Chapter 448 - 448 209 Anger_2
448: Chapter 209 Anger_2 448: Chapter 209 Anger_2 Looking down, he noticed the warhorse was startled and dared not approach the griffin lying beneath the outer wall.
He had no choice but to call for soldiers to help him dismount and walk.
“Please wait a moment, I will take you to rest immediately,” Yevan said to the Griffin Knight sitting on the giant beast, then called out to the Guard to open the gate in front of the portcullis.
Unfortunately, after yelling for a long time, there was no response from inside the courtyard.
“Perhaps…
I should go inside and open the door.”
Seeing his awkward expression, Leon patted Death Claw and soared into the courtyard of the Tower Castle.
After jumping down from the saddle with Olivia, Leon kicked open the small door by the gate in the wall, went inside, and operated the pulley to lift the portcullis for those outside.
Securing the switch, Leon let Death Claw wait on the open ground and followed Yevan, who had entered to lead the way, continuing towards the tower.
“I wish to rest in the top room of your place, and my griffin can stay on the tower roof.
Also, my companion and I need hot water for bathing…” Leon outlined his requests one by one.
“No problem, sir.
I’ll arrange for the servants to prepare it as soon as possible.
Do you need someone to help clean your armor?” Yevan replied gladly.
“That would be appreciated,” Leon nodded.
Before they could approach the tower, Olivia’s nostrils flared slightly as she detected a scent and frowned.
When the group reached the half-open tower door, they all caught the smell of blood wafting to their noses, just like Olivia.
A sudden look of shock crossed Yevan’s face as he threw off the guards’ assistance and quickly went to push open the main door.
What met their eyes were scattered remains covering the entrance hall floor.
Seeing such a bloody scene in his own home, Yevan instinctively panicked.
But upon closer inspection, he found that the bodies torn apart by Corpse Demons did not include any of his family, only town civilians in civilian clothes.
“Father!
Are you there?!” Yevan immediately shouted loudly into the dark fortress, drawing his weapon just in case and quickening his pace with the others.
Stepping over the bloodshed caused by Undead Monsters, Olivia and Leon followed warily behind.
Entering the dark Lord Hall thickened the stench of blood.
In the faint light cast by the stone wall window, the great hall seemed to have been ransacked into chaos.
Leon raised his hand, using a bit of magic power to ignite a nearby candle stand that hadn’t collapsed yet, illuminating the messy corpses on the floor.
There seemed to be civilians, the lord’s servants dressed, and even two corpses of Winged Corpse Demons.
Yevan surveyed the hall, his heart filled with doubt.
Could it be that his father had fled?
Was it actually these refugees who entered over the walls and closed the portcullis?
After all, along the way, he had not seen a single body of the Lord’s Guard, and with only a few Corpse Demons invading the fortress, the guards, no matter how incompetent, would not possibly let them rampage like this.
But those servants who had served the family for years…
Why hadn’t his father taken them along when he fled?
Rushing through the hall, they pushed open each door, searching for any possible survivors and lurking dangers.
Until they climbed to the upper levels and saw a door panel that was lavish, seemingly belonging to the lord’s room.
Olivia listened closely and heard tense breathing inside, using simple Urian words to remind Yevan, “…Inside, there are four people.”
Yevan turned his head skeptically.
But recalling the prowess of this girl, who was as mighty as a “Valkyrie” on the city wall, he believed she wouldn’t speak idly.
He stepped forward and knocked on the bedroom door with his hand, shouting loudly, “Open the door!
I am the Baron’s son, Knight Yevan.
It’s safe outside now.
Come out quickly.
Are you servants or townspeople hiding in there?
I pardon your trespass in the Lord Mansion!”
Yevan’s continuous knocking seemed to disturb those hiding.
After some time, just as he was growing impatient with the intruders and was about to have the soldiers break down the door.
A familiar sobbing voice came from behind the door.
“…Yevan!
Is that you?
Is it really you?
I’m…
I’m so scared.”
The young knight was stunned; he had never expected to hear his wife’s voice at this moment.
But soon, he heard his mother’s fragile voice beyond the door panel, “….Yevan?”
This was followed by a trembling, young voice, “Father…
Mother and Grandmother are very scared.
They fear…
they fear you might be a monster in disguise, like in the legends!”
His family had been in the city all along!?
Yevan took a deep breath, thinking back to the grim sight of corpses he had just seen, a profound sense of relief and fear swept over him.
“It really is me!
Mother, Nina, open the door.
Those Corpse Ghosts have been driven back.
You can look out the window; we’ve been saved!” the knight clarified loudly.
After another moment, the sound of furniture being moved came, and those inside seemed to confirm safety through the window, followed by the sound of furniture and the bed being moved away from the door.
The doorknob turned, and a young woman peeked out.
Seeing her husband’s face, she immediately burst into tears of joy.
Yevan pushed the door open and was embraced by his crying wife; he glanced around the room.
Aside from his wife, who was terrified, his mother and his child, even his father’s mistress was there, hugging her legs and cowering in the corner, frightened and bewildered.
He didn’t pay much attention to the woman; just relieved that his close family was all unscathed, he was stunned by his mother’s question.
“Yevan, by the gods, I’m so glad you’re alright.
Where is your father?
Is he okay?”
The young man suddenly felt a fiery anger rising within him, seized by profound rage.
…
…
The following day.
In the top room of the Tower Castle in Shatai City, Leon awoke from sleep, finally alleviating some of the fatigue caused by magic power depletion.
The efficiency of restoring the magic element within one’s body through eating, drinking, natural rest, and meditation is not high.
If not overexerting oneself on magic elements, it would take him at least five or six days to fully recover from the normal magic power depletion.
Besides this, the only way to quickly replenish magic now would be to find Kovis for a temporary magic boost.
But unfortunately, his Guard Knight was still in Avalon trying to tame the Stormhawk and hadn’t accompanied him on this trip.
Glancing at the dim room, Leon turned his head to Olivia, who was leaning on a sword and sitting by the bedside, taking turns guarding their rest.
“How long did I sleep?”
“Not long, it’s just dawn.
Are you hungry?
Should I go find something for you to eat?” Olivia asked, lowering her head.
“Dawn?” Leon was startled.
“Yes, those overcast clouds have dissipated,” the young woman nodded.
Upon hearing this, Leon immediately got up and walked to the window, pushing open the shutters.
The summer sunlight streamed in, and looking out at the sky, the dark clouds that had overshadowed the land had indeed disappeared from this area.
“Leon, should we continue heading east?
It seems those Corpse Ghosts came from the east, maybe they have something to do with where we’re going, to Rolannar?” Olivia asked, a little worried, as she approached Leon.
“…Don’t worry about it, I’ll ask Lola later.
If it’s too dangerous, she wouldn’t insist on us moving forward,” Leon said, comforting the girl: “Let’s first find some locals to investigate what’s going on here.”
