Chapter 718 - 718 22 Egg-laying Leopard_2

718: Chapter 22, Egg-laying Leopard_2 718: Chapter 22, Egg-laying Leopard_2 …

Early in the morning, the radiant sunshine poured over the world, and Hudson excitedly hurried to the Magical Beast Incubation Base.

Today is a good day, the impregnated magical beasts have started to produce.

Even though they are producing eggs, it doesn’t affect everyone’s good mood at all.

Looking at the three mutated oversized gryphon eggs in the nest, Hudson could very much understand the feelings of the mother gryphon lying on the ground.

Despite their low intelligence, as magical beasts, they still have memory.

As a gryphon with birthing experience, she could recognize her own eggs.

Compared to the previous nests containing over a dozen eggs, looking at the three oversized, color-changed eggs, what on earth are these?

If the Gryphon King sees this, she would not be spared.

Worse, she might be driven out of the gryphon group, henceforth doomed to a life of solitary wandering!

“The quality of these three eggs is very good.

The hatchlings, at the worst, will be Third Order Magical Beasts.

With some luck, they could even rank up to fourth, fifth, or sixth order.

I have to admit that the Dragon Race’s bloodline is powerful.

The mother gryphon on the ground is just a Second Order Magical Beast, but a single mating has greatly improved the potential of their offspring.

However, I don’t know what the offspring will look like when they hatch.

This kind of hybrid is very likely to undergo mutations.

Even if they are born from the same batch, it’s possible for three different kinds of magical beasts to be born!”

Listening to the old magician’s lament, Hudson was rendered speechless.

He wished he would tell the details.

Leaving half of the story untold like this, one could easily be attacked in the dark when they least expect it.

However, it seems he had seen the portrait of this old man once in the Royal Library.

As one of the few Great Sorcerers in the Alpha Kingdom who are known to the public, he was just a step away from the legendary Sanctuary.

Forget it, let’s give this old man a break for now.

The only ones in the Mountain Domain who have the strength to attack this old man by surprise are Hudson’s dragon and bear.

If anyone attacks this man within his territory, the word ‘culprit’ would almost as if be written brilliantly on Hudson’s forehead.

His disciples and descendants would seek out Hudson, and the situation would not end well.

“Honored Magician Robert, we all know that different magical beasts are prone to mutations when they reproduce.

But how can we make them maintain the same form and become the same species?”

Hudson asked with concern.

All our hard work is not for the sake of diversifying the magical beast groups.

A mix-and-match of all sorts of magical beast mounts are simply not usable for forming legions.

Depending purely on chance, and luck to birth a uniform group requires too much investment of resources and energy.

It’s simply beyond our capacity to bear.

Fortunately, there’s magic in this world, and it’s completely feasible to use extraordinary power to affect the direction of species mutation.

“This matter is simple.

You just need to soak these three eggs in a specially made potion for the same amount of time.

The magical beasts that are hatched will be of the same species.

If you get similar eggs in the future, you can take the same action.

As long as they are soaked for the same amount of time, the hatched magical beasts will be of the same species.

However, everything has two sides.

While the magic potion changes the direction of the magical beast juvenile’s mutation, it also significantly weakens the growth potential of the juvenile beast.

A naturally mutated sub-dragon magical beast has at least a one-third chance of producing a Fourth Order or higher magical beast.

But under the influence of the magic potion, all hatched juveniles are Third Order Magical Beasts.

With the artificial cultivation afterward, which weakens the original wildness of the magical beasts, the chances of breaking the bloodline limit in the future are extremely low.”

Robert emphasized with a serious tone.

It’s clear that he supports letting the juveniles mutate freely, but sadly, he doesn’t have the final say in this matter.

Looking at the magical beast legions owned by the various strong powers on this continent, and seeing that the levels of the equipped magical beasts are generally not high, it’s clear what choices have been made.

If given the choice, everyone would want their magical beast mounts to be more powerful.

But magical beasts above the fourth order have a certain degree of intelligence.

If you want to force growth with potions, you might incite a beast revolt.

In the eyes of the magical beasts, such growth-stunting and lifespan-damaging potions are as potent as lethal poison.

It’s not that there aren’t potions which could force the growth of magical beasts without side effects.

However, the required raw materials for these are almost extinct on the continent.

The manufacturing process is horribly complicated, effectively making mass production impossible.

“Since Magician Robert has proposed a different hatching solution, I suggest changing our previous juvenile distribution plan to direct distribution of magical beast eggs.

The exact method of incubation is to be determined by them individually, to save the necessity of starting another dispute over it.

However, the mother beast must unconditionally assist with the incubation until it’s completed – only then will the previous agreement be fulfilled!”

Viscount Rakel stated calmly.

Representing the Moxi Duchy, Rakel was a paradigm of how war can alter fate.

The aftermath of a major war had successfully assured him his place as the successor to the title.

Once again it was proven that the victor isn’t necessarily the strongest, but certainly the one capable of surviving until the end.

Cooperating well with Hudson, this crucial task fell directly onto him.

The suggestion he made at the moment wasn’t about stirring conflict, but rather to ensure that the Magic Beast Legion plan would proceed smoothly without any more changes.

As soon as his words were spoken, the room surged with activity.

Delegates from all major powers immediately began debating.

Some supported, others opposed.

But on the whole, supporters outnumbered detractors.

No matter how the distribution was made, the agreed-upon proportions remained unchanged and so everyone’s core interests would not be affected.

Deciding one’s own fate is always better than letting someone else decide.

The best of their respective factions present there could not help carrying a touch of hubris deep within their bones.

Seeing the eager expressions of the crowd, Hudson knew someone had been swindled by that old chap Robert.

Avoiding magic potions and allowing beast eggs to naturally incubate invoked boundless possibilities, but also ushered in endless risks.

If it’s to enhance a Noble Lord’s mount, naturally, the more potent Sub-dragon beast would be ideal.

But if the intention is to build a Magic Beast Legion, such thoughts better be abandoned early!

The high-quality Sub-dragon beasts would likely still be in their growth phase before anyone else’s Magic Beast Legion reached combat readiness.

Despite knowing this, Hudson had no intention of warning them.

He thought that many of the nobles would have similar notions, and every one fooled counted as one less.

If such a fool met his doom, it would just decrease the number of potential rivals.

Competition among nobles was always this plain and straightforward.

Once a good precedent was set, in the days that followed all the expectant mother beasts began birthing offspring successively.

The only problem was that production had decreased dramatically; even the prolific gryphons, at most, would only lay four eggs in one hatch, and with bad luck, might only produce a single one.

“What, a Black Stone Mountain Leopard actually laid an egg?”

Hudson asked in surprise.

It wasn’t that he was overly surprised.

Black Stone Mountain Leopards were mammals and their offspring were typically born directly as cubs, but this time an egg was produced!

Laying an egg wasn’t a big deal, even giant dragons hatched from eggs.

Under the dominant influence of the giant dragon genes, a shift in the mode of reproduction was feasible.

The problem was, being a mammal, would this Black Stone Mountain Leopard know how to incubate eggs?

The mother leopard wouldn’t incubate, and that rubbish dragon Maxim definitely wouldn’t incubate either.

Neither parent would incubate the eggs, so would they have to find some unfortunate bird to play the role of the leftover-receiver?

Or use magic technology to artificially help the leopard incubate the egg?

This situation wouldn’t be a one-off.

Many more mammalian magical beasts would be laying eggs during the following reproduction processes.

Fortunately, he had a group of collaborators to rely on, or else they would have been left dumbfounded with this special circumstance.

“Yes, Count.

As soon as the eggs were laid by the Black Stone Mountain Leopard, they drew the attention of numerous magicians.

Right now they are conducting research around those two eggs!”

Tom spoke excitedly.

Clearly, those two special eggs held quite an attraction for him as well.
