While Noelle couldn’t pay attention to her surroundings because of the pain in her head, Princess Iris turned around and saw Alec standing by the cell’s doorway.

Alec’s eyes were so cold and dark that the vampiress felt a shiver of fear run down her back. She had encountered many vampires before, mostly from high society, but Alec’s commanding presence and devious aura were unlike anything she had encountered before.

"You seem to have found yourself lost in my dungeon, Princess Iris," Alec said, his voice low and filled with danger.

The vampiress chuckled, attempting to mask her nervousness. "Well, I was curious to see what Evardin’s castle dungeon looks like. I hope you don’t mind, Your Majesty."

However, the vampire didn’t look pleased, causing her chuckle to die down, and she felt more nervous than ever before in her life.

"You may have thought I was a nice man because of how hospitable I’ve been to your family," Alec said in a low, threatening voice. "But when it comes to people who dare to meddle in my affairs, I don’t take such acts kindly. There’s an unspoken rule in every castle, or in every man’s home, Princess Iris. You cannot simply step into any private space, and you must know that a castle’s dungeon is a king’s private space."

Princess Iris found herself gagged, unable to speak for herself. She was a princess who was adored and respected in her kingdom. She was used to receiving praises, not insults. But this time, she couldn’t say anything and felt powerless. Her eyes watered, and all she could do was run away.

Once the vampiress was out of Alec’s sight, his gaze fell on the wincing woman. Sensing her pain, Alec instantly rushed to Noelle’s side. He quickly removed her shackles, and with Noelle’s fading consciousness, he carried her into his arms and made his way out of the dungeon.

Walking through the hallways, Alec ran into Matthias, who was taken aback by the sight of the king and the maid who was initially claimed to be an impostor.

"Take Anthony to my bedroom," Alec commanded without giving Matthias a chance to voice out his questions, as he moved at vampire speed.

Just as Alec placed Noelle on his bed, Anthony and Matthias arrived. Matthias’s lips parted as he looked at the woman in the king’s bed. He glanced at Anthony, then back at Alec.

’I am missing something, aren’t I?’ Matthias thought, unable to take his eyes off the woman in bed, who seemed to be in deep pain.

"Do you need anything, Your Majesty? Should I call the royal physicians?" Matthias asked.

"That is not needed," Anthony said, walking towards the bed. He placed his palm on Noelle’s forehead, and his palm emitted a bright yellow light, dancing around his fingers. "Her mind seems to be in trouble, creating the illusion of pain. But it has nothing to do with her physical condition. She’s perfectly fine and doesn’t need a physician."

Gradually, Noelle’s contorted face relaxed as if she had stopped feeling the pain. But when Anthony withdrew his palm, she had fallen asleep. Her face now appeared peaceful, and her breathing was labored.

There was a deafening silence in the room for a moment. Alec stood at the foot of the bed, gazing at the maid who seemed no different from Lauren in his eyes. With the woman in his bed, he felt a strong urge to touch her and hold her in his arms.

He was clouded by anger, thinking that the woman was merely trying to replicate Lauren, which led him to almost kill her. He didn’t want anyone disrespecting Lauren, and he would never tolerate such an act.

But after Anthony mentioned sensing Lauren’s energy in the castle, Alec began to believe that perhaps a miracle happened. Perhaps the deities had decided to return Lauren to him for some reason.

"I can sense a strong spell binding her soul," Anthony broke the silence.

Alec’s eyes snapped to the sage, his brows furrowing.

"Her memories and magic are sealed, and the spell was also trying to conceal her true identity."

Alec couldn’t hide his shock.

Matthias, who was standing by the door, had his jaw dropped.

"What are you trying to say, Anthony?" Alec’s voice trembled. His emotions were all over the place, and he felt like he was about to explode.

"I have met Lauren before, so I know how her energy feels, and I am sure it is her. And from what I’ve said, her memories and magic are sealed by a spell, which may also be the reason why you cannot smell her original scent."

Alec’s ears rang with a deafening explosion, and a bright, blinding light filled his vision. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Anthony was a sage, and he had always trusted his abilities. If he had confirmed that this maid, whom he had thought to be an impostor, was actually Lauren, it couldn’t be wrong.

Alec didn’t know how it was possible for Lauren to come back. He had witnessed her body turning to ashes, leaving no trace behind. But now that Anthony had confirmed it himself, he couldn’t care less about how it happened.

All he cared about was that Lauren was finally back in his arms, and he wouldn’t allow anyone to tear them apart ever again. Not even herself.

"I’m not sure what kind of spell sealed her memories and magic yet, but I’m sure I can find a way to discover it," Anthony said, reading the question in Alec’s eyes.

"Fortunately, there is no sorcery binding her soul, so it is certain that she hasn’t returned through the use of sorcery. But King Alec, I may have the skills to determine the spell used, but I can’t guarantee a way to lift it. It might take a while for her memories to return, or they may never return at all."

Alec remained motionless as he stared at Lauren. His eyes were bloodshot, but it wasn’t anger filling his grey orbs. It was longing, happiness, and endless affection that he could no longer contain.

With or without memories, he would accept Lauren with all his heart.
