Chapter 464 - 464 217 Journey South to Meet

464: Chapter 217: Journey South to Meet 464: Chapter 217: Journey South to Meet “What is a ‘Chivalry Oath’?” Leon asked curiously.

“We have to start with the origin of the Ranger Knights,” Larian thought for a moment and then explained to Leon.

Listening patiently to the other party’s narrative, Leon was somewhat surprised but also felt it made sense.

“Ranger Knights” originated from a time when ancestors of the Felu people left their mountain Kingdom in large numbers to pioneer the remote regions of the Western Continent.

At that time, even the title of “Knight,” which conveyed honor and the connotations of military nobility, had not yet appeared in the culture of the Felu people.

The numerous riders who led the mountain people of Felu through thorny paths and established pioneering lands under the ruler of the early Felu people are the predecessors of the current Felu “Knight” title.

But the ancient Felu Knights, despite facing the primitive dangers and demons pervasive in the Barbaric Lands and protecting their lands and people, usually only operated within their own limited ruling areas.

The opposition of the Felu territories and the mutual hostility among different races and ethnic groups led to many newly established human lands lacking warriors, still being heavily threatened and harassed by various dangers.

However, it was not known which idealistic warrior stood up, beginning to wander from one settlement to another, mainly hunting demons to combat evil, risking danger to earn mercenary fees, yet not getting involved in political strife.

Soon, as time went by, some inspired warriors followed suit, and the very first batch of people known as “Rangers” were born.

It was not until the concept of Knight appeared that these roaming adventurers on horseback were honored with the title of “Ranger Knights” by the world.

Ranger Knights traveled throughout the Continent, slaying demons and removing evil, but they usually operated alone.

It wasn’t an inherent requirement of the Ranger’s identity that they do so.

It’s just that, once multiple Rangers formed groups, perhaps initially they could maintain the original intention of chivalry, but over time, they would inevitably evolve into armed forces with actual demands due to various reasons and realities…

thus becoming organizations similar to “Mercenaries” or “Knight Orders,” and gradually losing the original way of action of the Rangers and no longer being seen by people as “Ranger Knights.”

Over time, this led to the traditional impression that Ranger Knights were loners.

This impression and experience, over hundreds of years, in turn gradually became a belief that influenced the lone-walking philosophy of the Rangers.

They gathered seldomly and dispersed frequently; even when occasionally traveling together, they would each go their separate ways after defeating a certain target, continuing to pursue their own path of chivalry, to avoid losing their ancient beliefs due to the complexity of human nature.

But solitary struggles eventually have their limitations, and the so-called “Chivalry Oath,” according to ancient texts, was a rallying call established by the ancient Rangers when faced with great evils that a few Knights alone could not withstand, meant to unite them temporarily in collaborative effort against a formidable enemy.

Regrettably, due to various realistic reasons, the number of Ranger Knights has declined over hundreds of years.

Ranger Knights as traditional as Larian are already few in number, and without forming groups, in the reality of emerging Kingdoms, the strengthening Lord’s Armies, and the gradual disappearance of demons across the Continent, many Ranger Families have for various reasons set aside the beliefs of their ancestors and have begun to swear fealty to the Lords of their Kingdoms, becoming ordinary Knight Families.

Whether today’s “Chivalry Oath” can summon a few Rangers who remember and follow their ancestors’ oath, is really a question mark.

“I cannot guarantee how many Ranger Knights I can summon, but at least, my few Ranger friends in Dinexion will certainly come to confront the terrible calamity you speak of,” Larian assured of his friends’ chivalry spirit.

“That’s enough, even if only one Knight can come, it’s a great help to us,” Leon didn’t expect too much, as having additional strength right now is good.

Watching Larian leave the room to prepare for a long journey back to his residence, Leon quickly summoned Kovis to inform him of the task to accompany Larian on a journey across the Continent.

Thinking of the Stormhawk with the physique of the previous world’s Charma, Leon asked worriedly, “Will that Stormhawk have the stamina to support you two on a long journey?”

“Please rest assured, without carrying other heavy objects, Xiao An can carry two adult males flying, and I can also set off with Larian in lightweight leather armor,” Kovis answered.

“Alright, please be sure to stay safe,” Leon thought for a moment and then admonished, “Remember to take 300 gold crowns before you set off, just in case you need money, and also, I will prepare documents to prove your identities, which at least should work within the territory of Orland.”

Kovis did not refuse, but he reminded his Lord before turning to discuss the itinerary with Knight Larian, “My Lord, the two new suits of Armor ordered from the Dwarf Guild have been completed.

Master Adya, having heard of your return, has just sent them over, and they are currently in the Great Hall.

Should we store them in the warehouse or wait for you and Olivia to try them on?”

“Just leave them there, I’ll go down and have a look right away,” Leon nodded upon hearing the news.

After Kovis left, he quickly completed the documents at hand and immediately went down to the Lord Hall.

There, he saw the two custom-fitted suits of Knight Armor, protected by the Guards, and the servants had already brought the linings and tunics that matched the Armor.

The suit on the left was his, rendered in a profound and deep black, paired with a gray-lined, embroidered battle tunic and his beloved Red Feathered Wing Helmet.

The black Armor was not overly decorated, but the golden bronze Griffin relief on the right shoulder and knee pads, the red Sword Wing Badge relief on the left shoulder and chest, and the scarlet cloak meant this heavy-styled Knight Armor crafted by Dwarf artisans still exuded dignity and magnificence.
