Chapter 1416 - 1416 1378 Princess of Blood
Chapter 1416: Chapter 1378: Princess of Blood Chapter 1416: Chapter 1378: Princess of Blood The sun, on the verge of sinking below the horizon, cast its already dimming light onto the now-quiet prairie, while the darkening sky became gathering place for carrion birds, their unpleasant cries filling the air.
On the ground, the beasts that had previously been frightened away were once again converging from all directions, drawn by the smell of blood, ready to partake in a feast they would likely never witness again in their lifetimes.
“These damned beasts!”
A warrior, part of the victorious side of the war, looked up while searching for the remnants of comrades among the piled-up corpses. He cursed at the sight of the sky-darkening flock of carrion birds, which had nearly obscured the remaining light of the sunset, rendering the heavens especially ominous.
After swearing, the warrior, assigned to cleanup duty, was still not pacified. He looked around, picked up a bloodstained great bow from the ground, and drew an arrow that was slightly worn from a corpse, then bent the bow and set the arrow.
Whoosh!
The arrow turned into a black rainbow, whistling up from the ground, leaving a clearly visible trail of qi, and struck a carrion bird with a wingspan of over ten meters.
The enormous fierce bird had no time to let out a cry of agony before the arrow pierced it, its brutal impact tearing apart its body, turning it into chunks of flesh in the sky.
A thick mist of blood spread through the sky, and then, with cries of delight, the carcass of the bird, before even hitting the ground, was devoured by its kind and other flying beasts, not even a drop of blood reaching the earth.
“Truly befitting of beasts!”
The young warrior, seeing his arrow did not have the intended effect, cursed again, yet the inexplicable emotion in his heart did not subside. Therefore, he picked up another arrow from the ground, mounted it on the bow, and prepared to fire again.
“Don’t waste your strength, be careful not to provoke them, or you’ll have it coming,” one of the older soldiers said, stopping the young warrior’s impulsive and futile actions as he was about to release another arrow.
“They’re just a bunch of carrion birds, if they dare come down, we’ll slaughter them all,” the warrior responded.
“Hey, take a good look, there are at least a million of those carrion birds in the sky, and you think you’re going to kill them all by yourself? Forget it. We’re not in the army now; keep your head down.”
“That’s right, if you want to get yourself killed, don’t drag us into it. If we get attacked by these beasts, we might not even make it into the Divine Kingdom.”
“I’ll kill as many of these beasts as come at me.” Hearing the old soldiers’ words, the warrior was still somewhat discontent, but he ended up setting his bow down.
“Stop blowing hot air. We all know what you’re capable of, brother. Just move the bodies honestly! Even though it’s not a pleasant task, it’s still better than fighting on the battlefield.”
“What’s there to fear in death? As warriors who fight on the battlefield, we ascend to our Lord’s Divine Kingdom after death.”
“But isn’t it nice to enjoy life a little longer down here? Plus, once you ascend to the Divine Kingdom, you won’t be able to look after your family anymore. Your parents raised you till now; do you really have the heart to leave them and go enjoy eternal life alone?”
The soldiers responsible for collecting the dead on the battlefield joked cheerfully among the corpses. Such a scene may have once invoked fear, but for them, who had experienced much, it was now something they could regard indifferently.
Just as the number of beasts and carrion fowl drawn by the thick scent of blood on the battlefield increased, a rhythmic and dense fluttering of wings sounded in the sky.
The soldiers who were collecting the remains of their companions on the battlefield raised their heads due to this familiar disturbance, only to see what looked like dark clouds coming from behind the battle lines,
However, the warriors, all of whom had crossed the threshold into extraordinariness, could clearly see that these were not dark clouds but an Alien Beast Swarm so numerous and tightly packed that they appeared so.
These well-ordered flying Exotic Beasts dove right into the midst of the various carrion fowl in the sky.
Panicked cries and shrill squawks of death instantly echoed through the heavens. Without any suspense, the flock of flying carrion birds, originally intending to scavenge leftovers after the war to fill their bellies, fell into disarray in the face of the Alien Beast Swarm, utterly powerless to resist.
Desiccated bird carcasses fell like rain from the sky, and upon hitting the ground, they disintegrated into powder, exposing the ashen flesh without a hint of blood, as if all their essence had been drained dry.
Indeed, that was exactly the case. The Alien Beast Swarm in the sky had a talent for extracting the blood of creatures; they treated the flock of carrion birds drawn by the corpses on the battlefield as a supplement, voraciously absorbing their blood.
As the carrion birds in the sky felt the approach of death, they dispersed and fled, but even the fastest among them could not outpace these Exotic Beasts, which were no more than five meters in length.
In a brief moment, the sky was cleansed of the carrion fowl, clearing it considerably. But the Alien Beast Swarm, not yet satisfied with clearing the birds, turned their gaze towards the scattering beasts below.
Then, these small dragons covered with black thorn-like scales, with wings and four feet, bearing golden eyes, dove towards the earth with ferocious power.
