Knights and Magic Wand -
Chapter 397 - 397 190 Dwarves Return Home
397: Chapter 190 Dwarves Return Home 397: Chapter 190 Dwarves Return Home Weighing this magic wand….
Or should I say, magic gun?
Leon glanced at Lola’s small hand.
Just now, she was effortlessly spinning it with just a few fingers, like twirling a pen, and he thought it wasn’t very heavy.
But upon taking hold, he found it much heavier than the all-steel cavalry spear he used before.
The weight of Garner was at least three times heavier than it visually appeared, and if it weren’t for his strength being beyond what it was, he wouldn’t be able to wield this magic wand with ease.
However, to lift it effortlessly like Lola just now would require Olivia’s strength.
“…
The magic storage mechanism of the wand is in that Flame Sun Disc.
The identification technique is not yet encrypted, so you can set your own spell password and rune encipher to avoid other spellcasters from tampering.
It has three empty slots for magic techniques, allowing you to preset the magic you wish to use…
Besides that, I have added a small amount of Moonfall Silver, giving the wand the ability to transform from a physical state to an atmospheric elemental state.
Like just now, when not in use, you can let it accompany you in the sky, and when needed, summon it down in the form of lightning.
Whether it falls in front of you or on the enemy’s head depends on your will.
But remember, transformation should not occur too frequently, preferably not more than once a day and night, as limited materials can only achieve so much.
Excessive back-and-forth reshaping to the physical form will not only consume a large amount of your mana but also exceed what the wand’s material strength can bear…”
Lola patiently explained the usage efficiency of this magic wand.
Leon took it to heart, equating it to an attack of Thunder Strike once a day, a bolt of lightning slashing down from the sky, combined with the physical blow of its weight; from either a power or attack angle, it was quite formidable.
“By the way, what if I encounter an indoor fight?
Will I have to summon it in advance to carry with me?” Leon suddenly thought of a point.
If it’s an ordinary house, crashing through the roof with a thunderous strike wouldn’t be a problem.
But if inside a castle or similar to the previous underground mine, the wand’s power isn’t enough to penetrate layers of stone and earth strata.
“Rest assured, portability is a standard feature of every qualified magic wand.
If you wish to carry it with you, simply recall its elemental state back beside you.
When necessary, it can also be summoned from your side, and of course, directly throwing it to attack an enemy is also an option you can try.” Lola explained.
Throwing a lightning-like magic wand out?
Just imaging a scene akin to cosplaying Zeus made Leon eager to try.
However, since Lola had demonstrated it once by summoning from the storm’s form today, he didn’t want to damage the wand’s “durability limit” and could only wait until tomorrow to play.
Holding Garner, he closed his eyes, concentrated his mind, and probed into the wand, sensing the magic technique and demon runes inside.
Considering confidentiality, he chose to use Standard Mandarin and Chinese characters from his hometown to input the spell and rune encryption system of the wand.
Then, linking his magic power to the Flame Sun Disc of Garner, sensing the empty slots for techniques, Leon embedded the foundation attack magics he currently knew, “Molten Flame Sword” and “Wind Hammer,” by constructing the techniques inside.
Confirming no mistakes, he reopened his eyes and felt the connection between the wand and his own mana.
Leon suddenly truly realized how greatly this device could assist spellcasters.
The process of chanting a spell to construct a Dharma Seal, which originally needed to be done in advance, he could now seamlessly activate the two preset spells by merely gripping the wand.
And it’s not just a one-time use.
As long as the wand and his body’s mana suffices, he could start the techniques continuously and rapidly as many times as needed.
Of course, how many formed techniques can be simultaneously sustained depends on the spellcaster’s own ability and skill.
Fiddling with his own belonging that he couldn’t put down, Leon suddenly found joy in his heart.
He remembered the comical look of the pursuers after teaming up with Kovis to destroy Mage Athias’s magic wand.
The guy was to blame for using a wooden magic wand.
Leon guessed that the person probably sought out specific magical wood properties for improved magic performance.
But, accustomed to comfort, Mage Athias inevitably overlooked the ever-changing battles, leading to an unexpected consequence someday.
If like his mentor Pilireno, using a metal magic wand, the outcome of that day might have been entirely different…..
Leon raised Garner, intending a thought, activating the transmutation technique.
The magnificent silver magic gun immediately shimmered with blue lightning in his hand, and after just a flicker, it disappeared.
Of course, it didn’t actually vanish, but transformed into an elemental state, swirling around his forearm, like a ring of invisible magnetic field.
Leon looked up into the sky, where the thunderclouds gathered by Lola had dissipated, revealing a gloomy sky.
He manipulated the Garner coiled around his arm, raising it to let the elementalized magic wand ascend to the sky.
Under the magic perception, it seemed like a void of lightning, instantly darting to the sky overhead.
Although nothing could be seen by the naked eye, Leon could sense the lightning roaming high above.
Seemingly remembering something, he touched the pouch containing three Netti cards.
The Heroic Spirit of the warrior and Garner…
he was increasingly becoming like a certain one-eyed old man.
…
…
The day after acquiring the wand, before he had the chance to test its power outside the castle, Leon met with a few leaders among the dwarf mining team.
After a night’s rest and half a day getting familiar with the situation, besides the mining team’s guard captain “Hem,” a dwarf miner and one suspected high-skilled dwarf technician participated in the meeting.
After a brief understanding of each other’s identities, Leon began the main discussion.
“I am not one to snatch by force, but I must state upfront, the contract you signed with King Gervin a thousand years ago has long lost its validity.
In the current era, since the mine is within my territory, by kingdom law, it belongs to me, do any of you have objections?” Leon openly asked.
He noticed the three bearded dwarves, whose true gender was uncertain, exchanged glances, ultimately leaving Hem to reluctantly respond:
“Lord, the mine owner who led us long died during a riot.
Regardless of a thousand years ago or after, we were merely hired by the guild to work underground.
You can take the mine however you wish, just don’t take the personal property we have with us.”
Hem wasn’t unwilling to inherit the mine from the original owner, but upon entering the city yesterday, seeing the Felu civilians’ discussions and surprised looks, along with the reactions of soldiers and servants inside and outside the castle as if they had witnessed a rare creature, he had already half-believed this lord’s claim.
The surrounding environment didn’t seem like it was a setup by the local lord to tease them; these people had evidently not seen such Helarnian people for a long time.
If they indeed slept to wake in an age a thousand years later, the priority naturally was to verify the situation of their compatriots and homeland.
Not to bicker with the local ruler over a mine.
Confirming that the dwarf mining team had no objections regarding the mine’s ownership, Leon nodded: “I won’t touch any of your personal belongings, and for the mining equipment my soldiers destroyed, you may salvage whatever is useful to you.”
At this, Leon recalled the doubt when encountering those constructs’ attacks.
“Speaking of which, we discovered nesting wild goblins in the mine when exploring underground; why did your machines not attack them but attacked us instead?”
At Leon’s words, Hem scratched his beard and speculated: “Those little ‘Miners’ cannot execute too complex commands, merely becoming activated by the ‘Melter Demon’s actions, and once started, they blindly attack living beings based on the last order.”
“In the resting state, I had set those two demons with directives to eliminate Spirit Realm Demons for chamber protection.
My lord, is there a spellcaster in your troop using ‘Chaos Magic’?
The demon’s detection system may have misjudged.”
Leon then realized, spellcaster using Chaos Magic naturally referred to Kovis.
Chosen by Pilireno as a Magic Slave, Kovis had his body adjusted by various means for years under Athias, becoming a Chaos Magic affinity to carry a larger than ordinary mana reserve.
And since entering the underground, Kovis had been constantly casting spells to illuminate for everyone.
It was probably during the movements that activated the two dwarf demons.
“In the mine, there are no other defense mechanisms you’ve set, right?” Leon asked for confirmation again.
He didn’t want his future workers to encounter accidents while mining.
“Nothing else; those demons were costly, and half the boss’s wealth was spent on them back then.” Hem empathized.
“That’s good.
Now, let’s discuss your situation.” Leon believed them for the time being, reminding the dwarf remnants: “Given the current geopolitical climate, I suggest you don’t reveal that you’re from a thousand years ago.
If outsiders question, claim to be envoys from the Helarnian Kingdom to ensure your safety.”
“Why is this?” The three dwarves scratched their beards, full of confusion.
Leon trusted the intelligence Lola provided wasn’t false, but he couldn’t explicitly state the source of the information, opting to explain tactfully: “Having just awakened in this era, you don’t understand your value as ancient craftsmen.
The Helarnian people have been absent from the continent for too long, and I refrain from hastily guessing the current circumstances for your kin, but they may not be able to guarantee your safety now.
If you expose your solitary reality, in the face of a lord with malicious intent, coveting the skills and knowledge you possess, wishing to enslave you by force—what then?”
“What!
Enslave the children of Omlos!?
It’s a betrayal of the alliance oath!”
The dwarf technician clad in backpack armor widened his eyes, anger blowing his beard in the indignation: “Today Felu people dare to do such things!?
Have they no fear of invoking the wrath of Lord Illaril and the Pope Court!?”
Hearing the mention of Lola’s surname, Leon raised an eyebrow.
The revered title….
quite dignified indeed, though from the records of the Holy Sun Church in the original host’s memories, he knew the ancient Holy Prophet held a leadership status unifying all races.
But he was hard-pressed to link the constant company of Miss Mage he knew with the grand image of lord of all world races’ dearly respected leader.
…
Perhaps, if Lola donned long black hair, wore a crown, had brown-yellow skin, and a halo behind her head, her image would match closer.
“Pope Illaril….” Leon shook his head, continuing to enlighten these ancient dwarves with facts about the current continent and the fact the ancient pope had long passed for a millennium.
….
With the in-depth discussions concluded, Leon could see traces of bewilderment on the old bearded faces of the three dwarves, obscured by their hefty beards.
Their dwarf realm had vanished without a trace, and even the Pope Court in Rolannar, once ruling over all nations, had been replaced by the Holy Sun Church worshipping Illaril.
Many nations the dwarves were familiar with had all but drowned in the sands of history, and now the many kingdoms that divided the continent were mostly unheard of by these dwarf remnants.
Even the kingdom of Seryan, with over a thousand years of history, was established after the disappearance of the Pope Court, not to mention others.
These dwarves, ensnared in the pseudo-spirit realm before Lola’s passing, were utterly clueless about the current continent.
However, by the meeting’s end, Leon at least gleaned some results from their talks.
The dwarves’ desire to return home was immutable, but persuaded by Leon, they deemed it prudent to leave part of their people behind in Avalon, awaiting future safe-return notifications for even more security.
Seeing the goal smoothly achieved, Leon didn’t hesitate to extend goodwill to the dwarves.
He proactively proposed to provide some travel expenses for the returning dwarves and dispatch assistance to guide them through Orland’s territory, accompanying the group until they left the kingdom’s northern domain.
No matter how inevitable the attempt’s fruitlessness, Leon wished to establish a friendship with these remaining ancient master craftsmen.
Harmonizing their story with reality, these emissary teams visiting from the distant Dwarf Kingdom remained enigmatic to outsiders, who wouldn’t easily dare to harm them or throw sacks over their heads.
After all, although he knew the dwarves had long retreated, others on the continent weren’t aware.
The title of an envoy from a mysterious foreign race kingdom generally ought to intimidate some people.
Moreover, the rune war axes, war hammers, and molten flame guns held by these dwarves were formidable deterrents that ordinary small threats wouldn’t dare challenge unless provoked by a great lord.
Watching the three somewhat uneasy dwarf leaders descend from specially elevated cushions back to the ground, bid farewell, and exit, Leon breathed a sigh of relief.
Yet, as he reached for a cup and took a sip of cool water to moisturize his throat, he suddenly furrowed his brow, feeling an unease.
…
What was wrong?
The dwarf residues trapped due to being caught by Lady Aphrodite’s Netti Card’s Great Magic was unexpected….
Lady Aphrodite aimed to create the Great Magic to revive Miss Lora…
Wait a minute!
Leon set the cup back abruptly, realizing the inconsistency.
The times doesn’t match, does it?
Just now, that dwarf technician was astounded at Lora’s death.
This means, before they got trapped underground, Lora was still alive, presumably widely known.
The time when this forest was covered by the pseudo-spirit realm coincided with Lora being alive.
How could Lady Aphrodite think to revive a very much living Lora at the time?
Leon, with a tightly furrowed brow, scratched his head.
Could it be when the dwarves went mining, Lora was alive, but they dug for too long underground without contacting the outside world; during which Lora coincidently passed, thus the dwarf miners were unaware?
And thereafter, Lady Aphrodite created the Netti Card, hoping to resurrect Lora…
Consequently, trapping those sneaky underground miners?
That would make sense…
