Chapter 1202 - 1202 1189 The Fuming Principal
Chapter 1202: Chapter 1189: The Fuming Principal Chapter 1202: Chapter 1189: The Fuming Principal The professor, under the gaze of the black Giant Dragon’s golden pupils filled with Thunderfire, stretched a strained and dry smile to ask his colleague, sensing an oppressively heavy air spreading around them.
“I don’t know about the others, but I certainly haven’t cultivated such Dragon blood creatures.”
One professor who had just been excited, with a Mediterranean hairstyle, replied with an equally stiff expression.
“Look, you two professors, can you stop kidding yourselves? This feeling can’t possibly be from Dragon blood creatures!”
Behind the two professors stood a young student whose face bore an expression bordering on tears, looking at the black Giant Dragon that had turned around and was eyeing them with great interest.
Although he knew that the project he was involved in was extremely dangerous, he never imagined that one day he would actually come face-to-face with a real dragon.
This certainly wasn’t something a powerless researcher like him was equipped to deal with. Thus, the highly survival-driven intern looked at the two professors in front of him,
“Professor, you’ve identified what it is by now, haven’t you? Hurry up and come up with a solution, or we’re done for.”
“What’s the rush?” a professor with a bald, shiny head spoke very calmly, “Stand still, don’t make any provocative moves, and don’t try to run. Just maintain our current stance and watch him.”
“What’s the use of that?” said the young man, his face pale with regret for choosing to intern here. Due to the Dragon Blood, he had some combat ability, but he felt that his slight strength was no different from having none at all when faced with the black dragon that had appeared here for some unknown reason.
“It could allow us to die with a little more dignity. Our names might even have a chance of appearing in textbooks in the future.”
“But, Professor, appearing in textbooks in this way is surely a bad example, isn’t it?”
“Having a name is good enough. Don’t be ungrateful. Do you know that the vast majority of Humans in the world don’t have the privilege of having their names printed in Books?”
“Guys, is now really the time to be discussing this? We have a dragon in front of us.”
“I know, I saw it, no need to remind me.”
“Then are you and your apprentice here discussing how to leave your names in textbooks?”
“What else can we do besides wait for death? This is a dragon, after all.”
“Try to save ourselves.”
“Stop talking nonsense. Look at the eyes of this dragon. Clearly, he understands everything we say, his intelligence is not inferior to ours.”
“Not inferior to, but superior to all three of you combined.”
Upon encountering these three Dragonkin, Muria, who found their reactions amusing, finally spoke up, with a deep and authoritative voice that vibrated the air, making it hot and dry.
“It… it started speaking.” Hearing Muria speak, the young man behind them was scared witless, sitting down on the floor as he pointed in horror at the black dragon that was approaching them.
“Making a fuss over nothing. You’ve been with me for so long; can’t you understand that dragons are a higher intellectual species than us Humans, and speaking is a very normal thing for them?” The Mediterranean-haired professor was very displeased with his student’s reaction.
“But…” The intern tried to argue. Although the Books said so, he had never seen a real example since, after all, they mostly came into contact with Dragon blood creatures, not pureblood Dragons.
“That being said, Your Excellency, you seem very special. According to our research, all dragons consider us Humans to be lower beings and don’t condescend to communicate with us, but you…”
“Me?” Muria chuckled, “I just find you quite amusing, that’s all.”
“Then your purpose for coming here is…?”
“Don’t worry about it. I just came to have a look around, and now I will leave.” Muria was not the least bit tense at being discovered.
Even though he had noticed that dozens of murderous Dragon Slayers, clad in special exoskeleton armor, were converging on this Research Institute located hundreds of Meters underground.
He wasn’t surprised by the Human response; after all, this was an Academy that trained Dragon Slayers, but it was also a fortress capable of resisting Dragon assaults in critical moments.
In front of the gaze of the two older men and the young man, dumbfounded, Muria’s huge Dragon Body suddenly disintegrated into the wind, spreading out in all directions.
The moment after Muria vanished, the sound of orderly and heavy footsteps approached, followed by fully-armed Dragon Slayers, each holding enormous guns, appeared.
“You’re too late!” Seeing the armed squadron usually stationed at the Academy, the Mediterranean-haired professor let out a long sigh.
“Professor, what happened? Why was the highest alert issued?” When the tense-looking defense force arrived at this highly secured Research Institute, they didn’t find the expected rogue Dragon blood creatures, but instead saw three researchers with pale faces as if they had been frightened by something.
“Because a dragon just appeared before us, do you understand?” the Mediterranean Professor stared expressionlessly at the academy’s security force commander, “You know what this means, right? No need for me to spell it out.”
“That’s impossible,” the head of the academy’s security team rebutted subconsciously.
“Do you think we would come here to make fools of you?” the professor who had just recovered from the terror of facing a pureblood dragon retorted,
“Forget it, I don’t need to say more to you. I will speak directly to the headmaster.”
After finishing his statement, the greatly shaken professor dialed the phone of the person with the most authority in the academy.
“Hey, Sanchez, what’s up? If you want to talk about research funding, then I think you can hang up now. The funding for this year can’t possibly increase anymore.”
“You old bastard, I’m not calling about funding; there’s a very important emergency.”
“What emergency?” the voice at the other end of the communicator turned serious too.
“A dragon has infiltrated the academy, just appearing before me, making fools out of me and Stutter.”
“…” Silence ensued at the other end for a long time before speaking again, “I recall that April Fool’s Day has already passed this year.”
“I’m not joking with you; I was just preparing for the possibility of a martyr’s death.”
“Is that so? Wait for me for three hours; I’ll be right back at the school.”
“You bastard, as the headmaster, how can you not stay within the academy? Where the hell have you run off to now?”
“Who told you being a headmaster means I have to stay at the school? I have civil liberties too.” Just then, an inconveniently timed soft, coquettish woman’s voice rang through the other end of the phone, seemingly flirtatious.
“You old guy, nearly ready for the grave, are still chasing girls?” Hearing this voice, Professor Sanchez’s body shook with anger.
“Don’t talk nonsense. With my age, where would I have such thoughts? It’s the young lady who took the initiative to come to me,” a proud laughter echoed from the other end of the phone.
…
Three hours later
An exasperated voice echoed in the empty underground plaza, “Can someone tell me how all this happened, how a dragon infiltrated the academy without anyone noticing? Is the academy’s defense system just a decoration, allowing a dragon to swagger in unchallenged?”
“Cough, George, calm down.”
Seeing the elderly man in front of him with white hair but a physique not inferior to the strongest young man, in a fit of rage, Professor Sanchez suppressed the Schadenfreude that should not exist within his heart and spoke comforting words.
“It’s unavoidable that such a thing happened; nobody wanted it to be like this. It’s only an accident.”
“You’re telling me this is an accident?”
The old man sitting on the ground, holding a handful of greyish wooden dust, turned his head, his face undisguised with anger. He knew how unbecoming his behavior was at that moment, but he didn’t want to suppress his emotions because the loss this time was too substantial.
“A dragon infiltrated the academy, created for the purpose of dragon slaying, without anyone noticing, broke into the most valuable treasure vault, and looted or rather devoured clean the most precious batch of treasures.
Do you know how many people will laugh at us once word gets out? Our academy will become the joke of those feudal clans. And that’s just the hit to our reputation; do you understand how severe our actual losses are?”
“I don’t know,” said Sanchez, who came along to see the commotion, shaking his head without hesitation. “Only you, as the headmaster, have the authority to know what’s stored here.”
“Do you know what this is?” Headmaster George extended the wooden dust in his hand toward the professor.
“What?”
“The legendary branch from the Tree of Life, but now all the remaining power has been drained by that dragon. This sacred relic passed down since Ancient Times is now completely reduced to trash.”
“The thing you’re talking about seems to only exist in mythological stories; there’s no way to authenticate it. At the end of the day, it’s just a piece of deadwood with some special powers, so don’t be too heartbroken.”
“And what about the dragon corpse? Seventy years ago, me and my comrades desperately stopped the revival of the Fire King; it was a symbol and trophy of victory, and now that’s gone too. Analyzing the remnants here, there’s an eighty to ninety percent chance the dragon that infiltrated the academy has swallowed the dragon corpse as well.”
“If that thing has been swallowed, then so be it; after all, we humans can’t make use of it. It’s nothing but a decoration,” the professor continued to console.
“We may not be able to use it now, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be able to in the future. Moreover, this dragon is provoking us.”
The white-haired old man arrived at the entrance of the lower plaza, formerly the location of the bronze gates. Here, some scattered fragments of black scales were strewn about.
