Chapter 245 - 245 127 Battle of Longka 3 Melee
245: Chapter 127 Battle of Longka 3 (Melee) 245: Chapter 127 Battle of Longka 3 (Melee) Gazing through the remnants of the charred wooden wall that still smoldered, Leon narrowed his eyes at the distant Longka Front.
The opponent’s narrow column that seemed transparent in a glance exposed Longka’s relatively inferior force.
Despite the rugged battlefield created by the opponent which significantly limited the unfolding of his troops during the attack, the substantially greater numbers allowed his formation to be longer, thicker, and more compact than the enemy’s.
His gaze swept over the terrain within the wooden walls, thoughtfully considering the forest to the south.
Then he turned to look at the riverbank to the north.
On the opposite bank to the northeast, he could see that the old knight Henkel had led two hundred men who had already begun to command the militia to cut down trees and were constructing a pontoon bridge to attempt a river crossing.
From the south?
Or from the north?
Leon withdrew his gaze, made a decision, and issued orders to the messenger officer behind him.
The Attendant took the orders seriously, immediately spurring his horse forward out of the ranks until he got close to the target banner before blowing the military whistle.
The infantry soldiers, marching at ease, swiftly turned their heads upon hearing the whistle approaching the side of the Swallowtail Flag of the formation.
The Knight Attendant who was responsible for delivering orders slowed his pace and bellowed the military command, “Luo Sen Soldier!
Lord Canis orders your unit to quickly proceed to the left flank, to assist the Ascofo Soldier’s formation, ready to flank the enemy’s most northern end after the attack.
Archer squads will accompany and cover you.”
“Understood!” the Soldier roared back, immediately turning his head and yelling orders for his unit to change direction.
Wolfenhol Soldiers paused their march, turned the formation, and with thundering footsteps, jogged to the formation’s left flank, lining up parallel with Ascofo’s square formation, with the Wolf Family archers closely following.
Leon, from the back ranks, oversaw the entire scene.
The first rank of the army formation, led by Luo Sen and Ascofo, formed two Wolfenhol infantry squares on the left flank as the primary force of the first wave of the attack.
The Central Army to the right consisted of three Conscripted Soldier formations of varying sizes.
These units, avoiding the enemy Arrow Towers, were to pin down and whittle away at the enemy’s southern lines of defense, and the extra numbers could also complete the encirclement.
Behind the Conscripted Soldier line, with a gap for maneuvering, the second row consisted of two Wolfenhol Soldier formations under the command of Knight Yom who would, as the situation dictated, choose to support other formations or outflank the enemy lines after the battle broke out.
After the Attendant finished his task and returned to the ranks, the entire Wolf Domain Army made the final tactical adjustments on the field.
Leon drew his long sword, raising it high in the direction of Longka: “Wolf Pack, attack.”
The trumpets roared.
The dry ground, freshly passed by winter, trembled slightly under the feet of thousands.
The army formation, spanning hundreds of meters, advanced slowly like an incoming tide, with the erected Spears and halberds resembling a moving forest of iron.
Wolfenhol’s Armored Soldiers, holding high their Shields, crossed the filled trenches and the embers on the ground that had not yet died out, amidst the sporadic incoming arrows.
The heavily outfitted Cavalry, led by the Wolf Family Young Master, slowly advanced their horse hooves in line with the forward formations.
…
“Right squad, tighten the formation!
Realign into four rows!”
Witnessing the enemy’s main force crossing the remnants of the wooden wall and slowly advancing to our right flank, Mr.
Brian Sr.
immediately ordered Platon Squad’s Spear bearers to thicken the formation behind him.
He approached Leon’s Warhorse and loudly called out, “The right flank, relying only on Platon Squad, cannot stop an enemy elite twice our size.
Please issue orders quickly.”
Leon, mounted on his horse, nodded, and turned to the nearby Heavy Armor Guards, “No need to wait, command the reserve squad to come support the right flank immediately.”
Guard Baville, upon receiving the order from his Lord, immediately blew the horn he held in his hand.
Shortly after, responding horn sounds also came from the east of the Longka camp behind the formation.
The muzzles of the War Beasts were removed one by one.
The hidden Duwana Long Spear soldiers, following the signal represented by the rhythm and number of the horn sounds, led by their officers, jogged and appeared along the north side of the camp, speeding towards the front line.
Iron chains pulled each of the giant dogs, Longka’s only elite infantry, passing through the narrow space between the camp and the river to the north.
On the other side of the river, where the Wolf Domain Militia were cutting wood and building bridges, they immediately noticed this large group of Armored Soldiers emerging from the camp’s shadow.
However, the leading Duwana Soldier was not worried about this moment of exposure.
Gazing ahead at the impending front line of battle, the timing was impeccably precise; the enemy’s main force advancing shielding themselves from afar no longer had the option to switch their formation and change the direction of the attack.
As for the other side, those Militia wouldn’t be able to properly construct a pontoon bridge to cross the river in one to two quarters of an hour.
Listening to the orderly, thunderous footsteps behind him and the frantic bark of the Duwana War Dogs, Leon turned his Warhorse around, leading the Guards behind Platon Squad, giving up the front line.
“Form up!!”
The Duwana Soldier stood firm at the front of the formation and turned back to shout.
The Long Spear Soldiers, whose formation was slightly disordered from jogging, immediately and proficiently reorganized their ranks.
The frontmost Spearmen erected their long shields, and their comrades behind them lifted their poles at an angle, presenting the War Axes closely and densely, forming a thicket of Sharp Blades.
On the right side, ten Dog Trainers loosened the iron chains coiled around their right arms.
The bellowing giant dogs felt the slackening around their necks and instinctively charged towards the distant figures, pulling the Soldiers to the point where they nearly lost their balance, but they were then pulled back into the formation by their handlers’ calls.
Leon slightly pulled the reins, keeping his Warhorse a bit away from the roaring War Beasts.
The barks of the giant dogs were not only terrifying but also caused his Warhorse to feel a bit anxious and restless.
…
Behind the Wolf Domain Army formation, Canis skirted the caltrops and obstacles moved by the Soldiers, observing the changes unfolding on the northern side of the Longka Front.
