress!
