Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord
Chapter 131: Not an Option

Chapter 131: Not an Option

"This discussion is done. I don’t see any relevance of this to our partnership. I don’t care about your feelings whatever it is," Lauren said the words firmly as her heart hammered in her chest.

She could not tell if Alec was joking but a part of her could see a foreign emotion in his eyes as they stared at each other. His anger was still evident, but something else was there, and it was rather gentle and warm.

"I don’t care if it’s true that you fell for me or if you are just playing. I believe it’s out of my business. Now let me go!" She tried to pull her wrists from his grip but he pinned them on his chest and didn’t give her any chance to escape.

"What on earth are you doing?"

"I’m not playing with you, Lauren. I don’t play with women at all. I fuck them and leave." His dark tone made her stop struggling.

Her brow shot up sarcastically.

"If that is what you do, then why don’t you do the same to me? Leave me alone once you are done using me. I don’t need emotional attachments, Everston. I risked my life having a deal with you because I know I will have my freedom in the end. What happened with your rule?" She smirked. "Are you not ashamed that you ate your words?"

"Why should I? Doesn’t one take pride in being true to himself?" Now he spoke like he was the most righteous man in the world.

"And to answer your first question," he inched closer until his face was half an inch away. His lips curved into a playful smirk when he noticed how her heart leaped. "Leaving you alone is not an option for me. I did say I only fuck and leave, but that is not applicable to you."

Lauren could feel her insides burning. She was at a loss for words. She was usually eloquent and always knew what to say but for that moment, she just stared at his dark orbs threatening to drown her sanity.

"Your Majesty, the council and the ministers are waiting for you in the court," said Matthias outside the room.

Alec was reluctant on leaving but in the end, he straightened his back and let her go. He stepped back, giving her a quizzical look as if he was weighing her reaction.

"Don’t leave the castle and take a rest for today. Let’s talk again later," he said and stayed for a moment as if he was waiting for her to say something. Realizing that she had nothing to say to him, he scanned her one last time to make sure she was fine before turning away.

When she was left alone, Lauren slumped on the bed with a grim face. A lot of unexpected things happened recently but among them, Alec’s confession hit her the hardest.

Did he really just admit that he fell in love with her? Thinking about Alec’s personality, it sounded almost impossible. He was the kind who never had a romantic relationship with anyone because he was not capable of feeling such deep affection. So how the hell did it happen?

Refusing to believe it, Lauren began to think that Alec must have mistaken his lust and attraction for love. The first time they danced, which was the night he asked her hand for marriage, he made it clear that he doesn’t do love. He never loved a woman so how did he know it was love? Perhaps he had grown fond of her somehow for the months they spent together, which seemed reasonable, but his feelings could not be that deep.

Instead of staying in bed the rest of the day, Lauren went out and made her way to the courtroom where the council and ministers were discussing the tragedy at Haystone’s. She was too occupied with the thoughts of Alec that she forgot the bigger problem.

They stopped talking when she entered. Alec only looked at her as she walked towards him.

"Queen Lauren," the councilmen and ministers bowed. But the grim faces of most let her know that her presence was not needed. As the queen, she was obliged to support the king but meddling with court affairs was not part of it.

The ministers expected Alec to instruct Lauren to leave the courtroom as they were discussing an important matter, but Alec just let her sit beside his throne without a word of contempt.

"I believe you are discussing what transpired at Haystone’s mansion today. I came to give a piece of information that might be of help." Lauren checked the ministers and found a face was missing. Minister Haystone was not present. Probably cleaning the mess in his mansion.

"We heard you also attended the tea party, Queen Lauren. Were you not harmed?" Minister Samuel asked.

"I am fine. I was with some royal guards."

"So, what piece of information do you want to share with us, Your Majesty?" Council Chief Lionel asked.

"Jasper Owens is one of the rebels. He is one of the people behind the corruption of humans at Haystone’s. If you haven’t heard of the man, he is Lord Owens’ son."

Alec watched Lauren’s critical eyes scrutinize the faces of the people in the court. He immediately knew that she did not intend to inform the council and ministers about Jasper Owens to share her knowledge, but to see how they would react. He had been investigating some ministers and found suspicious ones, but he hadn’t found proof of their connection to the rebels.

"If I may ask, why are you certain that Mr. Owens is working with the rebels?" An old minister asked.

"Because we talked. Let’s say we had private matters to discuss. And before the humans in the tea party began to run wild, he asked me if I could guess how many human hearts would stop beating. That is enough proof that he knew what was going to happen."

"Private matters to discuss?" Alec echoed in a low voice as if it was what mattered the most in everything she said.

Lauren subtly glared at him before giving her attention back to the council and ministers.
