Chapter 327 - 327 159 Griffin Mother and Child

327: Chapter 159 Griffin Mother and Child 327: Chapter 159 Griffin Mother and Child Little Gede, deep in slumber, smelled the fresh outdoor air of morning.

Yet the small body below her murmured with purrs, and the curled-up little fur ball was still too sleepy to wake, her fluttering little wings seeming to complain about the disturbance to her sleep.

The giant wings of Death Claw instinctively spread open, each feather quivering as if in excitement, and with a whoosh, a gust enveloped her, bringing her immediately up to Kovis’s front.

The huge eagle head drooped, those sharp eagle eyes fixating on the eaglet cradled in the boy’s hands.

Kovis didn’t hesitate; he held Little Gede up towards the giant beast.

The griffin’s head drew even closer, snuffling the scent of the eaglet, gingerly resting its massive head against Little Gede, with tenderness.

Magic Element flowed, reaching that sense of familiarity born of bloodlines, overwhelming elation instantly filled the mind of this king of raptors.

The griffin, ecstatic, raised its wings that almost engulfed the courtyard and lumbered back two steps with heavy thumps.

Its head raised high, beak agape, and from its mouth poured jubilant eagle cries that echoed afar.

This was a regret that countless hunted memories of blood vengeance could never relieve.

But now, the despair and rage from the long bereavement of its mate and offspring suddenly dissipated.

The beast, in its joy, flapped its mighty wings, forcing everyone to step back, dodging the windstorm they created.

At this point, even Little Gede, lost in a greedy dream, awoke amid the thunderous eagle cry.

The Little Griffin opened her eyes, still groggy, and made out her surroundings.

But upon seeing the terrifying “monster” with wings upon its back, Little Gede got so frightened that her down bristled.

She issued a loud, piercing shriek of alarm, her body frantically shrinking backward.

Kovis quickly drew back his raised arms to prevent Little Gede from falling to the ground.

Upon hearing her own eaglet’s cries of alarm, the griffin anxiously moved closer.

Yet as the behemoth with towering beak and eyes drew near, the Little Griffin screamed even louder.

Kovis gently caressed the griffin member, soothing the little one’s emotions.

Clearly, having only ever seen humans from the moment of eye-opening, being in the company of humans nearly every day since hatching last month, Little Gede didn’t recognize the giant creature before her as her kin, nor did she realize they were her closest family.

The giant griffin, watching the little one’s unfamiliarity, couldn’t help but show a humanized look of distress and helplessness.

In truth, as a young parent who had given birth for the first time, it too was somewhat at a loss.

The proud king of beasts gently murmured a few soft sounds toward the lost and found eaglet nestled in Kovis’s arms.

Leon, listening by the side, discovered for the first time that Death Claw, this massive fellow, could make such endearing “pinched sounds.” Even when he had nearly lost his life in the Spirit-like Field, the griffin’s mournful cries had been full of dignity.

He walked past Death Claw, gave the perplexed giant a pat on its paw, then stood between Death Claw and Little Gede, extending a hand to touch the eaglet, now balled up in fear.

“What should we do, my lord?

It seems that Gede truly is the child of your griffin friend, but the little one has been with us for so long, she might think she’s a human like us,” Kovis said with a wry smile.

Logically, a griffin eaglet should be able to recognize its parents, but then again, Little Gede was not yet a month old, so it was normal to be frightened and confused for the moment.

“Let’s try to calm the little one down first.”

Leon scratched the fluffy feathers on top of Little Gede’s head and after a moment’s thought, he turned to the Guards and ordered, “Go to the pasture, slaughter a fat sheep and bring it here, I invite both the big fellow and the little one to have a meal together, and remember to inform those new ladies at home, tell them not to be afraid.”

“Yes, sir.”

Guard Bozi and Dadaniel turned immediately to carry out the command.

Olivia, looking at the pitiful Little Gede, burying her head and trembling, couldn’t help but want to melt away her innate maternal instincts for this fuzzy little one and instinctively reached out to stroke the bold and fearless little fur ball.

Behind Leon, the mighty griffin became somewhat anxious, raising its head to look for the eaglet, but with its eager paws scratching the ground, it eventually had no choice but to fold its wings tightly and once again lay down obediently, patiently guarding by the trio’s side.

“Don’t be afraid, little one, your mother has come to pick you up,” Olivia cooed in a soft voice.

“Mother?” Leon, on the contrary, was taken aback and turned to ask her, “Can you tell that Death Claw is female?”

“Uh-huh, if the labeling in that book of yours is correct, looking at it…

Death Claw, the pattern on the feathers at the back of the neck, should be female,” Olivia nodded to her lover.

She was very curious about the enormous creature that had descended from the sky to save her, so she remembered the knowledge about griffins particularly clearly.

Hearing this, Leon turned to look back at the graceful Death Claw lying behind him.

So it turns out this big guy is actually a “lady.”

I’ve been calling her “buddy” before, how rude…

But you can’t blame him; back in the Nightmare Forest, although there was a chance to observe, with the tense situation, he wasn’t in the mindset to pay attention to the gender of the griffin.

At first glance, such a majestic and imposing mythical creature would be assumed male by anyone.

“If I had known you were a lady, I would have used a different name.

How about I call you ‘Gray Queen’ from now on?” Leon joked.

“?~”

The griffin cocked its head.

Leon shook his head.

Forget it, let’s stick to Death Claw.

It’s what we’re used to.

Perhaps feeling surrounded by the close presence of Kovis, Leon, and Olivia, who were with it day and night, Little Gede, panicked under the giant creature’s gaze, slowly relaxed its puffing fur.

Death Claw’s head suddenly turned to one side, sniffing the scent of fresh “food,” the bloody smell of prey on its menu triggering its appetite.

It was the two guards who had just left, rushing back with a freshly slaughtered fat sheep.

Little Gede, nestled in Kovis’s arms, couldn’t help but feel its stomach rumble and it lifted its head.

Despite the fear not being completely gone, the desire to eat was incredibly strong at this “age.”

Leon rolled up his sleeves, cut off a bloody lamb leg with a dagger, and handed it to Olivia to feed Gede.

He, meanwhile, approached Death Claw with the fat sheep in tow.

“Friends coming from afar, is that not a cause for a feast?

Here’s breakfast for you,” Leon said as he set down the food.

The griffin chirped softly, as if in gratitude.

With its intelligence, it naturally understood the kindness of its human friend.

And the mutual salvation they had shared made it trust that the food provided by the other had no hidden dangers.

Its huge, sharp claws pulled the sheep carcass closer, and the griffin lowered its head to peck and tear at the meat.

Watching Death Claw feast heartily, Leon smiled with satisfaction.

He felt more reluctant than ever to part with the big fellow before him.

Truth be told, now he could really afford to keep a griffin, and it was false to say he didn’t desire for it to stay.

Having it guard his domain, during the battle of Longka, Death Claw would just need to fly over, and the ragtag enemy forces, comprising criminals and peasant soldiers, would surely have been scared witless.

Even the main infantry of Wolfenhol couldn’t possibly withstand the onslaught of this terrifying beast.

Leon fearlessly approached the dining griffin.

When it had returned last time, gnawing on horse remains, he had noticed that the griffin didn’t have any food aggression.

Its intelligence was as recorded in Lorelette’s documents, once able to communicate with humans using “language,” able to completely distinguish between friend, foe, and stranger.

It didn’t react impulsively towards its companions like some foolish poultry or beasts.

And not just that…

Leon watched as the griffin tore off a piece of fat lamb meat with its beak and offered it to him, and he quickly waved his hands.

“Thanks, you eat,” Leon smirked.

Maybe accepting the share could bridge the gap a little more between them, but he truly didn’t wish to try eating raw meat and blood unless he was as desperate as during their escape.

Watching the griffin digest the refusal and swallow the fat sheep, skin and bone included, Leon reached out and pressed his hand against Death Claw’s lion body, feeling the “Griffin Lady’s” taut and tough skin.

It was like touching a wall, warm and covered by a thick layer of hardened leather armor.

With such a robust body, ordinary swords wielded at full force were no more effective than scratching it.

Nothing short of siege-level weaponry, comparable to testudo formation and bed crossbows, could harm such a beast, exalted by the Holy Sun Church as a “Holy Beast.”

Leon’s eyes heated up with greater fervor as he watched Death Claw.

If he could craft a sturdy set of war beast chest armor, belly armor, helmets, arm armor for his griffin friend…

Leon didn’t even dare to imagine just how impressive that would be.

Perhaps with such an armored Death Claw on the battlefield, there would be no need to fight the enemy; just standing at the front line would fill his own troops with morale to the brim, making Baizi royal morale boosters entirely unnecessary.
