Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord
Chapter 46: Glimpse of truth

Chapter 46: Glimpse of truth

"Flirting!" Lauren’s eyes widened. She could not believe the word Alec used.

"It is what people call being polite. Obviously, you don’t know how that works," she said while glaring at him.

Alec didn’t say anything and just sat on the sofa.

Vivian returned at the same time Lucas did, and the man told them to go upstairs because the priestess would meet them.

Lucas led them inside a room where there were shelves at the sides filled with books about spells, racks filled with bottles of medicines, glass tubes with herbs, and other strange things.

In a far corner near the window covered with a dark curtain, a middle-aged woman was sitting. She wore a brown collared dress and her hair black as ebony was done in a neat updo.

"Aunt Priscilla!" Vivian went to embrace the woman and kiss her cheek.

"It is not the time of the year yet, so I wonder what brought you here," the priestess said, her tone holding warmth.

"This is my friend Lauren and her husband, Lord Everston. They want to talk to you about something."

Lucas who stood near the door was shocked when he heard how Vivian introduced the lord to the priestess. When he saw them downstairs, he never thought the two were married. The princess had such a bright and lively aura, like warm sunlight, while the lord was the exact opposite. He was like the darkness, dull, lifeless, and too grim. It was an odd pair, Lucas thought.

"Lady Priscilla," Alec gave the priestess a small bow and Lauren did the same.

"I hope it is not too late to congratulate you on your marriage. Take a seat," she said gesturing to the seats in front of her table.

When the two had seated, Vivian excused herself as she was not directly involved with the matter. She and Lucas left the room, giving the three enough privacy.

"Not too late, milady. We just got married recently," said Lauren.

Lady Priscilla’s eyes stayed on her for a moment, her face holding a gentle expression. Lauren wondered what made the priestess look at her like that, it was as if she saw something in her, but the woman didn’t speak about it.

"So how can I be of help?"

"We heard you are a skilled mage priestess, Lady Priscilla. It seems that you hold a unique gift that allows you to look into people’s past through their blood. It would be a big help if you do us a favor," Alec said without beating around the bush.

"It is true," the priestess replied but a subtle worry showed in her eyes. "But let me make it clear to you that there are certain parts of a person’s past that I can’t touch. I only see a bit of it and I don’t have the power to choose what I will see. The memories had always been vague no matter how I tried to enhance my skill. So, if I can help you or not, it depends on what you want to know."

Alec pulled a vial of blood from his pocket. It was the blood of the savage he imprisoned in his dungeon.

"This is the blood of a man who had turned into a savage. He looks like a black mage, only that he is not. He is stronger and more durable than a black mage, and his goal is not to suck people’s energy but to kill every person he would lay his eyes on. As of the moment, two savages had been found. The other one is a little girl but she had been killed. We want to know if you can find out what kind the man belonged to, and how he became a deranged being."

"I am afraid that is a hard task, Lord Everston. But since this is truly a dangerous matter that will put many lives in danger, I will see what I can do."

The priestess stood and got something from the nearby drawer. She laid a rectangular silver platter on the table, only that it wasn’t a normal platter, it had strange drawings and writings on it that both Lauren and Alec didn’t understand. They didn’t ask about it and just watched Lady Priscilla do her thing.

Uttering incantations with her eyes closed, the priestess poured the blood at the center of the platter where a red stone glowed after a drop of blood fell on it. The writings and drawings started to emit white light.

Lady Priscilla laid both of her hands an inch above the platter and stayed still like a statue on her seat for a few seconds until her eyes flew open.

The priestess’ eyes had turned all white with some things around her flying in the air, and the whole house was suddenly shaking.

"What is happening?" Lauren asked and caught a vase that almost fell from Lady Priscilla’s table. Looking around, she noticed the mansion was mostly made of old wood and she wondered if the house wouldn’t collapse if this would take longer.

"I can sense a strong spell keeping this house standing so it won’t collapse," Alec who saw the question in Lauren’s eyes said. "Lady Priscilla must be aware of how she affects her surroundings when she is doing this."

After a few minutes, the shaking finally stopped and the things flying in the air went back to their places as if nothing happened. The priestess opened her eyes and a sigh escaped her lips when she looked at Lauren and Alec.

"What did you see?" Alec asked.

"The poor child was chased out by his mother and was forced to live on the streets downtown until a carriage stopped in front of him and a woman gave him bread and water. After that, he started having headaches, torturous nightmares, so much pain..." Lady Priscilla trailed off, her face was marked with anxiety and sadness.

"I did not see much but I know he was a human before he turned into a monster, and although the memory did not show me the person’s face who gave him bread and water, I know it was a woman with her delicate fingers and polished nails. She had two diamond rings on her index finger, one with a ruby stone and the other with an emerald."
