Chapter 700 - 700 16 The Inspiring Spy_2

700: Chapter 16, The Inspiring Spy_2 700: Chapter 16, The Inspiring Spy_2 As an emerging Major Noble, the Koslow family was naturally the focus of many eyes.

Despite seemingly amicable relationships with everyone currently, if they were to expose any fatal weaknesses, they would be instantly targeted.

Who can blame them?

They were too young and rose too rapidly.

If other powers weren’t wary, that would be the real problem.

Only the liaisons Hudson had established during the war has prevented any immediate actions against them.

No one wanted the reputation of being ungrateful so soon after Hudson had saved many of them.

Furthermore, they had no conflicts of interest with most of the nobility.

Why would they stick their necks out and start a fight that benefits other families?

The families with whom they did have a conflict of interest were the ones that suffered severe losses during the war and didn’t have the energy or time to bother with the Koslows.

They had only just entered a period of peaceful development.

Instead of focusing on expanding and stabilizing their territory and power, meddling in affairs that might draw them into further conflicts would be like rushing towards self-destruction.

Hudson was in a reflective mood, while the Mountain Domain was buzzing with activity.

Ever since his grand wedding, the Koslow Clan was in a flurry of marriages with various other noble families.

Even though many of these were only peripheral members of the family that had not held a title for generations, these matches still carried the prestige of the Koslow name.

Of course, there was a certain threshold to participate in these marriages; one had to be at least a knight and show a certain degree of potential.

If one hadn’t accomplished anything, Baron Redman, burdened by the sheer size of the Koslow Clan, didn’t have the time to arrange marriages for them.

Even if he wanted to, he couldn’t.

Those would not be marriages, but rather declarations of war.

Unless it was a widow or widower remarrying, both parties in a marriage had to be of noble birth, that was a basic principle.

As children of a large family, as long as they became knights, they could have a knight’s title.

For someone like Hudson, an Earl, he had the right to bestow titles to the lower nobility.

These titled individuals, however, were in service to Major Nobles like him.

Unless they did something truly exceptional, there was no hope of obtaining land.

Hudson was not about to divide his own territories to give to his subordinates.

Nor was it just Hudson.

All of the Major Nobles across the Continent acted the same way.

Those who split their domains recklessly were often eliminated from the Noble World through its competitive processes.

Jonathan, constantly arranging marriages for the younger members of the clan, had practically become a matchmaker.

Although he was busy, seeing the prosperity of his family brought him joy.

But his joy did not last long and eventually disappeared.

Under the notion of matching social status, the clan’s younger members were all able to find suitable marriage partners, except for his two youngest sons.

Originally there were three, but one of them was kicked out of the house early and thus was overlooked by him.

The remaining two, despite their young age, were left unsought—which felt rather embarrassing.

Even if the family wanted to take the initiative, there were no suitable targets.

Theoretically, as Direct Family Members of the Koslow family and younger brothers of the Earl, they could have considered joining with a Major Noble family.

Regrettably, the two sons’ status was awkward—they not only shared a different mother with Hudson, but their mother was also not of noble birth.

This one fact alone has severed any possibility of them joining a Major Noble family through marriage.

After all, everyone had a reputation to uphold in their circles, and the current status of the Koslow family was not enough to make them let go of their pride.

Not only did they have no hopes of joining a Major Noble family, but even the Intermediate Aristocracy were not interested.

Even when Jonathan showed an intention to form connections, they only offered their distant relatives.

After all, they would conduct an investigation before marriage.

After learning about the two’s relationship with Hudson, the Family Head, they were automatically deemed unfit for marriage.

Smaller nobles weren’t that picky, but Baron Redman wasn’t thrilled about the idea.

To be precise, it was Mrs.

Anna who wasn’t.

She whispered into his ear every day.

“Well, Sir?”

Hearing the query, Redman replied with annoyance, “What else could it be?

We’ve been rejected again!

Forget it, let’s discuss this a few years later.

Their age is not a big issue, a delay of several years won’t hurt.

I’m usually very busy.

You should encourage them to practice when you’re not.

If they manage to become Great Knights before the age of twenty, there will be no shortage of good marriage proposals.”

Being repeatedly rejected, Jonathan had stopped hoping any time soon for his two younger sons’ marriages.

The so-called, “becoming a Great Knight before twenty” was pure fantasy.

Throughout the entire history of the Koslow family, only Hudson stood out as an exception.

No matter where you looked, those with great talent for cultivation were always a minority.

The majority were just ordinary people.

“Sir, I will make sure they practice, but…”

Before Mrs.

Anna could finish, Baron Redman interrupted,”Enough of the ifs and buts, nothing in this world is perfect.

If it’s not possible, then lower the standard.

The eldest and the second did not aim high, why can’t we apply the same to these two!”

Clearly, in Redman’s view, his three older sons carried more weight.

Even though he pampered his younger sons more than the older ones, that was only possible when he wasn’t too busy.

Unless the two younger ones achieved something notable, it’s hard to change this status quo.
