Knights and Magic Wand
Chapter 418 - 418 197 Revisiting Old Haunts_3

418: Chapter 197 Revisiting Old Haunts_3 418: Chapter 197 Revisiting Old Haunts_3 Without further agitating the defending troops ahead, Leon had already identified the banners of the Sea Eagle Knights while circling high in the sky, knowing that even if this wasn’t the destination, he could still find out about Ines’s whereabouts.

However, he still turned back and had Kovis prepare the Barrier Magic, just in case.

Comforting the restless Death Claw not to worry about ordinary ballistae, which were far less dangerous than the Athias Empire’s Siege Crossbows, Leon had the big fellow beneath him approach the town on foot.

Watching the terrifying black-armored giant beast, advancing with its ferocious claws toward the city gate and its heavy body making the ground rumble thunderously, the West Bay Soldiers on the walls swallowed nervously with fear.

Even without mentioning that the terror clad in armor could take to the skies, given the low height of the town walls, its massive body, akin to a lion-tiger hybrid, seemed capable of leaping onto the ramparts in a single bound and massacring the soldiers.

But when the soldiers saw a knight in plate armor riding on the back of the monster, they all breathed a sigh of relief.

Compared to unchecked wild beasts, giant creatures guided by one of their own kind were always more reassuring.

Moreover, since it had voluntarily landed, not directly traversing what would have been, for it, meaningless walls, it at least indicated that it wasn’t an enemy.

The West Bay Knight gripped his spear tightly, noticed the Sword Wing Badge engraving on the Griffin Armor, and calmed down.

He leaned out and called to the knight sitting on the griffin’s back: “Is it Lord Pendragon from Avalon?”

“It is indeed I,” Leon responded back to the city wall.

After exchanging names and confirming each other’s identities, the blue-robed knight on the wall did not dare to delay the important matters of the Highness and hurriedly, out of habit, ordered the Soldiers to raise the heavy gate, but Leon quickly gestured to stop them.

“No need to open the gates, I’ll just go in,” he said.

Although the Death Claw could fold its wings and lower its head to squeeze through the town gate if needed.

Doing so would be too demeaning, like squeezing through a dog-hole, for a grown Griffin.

He patted the Death Claw beneath him, and the Griffin immediately spread its wings and took a mighty leap, stirring a Gale.

It soared into the air amidst the curious and awe-struck exclamations of the soldiers on the walls.

“….

My dear mother, gods above….”

Under the sweeping giant shadow, the old soldier on the wall instinctively shrank his neck in fear.

Having heard the thunderous landing behind him, he turned back to look again, his gaze filled with a bit of fear and some relief…

Thankfully, it was not an enemy of Princess Ines, but one of their own knights.

The old soldier had also climbed out of piles of corpses, he wore armor and brandished weapons, ready to confront tigers and leopards without a trace of fear.

But standing in front of that armored giant, he still felt a genuine weakness in his knees, and even with his comrades standing beside him, he couldn’t find a shred of safety.

The West Bay Knight stationed on the wall strode down the stairs, intending to mount his Warhorse, but seeing his mount tied to a post, frantically neighing and stamping in terror, he gave up the idea and instead hastened to the front of the Griffin on foot.

“Lord Pendragon, Princess Ines has been waiting in the military camp for a long time,” the knight said, placing a hand over his chest.

Noticing that the other party could not ride a horse, Leon untied the straps, dismounted the high saddle with Kovis, patted the Griffin to follow, and approached the knight: “Please lead the way.”

“Uh, alright.” The young West Bay Knight was momentarily stunned, touched by the gesture.

He didn’t feel that it was beneath his dignity to lead a Baron on foot, but still appreciated the respect shown to him and bowed again: “…please follow me.”

With the eye-catching Armored War Beast following behind, Leon ignored the surprised looks of the soldiers and residents by the roadside as he hurriedly followed the leading knight to the location of the military camp.

He raised his eyebrows to find that Princess Ines, clad in Armor, had arrived at the camp’s outskirts early, standing with one hand on her sword and the other on her hip, her small stature cut an impressive figure standing in front of a group of tall knights.

“You’ve arrived really fast, Lord Leon, my messenger only rushed back yesterday…” Ines playfully winked at him.

Even though she had never doubted the authenticity of his Griffin companion.

But seeing the knight truly riding the massive beast in person, a strong desire couldn’t help but arise in her heart.

Squinting, Ines felt a bit envious of the good fortune of the Thorny Flower Earl.

“I am honored to heed Your Highness’s summons and have journeyed here as swiftly as I could.”

Feeling privileged to be received so formally, Leon was about to kneel in courtesy, but was stopped by Ines, who reached out to grasp his Arm Armor.

“There’s no need for such formality when clad in armor, I am neither my father nor my Brother; besides, it was me who requested your assistance.” Ines smiled, lifting her green eyes to appraise the majestic Armored Beast behind him, her eyes suddenly sparkling with genuine adoration.

“Well then…excuse me.” Relieved by her words, Leon stood up straight, substituting with a slight bow.

“Truly a noble creature, rivaling Dragons in stature, and not lacking in speed.

I just wonder, compared to Earl Nos’s companion, which one is more intelligent.

Perhaps next time we can arrange a meeting, and see how they fare at chess?” Ines mused, glancing sideways.

Leon helplessly replied: “That would be difficult, my friend used to live freely in the mountains and wilds, and I’m afraid it doesn’t understand chess.”

As he spoke, he still prudently reached out with his mind to confirm with the Griffin companion at his back.

The seated Death Claw, shaking its wings and looking back to groom its feathers with its large beak, perked up when Leon questioned it.

…..What is chess?

Is it food?

Feeling the untainted purity of a mind uncorrupted by knowledge, Leon fell silent, deciding not to trouble his simple-minded Big Fat Bird further.

“That’s truly a pity…..

Well then, come in and have a rest first, and I’ll explain the troubles we’re facing in detail,” Ines said with a shake of her head, turning to invite him into the camp.
