Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord
Chapter 156: Spell of Replication

Chapter 156: Spell of Replication

Lauren stared at Alec in awe. He sounded so evil and cruel... and she felt guilty that it made her heart flutter.

Darkness followed Alec like a shadow. It was a part of him, and she found it ironic that for her, his presence was as warm as the sun. His eyes were grim and soulless but whenever his gaze fell on her, they became gentle and tamed. He exuded violence and dominance, but every time they were together, he was giving her power to rule over him.

From the start, he never hid anything from her. He showed her all his sides, the good and the bad. And she knew it was not an easy thing to do.

The longer she stared at him, the more her heart hurt.

Here was the man willing to give her all the love she deserved... only that she didn’t know if she even know how to love someone properly.

The way Alec’s thumb ran over her cheek gently while his palm was around her jaw gave her a soothing feeling. He was leaning on the table, almost sitting on it while she remained on her chair. His other hand was on the back of her chair as he crouched a bit so their gazes could meet.

"You should understand that you are my everything now, Lauren. If anything happens to you, everyone will receive my ire. I will burn down all the places I could drag to hell with me. So you should think twice about giving up your life if you don’t want me to burn everyone else. The world is your responsibility now," he looked so serious with his threat.

"That is... unfair," she said breathily when his thumb caressed her bottom lip.

"Has the world ever been?"

She was a little disappointed when Alec’s thumb left her lip. He went back on his seat and asked, "The priestess you mentioned. Did you meet her again? Perhaps she knows more about your condition."

"No. When I returned the next day, I found out she was a priestess of the church some years ago. She was long dead."

"I didn’t expect that."

"I didn’t expect it too." She was really surprised when she heard it from the vicar and was even more surprised when she saw the portrait of the priestess. "I told the vicar that I saw her. He said that he knew her soul visits sometimes to give guidance to the people who come the church. She didn’t give me any guidance though."

"I know a skilled elder mage in Acheron. He is a trusted acquaintance of mine so you don’t need to worry about telling him your condition. Let’s see if he can be of help."

"We will go to Acheron? But a King cannot leave, Alec. What about the court...?"

"Is that more important than your well-being? I don’t think so."

Was he serious?

Lauren’s lips parted but before she could begin with her laments, someone knocked on the door. They heard Matthias saying that a special visitor arrived.

"I will deal with it, don’t worry. For now, let’s meet our guest before going to Acheron," Alec stood and offered a hand to her.

Lauren had no idea what Alec was planning but it seemed like she could do nothing about it. His decisions, especially when it was related to her, were always absolute.

When they arrived at the tearoom where the said special guest was waiting, Lauren was surprised when she saw Vincent sipping his hot tea. His gentle expression turned sour when his gaze drifted to Alec. However, the frown was quickly covered with a sweet smile when he looked at Lauren.

A man full of mischief... sounds really dangerous, Lauren said in her mind as she smiled back at the lord.

"The weather in your land is quite nice, I must say. Nice seeing you again, Queen Lauren. You look a little pale. Must be caused by the winter."

They went to the table. Lauren took the seat Alec pulled for her. He sat beside her and Vincent sat across them.

"I appreciate your efforts of coming all the way here to my request." Alec poured tea for Lauren. He told Matthias to give them privacy so not a single maid was in the tearoom.

"Nah, don’t make it sound like I am your submissive little pet, King Alec. I came because I know I can get something in return. Let’s say I am doing business right now."

Lauren remained silent, but with where the talk was heading, she could see that Vincent didn’t visit at leisure. Alec asked him to come. She was surprised because the last time Vincent was in the castle, Alec was very eager to get rid of him.

"You know the spell of replication, right?"

Spell of replication... Lauren was well-versed in different kinds of spells even though she wasn’t skilled enough to master them. And this one, it was one of the spells that only a very few could do. It was a spell that would allow the caster to be a replica of someone. An imitation that won’t fail anyone’s eye.

"Lauren and I will leave for a few days. There is something urgent we need to do. As the king, I cannot disappear for days. So you will stay here and pretend as me. Preside court meetings and do what a king needs to do. You are a royal blood who works for the Acheron court, I’m sure you know how it works."

It wasn’t just Vincent who was caught off guard by Alec’s request. Lauren, too, was stunned. Did he just ask someone to play as his imposter?

"Are you serious?" Vincent chuckled, amused by Alec’s request. "You should know that if someone finds out, we are both dead, right?"

"Alec..." Lauren tried to speak but Vincent already nodded in agreement.

"Alright. I shall do my best to be your imposter. Just make sure I will receive the compensation I want."

Vincent looked at Lauren. He didn’t know what important matter they had to do outside the castle, but Alec rarely asked for help. And he had a feeling that it must have something to do with his dear wife.
