Chapter 699 - 699 691 Mad Expansion
Chapter 699: Chapter 691: Mad Expansion Chapter 699: Chapter 691: Mad Expansion Realizing that Muria was indifferent to the Black Knight Pirate Group, Gibbs felt relieved and started leading the way seriously, as any tour guide in his situation would do.
“This tavern is too small. What kind of excellent crew could we possibly recruit? Let’s try another one.” Muria commented seeing the size of the tavern, which was about the size of a stadium.
“Captain Sparrow, this is already the largest tavern on this street. If you want a bigger one, we would need to go to the central area, but recruiting crew there would be more expensive.” Gibbs responded nervously. It was clear to him that Muria was being very cautious with money, like a dragon in a legend.
“Then let’s go to the largest tavern in Blackstone Harbor, I want to recruit the best crew members.” Muria asserted with an imposing tone. Even if they were only to be pretend crew members, Muria only wanted the best. He wouldn’t settle for useless bottom scrapers among his men.
“Alright then, following your orders, great Captain.”
Under the guidance of Gibbs, Muria and the two Blazing Sky God Descendants, along with a group of Liches, arrived at the largest tavern in Blackstone Harbor. Although calling it a tavern might be a bit of a stretch. The so-called tavern was a Steel Ghost Ship, five thousand meters long from bow to stern, stationed on land. The number of undead entering and leaving surprised the Liches trailing behind Muria, their eyes gradually showing greed. Smart undead. No Lich would ever refuse more of them.
“Let’s go in and have a look.” Once Muria and his group entered, an attractive-looking undead handmaid quickly came over to greet them and ask for their requirements.
“I came to recruit crew members.” Muria informed the ghostly handmaid.
“That’s no problem, sir. Would you like a private room for recruitment?”
“One is not enough, I need ten. I want to recruit the most elite undead crew.” Muria’s behavior was like that of a nouveau riche which made the ghost handmaid exceptionally delighted. This meant she would get more commission.
“Captain, how much are you prepared to spend on recruiting crew members?”
“What’s the going rate?”
“For a Silver Rank, ordinary crew would typically require a thousand Wraith Coins per year, a gunner fifteen hundred, a navigator three thousand, the price for Gold Rank is triple that…”
“Good, the wages for the crew members I am recruiting will all be doubled. However, they have to pass an assessment to join my pirate group.” Muria set the base price for recruiting crew members.
Suddenly, the job advertisements Muria posted in the Black Soul Tavern were revealing his recruitment conditions, requirements, and the various benefits he was offering. The ghostly handmaidens going about the tavern were spreading the news to every homeless undead.
“Two thousand Wraith Coins a month, and if there’s a battle, beheading a level fetches you a reward of three hundred Wraith Coins. Only half the spoils of war need to be turned over, the other half can be kept. My god, these conditions are excellent.”
“Could it be a scam?”
“It’s posted here, how could it be a scam? Look at their recruitment conditions, they’re only asking for elites and you have to pass their interview to join.”
“What’s this pirate group? They seem so wealthy?”
“Let me see, the Black Pearl Pirate Group. Sounds rather ordinary. Let’s go, I’m going to participate in their interview now, to see if it’s difficult.”
… Somehow, Muria’s recruitment orders caused a sensation in the tavern. The self-satisfied undead rushed into the ten interview rooms Muria had rented. Who could resist the allure of money, even if they’ve died once?
However, as the interviews continued, discontented voices gradually spread throughout the tavern, cursing everywhere.
“What kind of recruitment is this? It’s way too hard! They’re not planning to let us join at all. We’re required to master a skill proficiently to be an ordinary crew, what a joke! If I had that kind of skill, why would I still be a crew member?”
“That’s an outrage, they’re just having fun at our expense! There’s no sincerity at all.”
“This Black Pearl Pirate Group is abusing us! Damn it.”
“It’s been a long time, but we’ve only recruited a few people. What’s going on?” Muria asked, looking at the nine undead in the room and frowning.
“Didn’t you say that this is the biggest undead gathering place in Blackstone Harbor? In theory, recruiting crew members should be easy. Why hasn’t much progress been made? Was my condition not sincere enough?”
“Captain, your conditions are sincere, but your requirements are too high, and there are too few undead that meet these requirements.” Gibbs replied, wiping off the sweat that didn’t exist on his forehead.
“These standards are still too high.” Muria showed a look of disdain. He just needed ten liches of the Soul Intent Level to sit in those interview rooms, play freely and recruit the excellent talents to be under his command. Anyone who seemed unfit was to be directly rejected.
However, each lich ruled over more than a million undead, and judging the potential of the undead, the liches were definitely better at it than him.
“Captain, most of the elites have already joined the pirate groups. Only a very small part are unaffiliated.”
“So that’s the way it is. The tavern candidates are all garbage. No wonder I was unable to recruit any actual elites.”
Muria revealed a look of sudden realization, but just then, a thunderous rumble came from the room next to him. As Muria’s mental power extended, he saw a group of Death Knights blocking the entrance to his recruitment room.
“The one who killed my brother, step forward yourself. Do not implicate your pirate group.” The leading undead knight, radiating a strong death spirit light, spoke in a chilling voice.
“What’s happedning?” Muria lazily approached the group of Death Knights, “I am the captain of the Black Pearl Pirate Group, Jack Sparrow. If there is a problem, come at me. Do not threaten my crew.”
“It was you who killed my younger brother.” This knight, taller than those behind him, stared fixedly at Muria, an intense murderous intent pervading the surroundings.
“Your brother? I don’t know him, I don’t recognize him,” Muria rejected it instantly, “but I just killed an undead knight who dared to block my path.”
Hearing Muria say he had killed a Death Knight just for being blocked, the surrounding undead were stunned. Such a lawless undead being in Blackstone Harbor would rank very high, because those as arrogant as him were mostly killed. Those who could survive were particularly powerful.
“You are so audacious!” The black knight who had brought a whole crowd of Death Knights to block the way, looked coldly at Muria, “Do you dare to step outside with me?”
“What, don’t you dare to fight here?”
“…” The Death Knight didn’t even respond to his obviously blatant question. Who wouldn’t know how big the background of this tavern was? The presence of such a huge Steel Ghost Ship spoke volumes about who was behind it without questioning.
“Alright, I’ll take a trip with you,” Muria turned back to look at the silent liches behind him, “anyone come with me on this.”
“It seems like you’re not a very good captain?” Seeing only a slow moving, magic robe-wearing skeleton mage coming to Muria’s side, the Death Knight mocked with no reservation.
Muria gave him a sideways glance, not saying anything. He just had a great idea. A high-ranking undead had absolute control over the undead of lower ranks. If here, a pirate group with only a few Soul Intent Level Death Knights could act so unbridled, then why couldn’t he go even further out of the ordinary?
When they stepped out of the tavern, the battle started, and then it ended, leaving the spectating undead unsatisfied. They saw that the skeleton mage who followed the so-called captain swung his magic staff, and all the Death Knights fell, as if it was a play.
“Come on, show me your ship, I want to meet your captain,” Muria went and kicked the immobilized Death Knight.
“You…ok, I’ll take you.” Seeing Muria act so arrogantly, the Death Knight agreed with the flow. He understood that he could not provoke this unidentified stranger. It was just right for his captain to deal with him.
…
Half an hour later, in a ghost ship exuding a murderous vibe, five meters long from head to tail, five Death Knights of the Soul Intent level knelt petrified in front of Muria. Behind him, a Legendary Lich released his aura without any reservation.
“Great Captain Sparrow, what are your instructions?” The Death Knight Captain knelt on the ground, asking respectfully.
“Bring me all the information about the pirate groups stationed at the Blackstone Harbor that are about the same size as yours.”
“Why are there so few?” Looking at the miserably short list of named and logoed pirate groups, Muria was extremely dissatisfied. This was far removed from what he imagined. How could Barbosa have such insignificant forces under him? This was simply preposterous. Having a few Legend Spirits serving a peak Legendary Great Lich was not strange at all.
“There are only this many in Blackstone Harbor.” The Black Knight Pirate Group’s captain watched Muria fearfully. They didn’t know what his level of power was, but any being able to make a Legendary Lich stand obediently behind him as his henchmen was certainly someone they could not afford to provoke. Perhaps he was of the same tier as Barbosa.
“From your words, it seems that there are more than one harbor in the Sea of the Dead?”
“…” The Black Knight Pirate Group’s captain detected that something was off. Wasn’t this common knowledge? However, under the pressure of the Legendary Lich, he answered honestly, “While Blackstone Harbor is the biggest harbor, it’s not the only one.”
“How many harbors are there in the Ghost Sea in total?”
“There are a total of ten harbors, sir.”
