Chapter 969 - 969 957 Set Up the Son
Chapter 969: Chapter 957: Set Up the Son Chapter 969: Chapter 957: Set Up the Son Hearing the voice behind him, the raven-haired boy’s mouth twitched, and then he pretended not to hear, continuing his training as if the guy behind him didn’t exist.
“Aine, it’s no use not talking. I’m telling you, that young lady’s butler came looking for me again. Her family offered me 300,000 as compensation for me to keep you properly disciplined and to make sure you stop associating with their young lady!”
“So, you accepted?” Aine didn’t turn around, but instead spoke in a somewhat somber tone.
“Accept my ass. I can’t do it, and I certainly don’t have the time to be watching you all day long. If you’re determined to meet with that young lady, I can’t stop you!”
“Hmm!”
“Aine, I know that young lady Salina is very beautiful and exerts a strong attraction on you. Although she is young now, I can tell that she is bound to become a lady of exceptional grace and beauty when she grows up. Coupled with her family background and talent, she is as close to perfection as a woman can get.
But Aine, she’s too good for you. No matter how hard you work in this lifetime, you’ll never be good enough for her. So, it’s better for you to give up sooner rather than later. Breaking off your relationship with her early will be better for both you and her.”
“…” Aine couldn’t be bothered to deal with his father. This was his wife; why should he give her up?
“I know you are resentful, but what can we do? A couple of generations ago, our family was wealthy. But your grandfather squandered the fortune that your great-grandfather had left, and he also turned me into a waste in the process.
If it weren’t for your grandfather’s prodigality, you might have had some hope. So, if you ever feel indignant, don’t curse me – curse your grandfather! I, too, was ruined by him.”
“…” Aine still ignored the man behind him. Ancestors, parents – complaining was useless. He had to rely on himself; it was just his bad luck.
“Oh, and before you curse your grandfather, curse yourself as well, for being such a waste! Your Star adaptability is only 3%; you’ve set a new low for our clan’s history. You’re really talented, alright! Single-handedly dragging down the entire clan’s rating!”
Upon hearing this assessment, Aine suddenly turned, staring intently at his father, the owner of his current body, suppressing the impulse to throw the barbell in his hands at him.
Low Star talent, and they blame him? Did he get to choose this talent? It was because of this abysmally low talent that he had suffered so many odd glances over the years! Fortunately, he had a strong mentality and didn’t care about the outside world’s stares. If he had been a child born and bred on Earth, he might have become reclusive already.
But such treatment was making Aine extremely frustrated. For the first time, he was discriminated against for having low talent; he had never imagined that one day he would be looked down upon for such a worthless reason.
“Aine, what are you thinking of doing? Remember, I am your father. Calm down!” Seeing his son, young but already muscular, the middle-aged man inside the decrepit building took a few steps back, his eyes showing a hint of wariness.
“I know you’ve wanted to hit me for a long time now, but think it through! The federal law has already stipulated that it is a crime for a son to hit his father! If you dare to lay a hand on me, you’ll be sent to the labor reform!”
“Don’t touch my things again!” Aine gritted his teeth as he spoke to the man who had deceived him for nearly ten years.
“Cough, I didn’t want to, but I really had no money for food!”
“In my room, there’s 3,000 in the drawer of the bedside table. You can take half!”
Aine looked sternly at his father, “But you are not to take a single penny more. The rest is for my living expenses. If you dare to take more, you won’t get a dime from the scholarship I earn at school!”
“Eh, alright!” The man happily climbed the stairs upon hearing his son’s words.
…
Meanwhile, a loud cry rang out in a private hospital, followed by a series of cheers.
“Mr. Douglas! Congratulations, you now have a very healthy son!”
In the birthing room, a sweet-looking little nurse came out holding a baby, who lay quietly in a swaddle, curiously looking around. She happily addressed a man who was waiting anxiously outside the delivery room.
“Congratulations can wait until my son’s Star talent has been tested,” said the man as he saw his son born safely, his face showing no sign of joy. Instead, he gestured to his secretary, who had been waiting for a while, to go over and take the newly born child.
“Mr. Douglas, if you want to test your son’s talent, I suggest you wait until he is three years old. Testing his talent now is not very good for him,” said a female doctor, who had just finished the delivery, upon seeing this and immediately spoke out against it.
“Madam, this doesn’t seem to be within your professional purview, and I’ve never heard that Star talent testing causes any permanent harm to an infant!”
Hearing the female doctor’s words, the young and beautiful female secretary also smiled and then took the baby from the nurse’s arms with a possessive gesture.
“Genetic talent testing indeed won’t cause permanent damage to infants, but newborn babies are very sensitive. Such talent testing will cause them much pain!” Seeing the child being taken away, out of professional ethics, the female doctor still offered a reminder.
“How could the offspring of the Douglas family fear pain?” The man who had been waiting outside the delivery room for a long time responded indifferently, then left with the secretary who was carrying the child.
“These people from the Great families are so cold-hearted!” The young nurse who had been all smiles earlier suddenly showed dissatisfaction on her face as she watched the pair depart one after the other.
She turned to look back at the delivery room behind her. The child’s mother was still lying inside, yet not a single person had inquired about her condition. The only father who came to wait was just there to take the child for the testing.
“It’s normal for people from the Great families to act this way. Most of them have an extremely weak sense of familial affection. They only see benefits. You’ll see, this child, who has just been taken for testing right after birth, will have a relatively easy life if his Star talent meets the standard. And his mother will benefit from it too, likely never worrying about material needs again in her lifetime.”
“What if that child’s Star talent doesn’t meet the standard?”
“In a better scenario, the Douglas would support him, making him a breeding machine. In a worse scenario, he’ll be thrown into the orphanage, though practically no clan does this anymore!”
“And if that child exceeds the standards? Say his adaptability is over 80%?”
“It’s simple. The entire Douglas would mobilize all resources to nurture him, and he’d become one of the sought-after big figures in our country. However, such super geniuses are few and far between in our entire nation!”
“It must be nice to be born into a Great family,” the young nurse exclaimed sincerely, “By the way, what are the standards for these Great family scions to meet the Star talent?”
“Adaptability of 60%!”
“Ah!”
…
Muria scrutinized his surroundings. From his initial observation, the environment seemed relatively safe for him and did not pose an immediate threat to his life.
However, Muria noticed that the identity of his Reincarnated Body was somewhat special. It wasn’t that of a commoner, but it didn’t seem to be very high either.
Because he saw the man walking in front of the woman holding him, probably his father in this Reincarnated Body, put on a modest smile upon entering a huge egg-shaped building.
Along the way, he maintained a courteous and gentle demeanor towards everyone, even showing a pleasing expression when facing several other parents carrying their infants.
Although Muria had yet to grasp the language of this world, he could still understand their facial expressions. From this, he concluded that his father held some status but not a high one.
And now it seemed he was being taken for some kind of testing. Judging by the urgency with which he was brought to this peculiar structure right after birth, the test was very important to him—and presumably just as important to Muria himself!
“Aux, is this your child?” In a testing room filled with special apparatus, an old academic in a white coat looked at the man in front of him and the baby brought before him, furrowing his brows slightly.
“Yes, this is my son,” Aux replied with a smile.
“He’s just been born, isn’t he? The amniotic fluid hasn’t even been wiped off! Are you in such a rush?”
“Heh, Doctor, please bear with us. I just want to confirm my son’s talent early on.”
After speaking, Aux tilted his head slightly, signaling to his secretary. The secretary who was holding Muria’s Reincarnated Body understood the gesture and opened up the swaddling clothes, revealing a small card.
“Alright, I’ve been a father too, so I understand how you feel!” Seeing the card, the old academic raised his eyebrows, then took Muria from the secretary and discreetly pocketed the card.
After a series of complex tests, the old academic held Muria before Aux,
“Not bad, Star talent 64.68%! It meets the standard, much better than you did!”
“Is there a possibility of error?” Aux asked with a hint of hope.
“What do you think?”
