Chapter 895: Chapter 883: Could My Son Possibly Become a College Student? Chapter 895: Chapter 883: Could My Son Possibly Become a College Student? “Aeolus, I never expected that our first mission as law enforcers would be something like this!” Eddy, also clad in the pure white uniform of the enforcers, complained as he looked at Aeolus leading the way.

“Haven’t they already told us? This is just an adaptability mission, and later it’ll be replaced with what you guys desire, to fight against those criminals who have violated the Legal Code,” Aeolus said with a smile, comforting his companion who could barely be considered a childhood friend, the Dragon Girl.

“This is the place!” Soon, amid casual conversations, Aeolus led the team to a building emanating a pink aura. With Aeolus’s performance in school, he naturally became the captain of a small law enforcement team.

A novice law enforcement team, looking at the various men entering and exiting the building, exchanged glances and showed an unmistakable look of embarrassment on their faces.

“I wouldn’t go into a place like this even if you killed me!” Dragon Girl Eddy glanced at the line of flamboyantly dressed women with professional smiles plastered on their faces standing in front of the building and expressed undisguised disgust.

“The person we’re looking for is inside.” Aeolus opened the crystal tablet in his hand, which displayed a map marker that pointed to the building in front of them, a place known for pleasure-seeking.

“What brings you here, young sirs and madams?” The presence of Aeolus and his group, who had stood in front of the establishment for a considerable time, clearly indicated they had purpose, and immediately a greasy-looking man approached them with a slick smile.

“We are from the law enforcement team, here to execute the newest decree from Xena Pus!”

“But our business isn’t illegal, is it?” Hearing that this group of young-looking, or rather, youthful, individuals claimed to be from the law enforcement team, the greasy middle-aged man rubbed his hands and did not dare underestimate them. Being able to operate such a lucrative establishment, he was naturally well-informed.

He was aware of the law enforcement team members’ backgrounds; these were geniuses who had climbed their way from elementary to high school. Any of these high school students could pose trouble for him if singled out.

“Whether or not this is illegal will naturally be investigated by others later. But we’re not here to target your business; we’re looking for a woman named Linda Kristin. Our intel indicates she works here,” Aeolus replied, frowning slightly at the man’s words but not elaborating further. According to the Xena Pus Legal Code, businesses like the one in question were heavily restricted, but not outright prohibited.

That’s because many adventurers who came from other subcontinents, among whom many were bachelors, and even among those who were married, would seek out places like the one before his eyes to relax and vent after surviving the perils and life-threatening situations of adventures.

Thus, it was impossible to fully prohibit such establishments. If one were to do so, who knows what kind of chaos these adventurers, in need of an outlet, might cause.

“Linda Kristin?” The greasy man furrowed his brow and after some thought recalled he indeed had someone by that name, but he didn’t understand why a mere ordinary prostitute could warrant such a dedicated visit from all these high school students.

“I wonder what brings you honorable ones…”

“None of your business, what’s with all the questions? Just call her out for us if she works for you!” Shouted an impatient young man standing beside Aeolus hearing the greasy middle-aged man appearing to probe for more information. He looked down on those who ran flesh trade businesses. Tolerating the man’s presence and conversation was already giving him more face than he deserved.

“Alright… alright, your honors, please wait, I will call her out immediately,” the greasy man, rebuked by a youth so much younger than himself, did not show any displeasure but instead nodded and bowed obsequiously before retreating back into the building.

Soon after, the greasy middle-aged man brought forth the woman Aeolus was looking for, right in front of the law enforcement team.

“You are Linda Kristin!” Aeolus flipped through the crystal tablet in his hand, comparing it with the thickly made-up woman standing before them, who looked somewhat cramped and uneasy. A very clear three-dimensional image emerged on the crystal tablet.

“Yes!” The woman nodded with visible nervousness, as these were big figures she wouldn’t usually even see, “May I ask, what business do you honorable ones have with me?”

“Where is your child? According to the information, you gave birth to a boy three years ago. Where is the child now?”

“You mean Vien? He’s sleeping right now,” the woman said anxiously.

“Bring him over!” Aeolus’s gaze turned toward the greasy middle-aged man standing to the side, who seemed reluctant to interfere with their conversation.

Soon, the greasy man returned to the building and not too long after came out carrying a drowsy-looking child, to whom the woman hurried over to receive her own son nervously.

“Your honor, may I know what business you have with my child?” The woman, holding her son, appeared rather uneasy, sensing that something was about to happen.

“Do you know who his father is?” Aeolus asked, following the given instructions.

“…I don’t know.” The woman was silent for a moment, and then her face flushed as she shook her head. With the kind of work she did, it was indeed very hard to confirm any accidents.

“So now, you’re raising him all by yourself? Is that right?”

“Yes!”

“In that case, I regret to inform you that as of now, by virtue of the Xena Pus Legal Code enacted by the Empire, you are stripped of your identity as a mother. You are not qualified to raise and educate the child you gave birth to.”

“What do you mean by this?” Upon hearing Aeolus’s words, the woman’s face showed fear, and she clutched her son tightly in her arms, then began to slowly step backward.

“It’s quite simple. We’re here to take your son away from you and give him a brighter future!”

“No, this is my son. What right do you have to take him away?”

“According to the Xena Pus Legal Code, the educational regulations state that to be a parent, one must have a sufficient economic foundation and must prove their qualification to properly educate the next generation. Based on your current conditions, you do not qualify to raise your son.”

“I have money, I can support my son!” the woman screamed hoarsely. Her son was her only spiritual support, the only thing that kept her going in this cruel world. Now some inexplicable people wanted to take her son away from her.

“But you can’t give your son a future,” a young man who had accompanied Aeolus suddenly spoke coldly, “If you insist on keeping your son with you, what kind of man will he grow up to be?

A lazy loafer? A thug for hire? A stray dog living life on the edge of a knife? A laborer peddling his strength on the streets? Or perhaps a lazy thief who gets by without working for it?

Being with you, your son has no future to speak of. If he comes with us, though, your son will have that glimmer of hope, the chance to be like us. Even if he can’t, it would still be better than staying by your side.”

The young man’s words, sharp as a knife, pierced deeply into the woman’s heart, halting her continued retreat, even her thoughts of fleeing the scene, as a strong struggle showed on her face.

“Oh, we haven’t introduced ourselves. We’re second-year high school students from Wanlong City! According to the Legal Code, we are here to take your son. He will then receive Resources invested by Xena Pus for his upbringing. If he has a certain Talent and applies himself, he may become like us.”

“Really? You’re not lying to me?”

“Lying to you? Do you think you and your son are worthy of us coming all the way here, seeking you out to deceive you? Do you think you’re worth it?” the young man bluntly retorted.

“Is it really possible my son could be like you?”

“Yes, he even has a one in ten thousand chance of becoming a college student!” Aeolus pursed his lips and then answered the mother’s question.

“A college student? My son could potentially become a college student?” Hearing Aeolus’s words, the woman’s face lit up with a smile. Having lived on this land for some time, she knew what a college student represented: the ruler of a city, the elite nobles, those high and unattainable.

“Yes!”

“Then, I beg you, noble sirs, take my child!” After a severe inner struggle, the woman kneeled in front of Aeolus with her drowsy child in her arms, lifting him high with both hands.

“As much as I don’t want to discourage you, I still have to say that your son’s chances of becoming a college student are virtually non-existent!” the young man beside Aeolus commented, rubbing his nose, speaking an honest truth.

“Shut up!” Aeolus glared at his teammate.

“I’m not asking for him to be a college student. I just want him to live safely, with his chest out, on this land! No matter what, it’s better than staying with me!”

With a pained smile, the woman acknowledged the harsh truth in the words of those before her. Staying with her, her son certainly wouldn’t starve, but because of her Identity, she knew without a shadow of a doubt what her son would face in the future.

“If you understand, that’s good,” Aeolus nodded, took the child handed to him, and then turned and left with the boy.

As the child was taken away, the woman collapsed onto the ground, boneless, as tears involuntarily trickled from her eyes.
