Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord -
Chapter 68: Obvious Lies
Chapter 68: Obvious Lies
Queen Thalia was speechless at how Alec demanded her to step out of his way harshly like she was a mere peasant. She was insulted but with those dark crimson eyes staring at her like a devil promising her death, she couldn’t bring herself to react and just moved out of the lord’s way.
Alec went straight to the bedroom and laid Lauren on the bed. He couldn’t hear her heartbeat now and she wasn’t breathing anymore.
He muttered a curse and put his palm above her chest where her heart laid. His palm emitted a light of blue flame, applying pressure and warmth to her heart so it would beat again. It was a way to revive a heart that just stopped beating.
When Alec sensed how her heart started to beat again, he pressed his eyes shut for a second before he picked her up and brought her to the bathroom.
He laid her on the tub and filled it with warm water. Lauren’s body was still freezing and it was what she needed for her blood to get back to its normal circulation.
Feeling the warmth of the water enveloping her body, Lauren gained a bit of consciousness and felt the hands unbuttoning her dress.
"N-no..." she croaked in between her labored breathing.
"It is me, Lauren. We need to take off your clothes."
She recognized Alec’s voice but she was too weak to flinch. She couldn’t even move her eyelids.
Seeing the wounds on Lauren’s arms and legs after taking off all her clothes, his jaw clenched hard. He knew she wasn’t too careless to trap herself inside the mirror. Someone must have planned it and he knew the culprit must be the Queen or her sisters.
After making sure that Lauren’s body got back its normal temperature, Alec dressed her himself and laid her back on the bed. He told a maid to ask every physician in the castle to come over.
The royal physicians immediately arrived a minute later.
"Her cuts are deep and normal medicines won’t help. Do whatever is necessary to mend her." Alec’s firm demand and sharp eyes watching the physicians were saying that he wouldn’t mind killing them if they made a mistake.
"Only the females can touch her. The males will assist," Alec added and the male physicians who were about to check Lauren’s cuts stepped back right away. There were four males and three females.
The physicians felt the pressure under Alec’s scrutinizing eyes that didn’t leave them the whole time they were attending to Lauren. Since Lauren’s wounds were inflicted by wraiths, using herbal medicines was not working. They needed to use a healing spell. However, it was impossible for them to mend the wounds completely and the least thing they could do was to stop them from bleeding.
"We have done everything we can, milord. We have stopped the bleeding of Princess Lauren’s wounds and sewed the huge cuts. We also gave her medicine to relieve the pain. Her pulse is steady now and she will gain consciousness an hour later," the head physician said.
While the physician informed Alec about the medicine that Lauren should take orally to make her heal faster, the door opened and Queen Thalia entered the room with a worried expression.
"Oh, my goodness! What happened to Lauren, Alec? I was shocked when I saw you downstairs carrying her in such a state. I went to His Majesty to inform him about the mishap. He said he will check on her once he is done with the court meeting. I was worried sick!"
Alec’s eyes darkened at the Queen when he realized she had a familiar scent. He didn’t bother to familiarize himself with the scents of everyone he came across, but on special occasions, familiarizing one’s scent could do him some help. Just like how he realized that the other scent he smelled in the room of mirrors was Queen Thalia’s. It only meant it was her who was with Lauren when it all happened.
"You shouldn’t worry, Your Majesty. Lauren is now out of danger and will gain consciousness soon," he said.
"Thank God!" she blurted out with an exaggerated sigh.
She then inquired, "May I ask what happened to her? Where did you find her? The poor girl must have suffered!"
Although Queen Thalia was acting like a mother caring for her daughter, at the back of her mind she wondered how Lauren escaped the soul-eating mirror. It was a powerful mage relic holding the power to trap any creature with a soul inside its hellish world wherein one would face deadly things that would lead anyone to death. But as far as she knew, there was no way out of the mirror. She was full of joy last night thinking that she finally got rid of the thorn in the royal family as she was sure Lauren couldn’t make it out alive, that was why when he saw Lauren in Alec’s arms, she was dumbfounded.
"I’m afraid I can’t answer your question, Queen Thalia. I don’t know what exactly happened to Lauren. I just found her outside the castle with the state she was in, so I hurriedly brought her inside," Alec replied and watched the unsettled expression on the Queen’s face.
"Perhaps she was attacked by a black mage?" Although Queen Thalia was relieved that Alec had no idea what really happened to Lauren, she knew that once Lauren woke up and spoke about how she pushed her to the mirror, she might be put in a difficult situation.
Alec’s tone was cold as ice when he spoke, "I will investigate it myself, Your Majesty. Whoever did this to my wife, I shall spare him no mercy. I will make sure he will suffer the same thing that happened to Lauren. I have solved a lot of cases and beheaded many criminals after all. It shouldn’t be that hard."
Queen Thalia flinched at how Alec sounded so ruthless. But she tried to hide how disturbed she was and forced a smile. "Of course, anyone who dares harm the royal family only deserves the worst punishment."
