“Hmm, nope.”
“Toothbrush?”
“Guess again.”
“Incense?
Perfume, perhaps?”
“Still wrong.”
“A comb?”
“Keep going, you’re getting close,” Leon teased.
Unable to guess correctly and with her eyes covered, Olivia pursed her lips in resignation, “I give up, you really got me stumped, what is it?”
Having had his fun, Leon decided not to torment the girl any further.
“Alright, it’s time to reveal the answer, ta-da~”
He removed his hands and presented the hair accessory he had been holding behind her to the girl.
“!?”
Olivia’s eyes slowly widened.
Caught off guard, she shivered in surprise, her heart suddenly thumping wildly.
A…a…hair tie?
A hair tie?!!
Leon, blissfully unaware, said cheerily, “Just a little something, didn’t cost much.
I wasn’t sure what color you prefer, but this blue one will definitely suit your blonde hair.”
By now, the girl’s mind was buzzing so loudly she could barely hear him.
She couldn’t contain the heat rushing to her cheeks, and her eyes seemed to quiver with panic.
“Leon…you…you…no, I…you’re giving me…you’re giving me…a hair tie?” her face turned red as she waved her hands, stammering as though possessed by Hawk, unable to coherently finish a sentence.
Leon, seeing her intense reaction, became perplexed.
Looking down at the blue hair tie inlaid with an amber stone, which might be quite pricey for the lower class but not excessively so for a household as rich as Olivia’s, he thought.
Or perhaps, she doesn’t like the style?
Scratching his head, Leon asked, “You don’t think the color suits you?
Should I get you another one?
I also bought some for Elena and Little Lina, I have some white and light blue ones left in my bag.”
He glanced toward his travel bag.
“What?” Olivia was momentarily stunned.
“…You bought them for everyone?…”
Her tense mood was suddenly doused with a bucket of cold water, and she slowly calmed down.
The clever girl, listening to his Ferlu accent, remembered…
Right.
She had almost forgotten, Leon wasn’t an Orland person.
Realizing that the man before her clearly didn’t understand the Northern traditions, Olivia felt a mix of relief and a tinge of loss.
Though she felt relieved, a hint of gloom also welled up inside her.
However, the next moment, the girl internally scolded herself for her wild imagination, her cheeks flushing even more.
Leon turned to grab another hair accessory from his bag, but suddenly felt a tug on the one in his hand.
Olivia swiftly reached out and took the lovely blue hair tie.
“No need, I like this color, and…”
The girl, not daring to look directly at the boy, turned her head and murmured softly, trying to suss out, “In Seryan, is it really okay to just give a hair tie to any woman?”
Leon raised an eyebrow.
He thought, what could be so wrong about giving a hair accessory?
It’s not like a ring…or…
Hmm?
His heart skipped a beat, Leon’s eyes widened.
Having heard the girl’s question, his proactive mind quickly picked up on the implication of her words.
“In Seryan Kingdom, it’s really nothing special to give a friend a hair tie,” Leon said awkwardly, yet he didn’t clarify the vague premonition tickling his mind.
Even though it was unintended, if he were to come out and clarify, and subsequently had to politely refuse if Olivia offered him a hairpin, Leon felt his heart might just break into pieces.
Nonetheless, as Olivia confirmed that it was indeed just an ordinary gift, her heart dimmed slightly.
Carefully folding the hair tie, she said morosely to Leon, “Thank you for the gift, then I’ll gladly accept it.”
“Yeah, as long as you like it…” Leon replied dejectedly.
For a moment, the room was steeped in silence.
“Oh,” Leon piped up with an idea, eager to break the sudden awkwardness.
“Actually, the reason I wanted to give you a hair tie was because I’ve always seen you with a ponytail, and I thought it’d be cumbersome with a helmet.
I know a convenient updo style that works well with a helmet, would you like me to try putting it up for you?” he proposed with a smile.
It was true, Leon had long harbored the desire to change up her usual look every now and then.
Surprise flickered in Olivia’s eyes upon hearing his words.
She looked at Leon, her lips parting silently.
Unsure of how to respond and with her tranquility shattered by his abrupt offer, her heart began to thrash once again.
The girl touched the ponytail at the back of her head, her face hot, and feeling a bit frustrated.
…He wants to use this hair tie…
…To personally tie her hair?
Does he really not understand the significance of giving a hair tie, or is he teasing her on purpose?
Yet, as she caught the earnest anticipation in Leon’s unique black eyes devoid of any guile, Olivia averted her gaze, her heart racing as she inexplicably nodded, “…Ahem~…
Well~…
Then let’s…try it…”
Seeing her nod, Leon’s eyes brightened with joy.
Even without starting, he could already picture how fitting the sophisticated braided bun would look on Olivia.
He quickly rummaged through his travel bag for a wooden comb, then moved a chair over.
…At this point, there was no turning back, the girl thought.
She walked over and sat down stiffly, her knees propped up.
Leon moved behind her to undo her single ponytail, yet his composure was challenged anew as his fingers touched her delicate and beautiful hair, their softness stirring an uncontrollable wildness within him.
