Chapter 71: Psychotic Vampire
"You received a gift, I see. Such a sweet childhood friend you have," Alec said with a frown after Ethan left. He took a pause from reading case reports because he was annoyed and couldn’t understand the words he was reading.
"It is something that will help me get rid of my sister, Eloise. It is a drug that will make a black mage run wild and I plan to give it to her on her engagement soiree the day after tomorrow," Lauren replied while holding the vial in her fingers. She did not think such a drug existed and she was only hoping for Ethan to find it, that was why when Ethan brought it to her, she was glad.
"You should have asked me. I have drugs like that on my mansion."
"You have?" She looked at Alec in surprise. "You should have told me. Why do have a drug like this anyway?"
"I discovered it some years ago. It makes my job easier when it comes to determining if someone is a black mage or not. The drug isn’t easy to make though, so it is limited and not accessible to many."
"I see."
Alec stood from his seat and went in front of his desk. He leaned on his back while crossing his arms. There was a certain look on his face hinting that he was somewhat annoyed, but Lauren was too engrossed with the drug to notice it.
"So what exactly is your relationship with Ethan Sullivan?"
The question surprised Lauren. "Why do you ask?"
"I’m curious, is it wrong?"
Lauren knew that despite how she had said many times that Ethan and her were just very good friends, some people still believed that they must be more than friends considering how long they had known each other. The rumors only died down when she married Alec, but still, in most people’s eyes she and Ethan were former lovers.
"Perhaps are you jealous?" This time it was her who teased Alec. She got annoyed with how he teased her earlier when he forced her to eat the bowl of soup.
His eyes darkened at her.
"You shouldn’t concern yourself with my relationships with other men, Alec. Since you find me unfuckable," she felt uncomfortable at the vulgar word but she continued, "I had given you the freedom to have other women fulfill your needs. Of course, we should have equal rights since this is a partnership," she said calmly. She was discarding a rule in their contract for his sake and she assumed he would be pleased by it.
However, his face remained hard and his eyes narrowed to slits.
"Does that mean you are not just friends with Ethan Sullivan? There is something more going on between you two, is that it?"
Lauren wanted to laugh because she always found it ridiculous when people assumed Ethan was his lover but she held back her smile seeing how serious Alec was.
"That is not the point. What I am trying to say is we can spend time with other people if we want to because basically, we can’t fulfill each other’s needs. About Ethan and I, we are just good friends. He is like a brother to me so you should not put malice in it," she said.
Walking toward her with soulless orbs that looked ready to swallow her alive, Alec stopped beside the bed, looking down at her deviously. She felt a lump in her throat as she tried to maintain eye contact with him. Even though she had been close to him many times, his presence was still too much for her.
He then sat on the bed on her right side, almost leaving no space between them. She wanted to move away but with the headboard behind her, it was impossible.
Putting his hand above her head and leaning closer to her until his face was only a couple of inches away, he whispered with a velvety voice, "In other words, you want to explore other men. Am I correct, dear Lauren?"
It wasn’t her main point but to regain her lost pride, she answered even when she was uncomfortable with the topic, "Why not? I was insulted by how you left me on my first time and how you said I was unfuckable. So, I think that maybe I can explore other men to make up for my lack of experience. I suppose it is not wrong for a woman who is not tied to any man."
"You are tied to me."
Her brows furrowed. "But that is different. We are not a real couple so we don’t have to stay faithful to this marriage. Don’t you want the same thing? Let’s admit it, a man like you got needs. You need a woman of your preference since I’m not capable-"
"I changed my mind," he cut her off.
"What do you mean?" Lauren grew confused. She couldn’t forget his harsh and unfiltered words after the night he discovered she was a virgin with no experience with men, and how disappointed he was because he didn’t get the good fuck that he wanted. It was a big slap to her as a woman and made her think that preserving herself for someone worthy was wrong.
"I think I can make an exception for you," he muttered under his breath and played with the locks of her hair below her chest. "Perhaps I can give you some training so you don’t need to explore other men. Your blood is my favorite now and I want you to remain untouched by others. Let’s say I’m a possessive predator who doesn’t want his meal getting any dirt."
What did he just say? He would give her some training? Lauren’s cheeks heated at the thought. She really couldn’t understand how Alec’s mind worked. One minute he was throwing her away and the next minute he was pulling her back. She realized how psychotic of a vampire he was.
