Chapter 491 - 491 81 A Major Victory in Strategic Terms_1
491: Chapter 81, A Major Victory in Strategic Terms_1 491: Chapter 81, A Major Victory in Strategic Terms_1 When enemies meet, the hostility is downright intense.
Hudson’s name resounded strongly within the Orc Empire and had dominated the bounty listings for many days now.
Despite keeping a low profile, he had attracted multiple waves of assassins.
Perhaps to lure more killers into the fold, or perhaps due to misinformation, the listing had omitted any mention of the Earth Bear.
As a result, a group of hapless assassins unwittingly stumbled into the Bear’s territory, only to be dragged out by the young bear itself and used as playthings before they could even process what was happening.
In reality, the success rate of assassinating enemy leaders has always been incredibly low.
For cautious kings like Hudson who always move with a big army, assassins rarely even get the chance to get close.
Successful assassinations usually involve either blending into the commander’s surroundings or launching an ambush when they’re isolated.
The Alpha Kingdom learned this lesson the hard way.
By now, those beside Master Hudson were all trusted guards of his own, without even a single maid in sight, let alone allowing any Orcs to infiltrate his inner circle.
…
“Your Highness, the Human Cavalry is approaching.
The leader appears to be that bastard Hudson.
Let me lead a squad out to give them a taste of our might!”
Captain Greg stepped forward to volunteer himself.
From his fiercely glowing Bimon eyes, one could see his deep hatred for Hudson.
“Very well.
You will lead the charge.
Send out the command to open the camp gates and launch an attack with the full force of our troops!”
Prince Butzweig decreed solemnly.
In the Bimon Tribe language, there is no word for “defend”, especially during an encounter battle in the wilderness.
There is no room for retreat.
Their camp setup reflects this as it isn’t one built for defense.
The key point being that their current circumstances do not allow for a defensive stance.
Not only is the Human Cavalry already at their doorstep, the infantry troops may join them any moment now.
If they restrict themselves within the camp, succumbing to the disadvantage of losing the Cavalry’s high mobility, it would only be a matter of time before the entire army is wiped out.
As the distance between the two formidable forces continues to close, a clash of epic proportions is about to unfold in this vast wilderness.
“Crossbowmen, ready your crossbows and take aim at will.
Don’t go easy on the Bimons!”
Hudson ordered without a single regard for decency.
For this battle, he had brought with him all of the Moxi People’s miniature crossbows, especially the magic ones that are capable of piercing through Heavy Cavalry Armor.
“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…”
The sound of arrows whistling through the air was heard, the vanguard Bimon Cavalry was nearly turned into a sieve.
The regiment commander, Greg, who was leading the charge didn’t even have time to react before he was sent off to meet the Beast God.
Upon seeing this, Prince Butzweig’s face paled considerably.
It was obviously a breach of contract, the Cavalry duel had turned into a technological warfare with the presence of magic technology.
What worried him more was the power of these unimpressive miniature magic crossbows synchronising together, forming a powerful tide.
If going forward, every Human cavalry holds a pair of magic crossbows, how are the Bimon Cavalry going to compete on the battlefield?
Should they continue to thicken their armor to enhance the soldiers’ defensive power?
Or replace regular armor with high-protection Magic Armor?
Either of these choices would be devastating for the Bimon Tribe.
Additional armor weight would only decrease mobility.
While Magic Armor is great in every aspect, its manufacturing cost is high and production capacity is low.
As each piece is handcrafted by an Alchemist Master, mass production is out of the question.
An arrow whizzing overhead brought Prince Butzweig back to reality.
The fate of the Bimon Tribe can be saved for later consideration.
The most important task at hand was to overcome the current crisis.
After suffering hundreds of Cavalry losses, the two massive forces finally came face to face, immediately resulting in a scene of men and beasts falling in mountains and rows.
“Human Knight Legion!”
The thought had barely crossed Prince Butzweig’s mind when he abandoned the idea of defeating the Cavalry before him.
It couldn’t be helped; enemy forces equally mounted on war horses did not exhibit any exterior differences.
Until the battle started, it was very difficult to tell the Knight Legion apart from the Cavalry Corps.
Hudson was smart to have chosen the Knight Legion to lead the charge.
In the brute force collision on the battlefield, the Bimon Cavalry only managed to hold a slight upper hand.
However, this advantage didn’t cover up their numerical inferiority.
After a full frontal confrontation, a few hundred more Bimon Cavalry were laid down.
The number of fallen Human Cavalry was even higher.
However, their numerical superiority made these losses seems inconsequential.
The big troop turned their horses around.
Hudson shouted “Attack!” and the Knight Legion charged again, with countless Cavalry hot on their heels.
A new round of power confrontations kicked off, the battle scene became even bloodier.
As savagery clashed with civilization, the latter held the upper hand at this moment.
After two rounds of intense confrontations, coupled with the initial hundreds of losses from the arrow rain, the Bimon Cavalry’s losses exceeded a thousand.
Upon seeing this, Prince Butzweig, who was hidden among the troops, muttered “This is bad!” under his breath.
Although he wished to behead Hudson, reality dictated that reason prevailed.
After the second round of confrontation, he didn’t bother turning back.
He looked at his soldiers and ordered: “Follow me, retreat!”
The prince seemed to be leading the way without looking back, leaving the battleground with his troops.
By the time Hudson had turned around, the distance between both sides had been stretched into a few hundred meters.
Looking at the fleeing Bimon Cavalry, Hudson felt an odd sense of unreality.
He didn’t cheat this time around.
Throughout the battle, Mr.
Belsden had been blissfully asleep on his shoulder.
