Knights and Magic Wand
Chapter 385 - 385 184 Deep Exploration_3

385: Chapter 184 Deep Exploration_3 385: Chapter 184 Deep Exploration_3 There wasn’t just a rock bridge that directly led far away in front of them; in all directions illuminated by the light of the Flying Sword, there were mining tracks everywhere, intertwining rock platforms stretching across the area.

“By the Prophet above!

Is this really made by humans?”

Lokhak’s eyes widened as he looked over this massive cavity, which he could hardly believe was man-made, following Kovis’s Flying Sword.

But nature wouldn’t create precise, straight rock bridges that neatly connected each mine shaft for the sake of mine tracks.

Leon moved to the side and reached out with his Earth Vein Spirit Lamp, shining light into the pitch-dark depths below, which seemed to have no end.

Even for someone who wasn’t afraid of heights, the sight was somewhat terrifying.

He kicked a sizable rock off the edge, then leaned over to listen carefully.

…Several seconds passed before he heard the faint echo of the rock landing, reverberating upwards.

This made Leon breathe a sigh of relief.

After all, it wasn’t a terrifying bottomless abyss; there was a bottom, possibly around one or two hundred meters down.

Olivia tugged on Leon’s arm and pointed ahead, “There are footsteps from those Wild Goblins ahead.”

As if confirming her caution,

“~ Ka-rah!”

A non-human scream pulled everyone’s attention back to the rock bridge and the mining tracks in front of them.

The fiercely courageous Larian drew his long sword, holding up a torch as he charged forward.

Kovis also turned his Flying Sword toward the front, illuminating the massive rocky platform at the end of the rock bridge and the Wild Goblins with their claws bared.

Leon immediately followed suit, unsheathing his sword.

He could see not only the Wild Goblins on the platform but also several abandoned mine carts and even a huge iron mechanism embedded in the edge of the rock platform, which appeared to be some sort of lifting device.

Without a doubt, these sophisticated ancient mining facilities could not have been the product of the current human civilization on the Western Continent.

He also began to understand where these Wild Goblins came from.

When the Spirit-like Field still covered this area, this large underground mine naturally turned into Cursed Land as well.

The Spirit-like Field, spreading outward from the Mage Tower, didn’t just affect the surface.

But now, as the Spirit-like Field faded, the mine, once a forbidden zone of life, became a passageway that earthly beings could freely traverse again.

With so many tunnels intersecting, it was unclear where each rock bridge and mine led, just like the mine path they had followed here.

Perhaps this nest of Wild Goblins stumbled upon Nightmare Forest, from surrounding Kosos County, Mamor County, Glade County, or somewhere else.

Witnessing their leader rush forward, the soldiers had no choice but to face their fear of the dark abysses on either side and hurriedly followed in groups.

Fortunately, the huge and solid rock bridge beneath their feet could carry an unimaginable weight, merely a few dozen people compared to the tons that once moved back and forth on the laden mine carts.

From the darkness in the distance, a large group of Wild Goblins let out intimidating hisses and growls toward the “intruders.”

But then, spotting a well-armed, orderly troop of soldiers in plate armor and mounted knights, an almost visceral fear made these cunning but cowardly creatures turn and “charge” backward without hesitation, scattering in panic along the surrounding rock bridges.

The Crossbowmen recognized those grotesque creatures and immediately set up their crossbows to fire on the captain’s command.

A flurry of bowstrings sang, and in an instant, arrows rained down, piercing through a dozen Wild Goblins.

Up at the front, Larian sprinted forward like a leopard, quickly covering tens of meters and diving into the fleeing horde.

As Moonlight swept past, a few Wild Goblins that had just turned around were sliced in half in mid-air by his Demon Hunting Blade.

With a squelch, crimson blood splattered everywhere, and pieces of brownish flesh rolled onto the ground.

Larian was about to pursue further, but Leon called out from behind to stop him.

“Wait, no need to chase them.

This place is larger than we anticipated.

We’ll have time to slowly explore and clear each passage later…”

Leon came up to his side, followed by soldiers stepping in line onto the central rock platform of this underground cavern.

Only a few cries from the Wild Goblins were left, as the Crossbowmen tried to shoot a few more monsters not yet hidden in the darkness.

Of course, to these Wild Goblins who had only recently explored this underground cave, the army from Avalon Territory seemed more like terrifying monsters suddenly appearing.

On the torch-lit platform, Leon led his men across the area crisscrossed with mine tracks toward a massive, dimly lit but distinctly outlined silhouette that seemed almost to be a sculpture.

Halting before massive steps, he raised his lantern.

The emerald light slowly climbed, illuminating inch by inch the tremendous “artifact.”

Under the workmanship that could be considered nothing less than miraculous, it was an ancient stone sculpture carved from the rocky material below.

The sculpture, over ten meters tall, depicted…

a figure in armor, gripping a double-bladed battle axe, with a thick beard reaching down to his midsection, but his stature…

unusually short and stocky….

a dwarf?

“A statue of a Herren,” Kovis muttered, looking up.

Underground, mine, advanced technology…

Leon let out a relieved sigh.

It should have been obvious.

Those capable of creating such massive mines were none other than those advanced Lorelettians of ancient times or perhaps those “Herren” dwarves who had disappeared from the continent for centuries…
