Chapter 242 - 242 125 The Battle of Longka I Disparity_2

242: Chapter 125: The Battle of Longka I (Disparity)_2 242: Chapter 125: The Battle of Longka I (Disparity)_2 Over a decade ago during the Battle of Lower Bezo, General Barren of the former King defeated an army of three thousand Garsom soldiers with just five hundred warriors, using the terrain to his advantage.

If conditions are right, numbers don’t determine everything…

Moreover, the troops of the Gunnar Family are nowhere near that level of strength.

Knight Redo paused before saying, “Of course, I respect your decision.

If you wish to withdraw, I’ll lead my own forces at the rear, to prevent the retreat from turning into a rout.”

Listening to the counsel of two experienced soldiers, Leon found his confidence.

Time was pressing, and he didn’t hesitate, immediately issuing his orders.

“Allowing the Wolf Family forces to rampage will surely result in thousands of our people being displaced within the Baron Domain.

We cannot retreat without a fight.

Brian, deploy the archers to the arrow towers on the high slope, and you lead the infantry of the Three Kingdoms with tactics from Plan One, forming up in the caltrops area south of the high slope.

Azeryan, Lokhak, lead your respective cavalry under the command of the esteemed Redo.

Sir Redo, the force you’ve brought is Longka’s trump card.

Please let the Square Banner soldiers lead the Long Spear Soldiers out of the East Gate and hide them to the east of Longka, as a reserve force, ready to support the front line at a moment’s notice once the battle erupts…”

“Understood.” The men granted the orders pounded their chests in the warrior’s salute, then each slung their helmets and turned, descending the staircase of the arrow tower.

Watching her father being dispatched, Olivia couldn’t help but grip him, her eyes betraying unavoidable concern.

She didn’t regret the decision to stay in Selva; being able to defend her homeland against the enemy, she was grateful for the opportunity to put her martial arts training to use.

But the fact that her father now had to rush to the battlefield because of her decision to forgo moving was undeniable…

With slightly trembling lips, the young girl lowered her head with a tinge of self-reproach in her soft voice, “Father, please be careful.”

Seeing the guilt on his daughter’s face just like when she had gotten into mischief as a child, Mr.

Brian Sr.

smiled reassuringly.

Seeing that Sir Redo and the others had already left, he turned back to Olivia and comforted her: “Worrying for nothing, silly child.

Your dad has been through battles a hundred times bigger than this.

What’s this compared to those?

There are no terrifying Flying Dragons, no armor-clad Barbarian Giants, no overwhelming Horror Wolf Knights from the Eastern Border Duke, and no fiery rain descending from the sky.

These old bones of mine aren’t going to be taken down by a couple of Gunnar farmers.”

“Dragon?…

Giant?

Horror…

Wolf?”

Olivia, hearing words that seemed ripped from legends, widened her bright eyes in awe.

“Never heard of them, have you?

I didn’t dare tell you before, but it’s okay now…

Don’t worry, I’ll tell you all about your old dad’s bravery when I come back.” He raised his large hand, ruffling his daughter’s tightly bound hair meant for marriage, and with a content smile, put on the iron helmet.

His steps, though slightly limping, were firm as he descended the arrow tower…

Quietly watching the father and daughter’s brief farewell, Leon couldn’t help but sigh to his lover.

“I’m sorry, Olivia, I cannot overlook your father’s capabilities.

Knight Redo wouldn’t be able to command local forces that are unfamiliar to him effectively.

And I must lead from the front, without the experience or capacity to issue commands amidst a chaotic army…”

Olivia shook her head, interrupting her lover’s apology: “Staying to help everyone was a unanimous decision between my father and me.

Besides, everyone is facing danger no less than ours.

It is those who invade our land that put my father in harm’s way, not you.

Don’t feel guilty.”

She stepped closer to Leon with a playful smile, teasing, “Or what, are you apologizing to me because you think I can’t understand the situation?”

“No.”

Leon looked at the spirited young woman before him, his bitter smile betraying a sense of self-chastisement: “It’s me who is being irrational with selfish thoughts.

In truth, I did quietly ponder if I could find a fitting reason, even if it meant deceiving you, to send you away from Longka.”

Caught by surprise, Olivia blinked.

She could feel the concern her lover had for her safety, even though she would never agree to abandon him and hide from danger alone.

Not just for Leon’s sake, but also for all their comrades in arms, friends…

and the innocent and defenseless villagers.

“You didn’t do it in the end, and besides, I’m not a fool.

You can’t deceive me,” the young girl said with a raised eyebrow and a cheerful smile.

“Yeah, whether I could deceive you or not, I wouldn’t want to insult you with such selfish intentions,” Leon acknowledged, gazing at the beautiful figure before him clad in armor, every inch the figure of a knight.

Admiring his precious treasure, a sense of pride filled him as he raised his hand to stroke her smooth golden hair.

“You are destined to be the lion of Selva, not the little kitten in my arms.

With reliable comrades at your side, I believe you’ll come through unharmed.” Leon’s hand fell on her sturdy shoulder pauldron, looking at her trustingly: “Go, and bring us victory.”

Energized by the encouragement of his beloved, Olivia nodded firmly.

The young girl picked up her helmet and turned to join the cavalry troops, but as she reached the stairs, she suddenly glanced sideways at her lover.

“But actually, being your…

‘cat’ isn’t so bad.”

Blushing, Olivia murmured the words and quickly put on her helmet to hide her flushed cheeks, then ran down the stairs as if fleeing.

Leon couldn’t help but smile with his lips pursed.

“My lord!

Look there.”

Kovis, observing the distant formations, looked back to alert Leon.

Leon followed Kovis’s gaze.

He saw several knights emerging from the enemy’s left wing, coming out of their formation on a gentle slope.

They held high the Wolf Banner of the Gunnar Family, approaching the outer wall of the distant trench, then led by the foremost knight, they began to pace back and forth on horseback.

By their actions…

it was clear that although they hadn’t sent a messenger over the low wall, the enemy seemed to have something to say.

“Shall we send someone to check it out?” Kovis asked, glancing at his lord beside him.

Leon looked up to check the position of the sun and then shook his head, “No, I’ll meet them myself.

Let’s see what trash talk these fellows want to spout.

The more time we can drag out, the better.”

He put on his Wing Helmet and walked down from the Arrow Tower with Kovis.

Arriving next to his guards, he led his Wuzhui Warhorse over and climbed onto it.

The mount, already rested and robust, was now covered in its full suit of heavy armor.

The Knight Horse Robe, black with embroidered edges and bearing the family emblem, draped over its majestic frame.

The flexible neck armor layered and nested snugly, a sturdy Horse Armor Chest Plate, and the warhorse mask outfitted this prized steed like a living war chariot.

Paired with the heavily plated-covered Heavy Armor Knight atop the saddle, this was the very definition of a living tank of the era.

Leon took a Riding Spear from Zabron, who was cloaked in heavy armor, spurred his mount, and led the flag-bearer Kovis along with the Guard Squad, marching out from the Longka camp.

In single file, with six Heavy Armor Guards in tow, they moved silently through the advancing ranks of infantry.

The soldiers, spears resting on their shoulders, couldn’t help but glance at the fluttering embroidered Sword Wings banner.

Feeling their lord march with them to the front line of battle, the warriors’ spirits were lifted.

On a distant hill, two squads of archers ascended an enlarged and heightened Arrow Tower.

Beneath the hill, a series of pits and sharp stakes transformed the land behind the outer low wall into a landscape of uneven and pitted terrain.

Mr.

Brian Sr., holding the Pendragon emblem flag, galloped through the ranks of spearmen, shouting commands as the formations were organized.

The warriors formed several horizontal rows as they had practiced, temporarily placing their simple Throwing Spears on the ground.

Leon passed through the ranks and the obstacle-laden battlefield, slowly approaching the outer wooden wall and halting his warhorse.

Zabron, with the guards, stepped forward swiftly and looked through observation holes in the wall to inspect the situation outside.

The enemy’s formation was still far away, getting ready for battle, and those few advancing knights were still lingering outside the trench.

Having confirmed the enemy situation beyond the wall, the guards received Leon’s command and then opened the large doors of the wooden wall for their lord.

With the creaking and rasping sounds of rough wood, the gate of the fort opened.

Canis shouted immediately, leading his attendants and family knights on horseback to a position ten meters from the moat and the wooden wall, then stopped.

“Listen up!”

The Wolf Family Young Master, eyes glaring and voice raised, shouted fiercely at the silver-armored knight wearing a Wing Helmet: “Cowards of Farolis who dabble in witchcraft!

I am Canis of Wolfenhol.

If you don’t wish to be torn to shreds by the Wolf Pack, you have one moment to roll out from that ridiculous wooden shack and surrender—I assure you, we’ll leave you with your thumbs!…”
