Knights and Magic Wand -
Chapter 531 - 531 254 Bear Hunting
531: Chapter 254: Bear Hunting 531: Chapter 254: Bear Hunting Convincing the rangers to let him lure the Horror Mountain Bear, the knights of valor quickly transformed as planned into a team of shoveling workers, swinging shovels to dig a deep trench in the forest outside the cave.
Each knight was like a human-shaped excavator.
A pit large enough to entrap the Horror Mountain Bear, a creature even bigger than African elephants from Leon’s memories of his previous life, would have required dozens of ordinary people working together to dig.
Yet it took only mere tens of minutes for the knights to complete it.
Olivia, who had gone to a farther distance to chop logs away from the commotion, carried sharpened wooden stakes back, delivering them to the pit, where the group arranged them into a spiked trap.
These spikes likely wouldn’t do much harm to the thick-skinned and muscular giant beast, but they were better than nothing.
Supported by a few wooden beams, covered with cloth and concealed with a thin layer of dirt for camouflage, the knights finished everything and, covered in dust, took a moment to catch their breath.
Leon patted the dust off himself and glanced at everyone, lamenting internally that if the world were at peace, the knights of valor, unengaged in combat, might all excel as construction workers.
As they cleared away the trees blocking the cave entrance, Glenn Soren retrieved a powder from his pouch and sprinkled it over everyone, claiming it would mask their scent.
Leon waited for the rangers to finalize all preparations and reach their respective ambush spots before stepping forward, walking alone into the cave.
Olivia knew what he planned to do and wasn’t overly worried, understanding he wouldn’t venture too deep, so she didn’t follow him out of concern.
Leon lit a torch and used its light to move several steps deeper into the cave until he reached a bend in the rocks, where he swiftly darted to hide.
Pulling out a Heroic Spirit Card from his pocket, he infused it with magic power.
The Nedy Card transformed into particles of light and conjured the body of the Wolf Family Young Master.
Just as he appeared, Canis momentarily felt a familiar blackout.
Reacting instantly, he reflexively dropped into a defensive stance, raising his kite shield and scanning his surroundings for possible incoming attacks.
“Hey~ relax, this time you don’t need to take hits, nor do you need to fight.”
Leon reassured the Wolf Family Young Master to loosen up.
“Then why did you summon me?”
Canis, after confirming no enemies were around, lowered his shield and shot Leon a skeptical look.
The environment was obviously not Avalon Castle, nor was this a casual outing.
“Don’t give me that look.
This time it’s not just helping me; it’s solving a big problem for your Gunnar Family too.”
Pointing to the pitch-black tunnel extending underground ahead, Leon explained, “This is Leding Castle, your Wolf Family’s territory.
Deep in this cave, a bear monster is wreaking havoc.
You need to go down there, provoke it, and lure it out.
Leave the rest to me.”
“That’s it?”
“Exactly.
Now hurry up and get going; don’t waste my magic power.”
Leon handed the torch over to him.
Canis raised the torch to illuminate his surroundings and then looked toward the dark cave ahead.
Without further delay, he drew his long sword and ventured deeper in.
As a fierce Knight of Valor, he naturally didn’t fear the dark.
Compared to the horrors of the Netherworld after death, a real cave, no matter how dark, was nothing more than a cozy backyard.
Leon twisted open the Earth Vein Spirit Lamp on his waist for lighting and patiently waited while watching Canis’s figure disappear deeper into the cave.
Looking around at the surrounding rocky walls, he pondered idly.
He wasn’t knowledgeable about such matters and couldn’t determine if the cave was naturally formed.
As he waited, about ten minutes passed when he finally heard an echo from the depths of darkness.
——ROAR!!
It was the first time in nine months he had heard the terrifying roar of the giant bear again.
The entire cave suddenly trembled slightly, while the earth beneath his feet quaked more intensely with every passing moment.
Accompanied by the thundering footsteps of the massive creature running closer, Leon caught sight of the Wolf Family Young Master sprinting at full speed while holding the torch.
Canis, his face full of panic, seemed to have even transformed his armor into a spiritual body to increase his speed, leaving only his close-fitted underlayer as he fled in large strides.
“What the hell kind of bear monster is this?!
If it’s this huge, you should’ve told me earlier!!!”
Canis furiously yelled in frustration.
Leon raised an eyebrow, realizing he had forgotten that the Wolf Family members, with their average education, wouldn’t know anything about the Horror Mountain Bear.
——!!
The horrifying roars continued.
A giant bear, gradually emerging from the darkness, roared as it rapidly charged toward the Wolf Family Young Master with surprising speed for a creature that massive.
BOOM!!
The colossal beast stomped and lunged.
Leon reacted swiftly, canceling Canis’s summoned incarnation.
The Nedy Card transformed into a stream of light and flew swiftly back into his hand.
The Horror Mountain Bear’s gaping maw surged forth with a nauseating stench, snapping midair ferociously.
Its fearsome fangs clashed, echoing as if splitting the air itself.
Biting nothing but air, the giant bear raised its bloodthirsty eyes, glaring with malicious intent at the luminous intruder just a short distance away, and continued its relentless pursuit.
Thinking to himself how long it had been since their last encounter, Leon turned tail and sprinted at a speed rivaling Canis, fleeing toward the cave exit.
Facing a beast larger by far than a griffin, engaging it solo in the confined cave was, without a doubt, a death wish.
With his foot striking solid ground, Leon dashed out of the cave like the wind, gracefully leaping over the trap and skidding to a halt, plowing a deep furrow into the mud as he did.
He spun around abruptly, drawing another Nedy Card and clutching it between his fingers.
He activated the magic card.
The Boiling Heart materialized as a mist of light, spreading forth from his hand.
An instant surge of magic power amplified everyone except Olivia.
In their hidden spots, Derek’s necklace shivered in resonance with extraordinary magic, trembling as though it were alive.
Though mentally prepared for the plan, the Wolf Hunter Knight was still taken aback by the sudden surge of power rising within him.
He hadn’t felt such a dramatic boost in strength for many years.
Unaware of the emotions surrounding everyone, Leon didn’t draw his sword.
He merely focused his gaze on the giant bear charging out of the cave.
Unexpectedly, the Horror Mountain Bear slowed its thunderous steps to a halt.
Its massive form lingered in the darkness of the cave, halting its pursuit.
Its wrathful gaze swept across its surroundings and the intruders outside, displaying caution even in its rage.
Leon frowned, sensing trouble.
Quickly, he feigned an act of fleeing in panic, turning his back and running toward the forest, though slowing down slightly.
Luckily, this display of weakness rekindled the bear’s primal instinct and its ferocious protectiveness over its cubs.
The giant beast roared, charging out of the cave again, continuing its hunt for the “ant” threatening it.
BANG!!
A thunderous crash.
Hearing the sound of the bear falling into the pit behind him, Leon knew the first phase of the hunt was successful.
The shuffle of footsteps followed as armored figures rustled through the forest undergrowth.
Knights wielding an array of weapons emerged from their hidden positions.
Leon turned, no longer escaping, raising his right arm to summon the dormant thunder overhead.
Garner!
——BOOM!
A searing lightning bolt pierced the sky.
The radiant electric flash struck down.
The magical spear, plummeting with force from hundreds of meters above, slammed directly into the colossal bear within the pit, toppling the spiked posts beneath its great weight.
The spear drove through the beast’s armored hide, embedding its blade into the giant bear’s back.
Crackling arcs of magical energy coursed like a tide through its spine.
In agonizing pain, the mother bear unleashed a chilling howl.
The thunderous sound waves startled flocks of fearful birds throughout the forest.
This trap, intended only to temporarily hinder the bear, now served as a decisive strike, leaving the immobile creature no escape.
The falling lightning inflicted grievous wounds, pinning it against the pit wall, where it roared ceaselessly.
Its survival instincts drove the Horror Mountain Bear to rake the surrounding dirt in frenzied desperation, attempting to claw its way free from the pit.
Booming sounds erupted as its enormous strength carved out a path leading back to level ground.
But by now, nine fierce Knights of Valor had surrounded the bear at close range, their weapons plunging into the beast from all directions as it climbed halfway up.
With a resounding yell, Glenn Soren swung his battle axe, delivering a deep strike to its claws, severing sinew and bone.
Derek leaped forward, driving his spear into the bear’s left eye.
——Its eyes, nostrils, underarms, claw joints…
even the vulnerable areas at the rear of the beast were mercilessly pierced by a ranger wielding a spear, unbothered by notions of honor or glory.
Rangers were indeed knights, but they cared little for decorum in combat methods.
The agonized bear let loose an earth-shaking wail of pain.
In a final desperate push, it managed to halfway raise its body.
Its snapping jaws struck wildly around it, briefly forcing the rangers ahead to retreat.
From the rear of the hunting party.
On the cave’s rocky facade, Olivia, clinging vertically using a dagger wedged into the crevices, stomped against the wall and launched herself downward like a meteor onto the bear’s back.
The girl did not draw her sword but instead reached to grasp the spear embedded in the Horror Mountain Bear’s flesh.
As soon as Leon saw Olivia’s move, he tacitly understood and refrained from recalling the weapon, allowing Olivia to grip the thunderous spear.
The lightning emanating from Garner was harmless to the Flame Sun Guard’s bloodline and was extinguished swiftly by Olivia’s Forbidden Magic Field.
Her plunging force drove the spear deeper into the creature’s lungs and chest.
The mother bear, halfway upright, toppled once again under the weight of the girl knight, crashing onto the slope of the pit.
Its agonized roars turned to mournful cries.
As the massive bear lifted its head in suffering, Derek’s spear showered blood, robbing the beast of its remaining eye.
Leon unsheathed his long sword, the searing Molten Flame Blade whirling with waves of heat as he lunged forward, its fiery arc slicing through the air.
——HOOOSH!
Heat rippled as the Molten Flame Blade severed the Horror Mountain Bear’s throat.
A single blow ended its life, the burnt wound cauterizing any blood from spilling and extinguishing its final hope of survival, silencing it forever.
Turning the blade upward on the downstroke, Leon plunged the long sword—imbued with magical flames—through its throat and into its skull, delivering an end to its agony.
Feeling the beast beneath her cease fighting, Olivia drew the blood-drenched magic spear from its body, leaping backward and landing gracefully against the rim of the pit.
The once-reigning king of the forest now lay powerless, tumbling back into the pit.
Its colossal corpse, riddled with wounds, quickly pooled a river of blood within.
A flawless hunt indeed.
With the seamless cooperation of eleven mighty knights, not one person had been injured.
The rangers gathered around, yet there were no cheers, no exhilaration—everything felt matter-of-fact.
But still…
Olivia looked into the pit, where the fearsome man-eating beast her lover had slain lay motionless.
Her emerald-green eyes unconsciously turned toward the cave entrance behind her.
The cries of fear and desperate yearning reverberated from deep inside…
Carried by the wind and echoed by the rock walls…
Olivia heard them.
At this moment, in the depths of the cave…
The three cubs calling out for their mother…
