Chapter 1183 - 1183 1170 Who is the God
Chapter 1183: Chapter 1170: Who is the God? Chapter 1183: Chapter 1170: Who is the God? “These monsters are becoming more and more human-like in form,”
Muria, whose body had gradually unfolded from a flat-chested girl into a slender woman with long legs, considered among the most aesthetically perfect among humanoid creatures, looked at the monster charts in front of her, ranging from large to small, increasingly resembling human form. These charts were all marked with dates. She furrowed her brows in thought, “What on earth has happened to the world?”
“Alright, Muria, these aren’t the kinds of questions we hunters should concern ourselves with. This is for those scholars who study monsters to ponder,” said a burly man, nonchalantly, in heavy armor as he looked at the thoughtful Muria.
“Roda, you’ve got nothing but muscles in your head, and now you want others to stop thinking like you?” Another man in a black suit scoffed. He looked down on his colleague’s behavior with disdain.
“Hmph, I just think we should do what we need to do. As Exorcists, we should be single-minded in figuring out how to banish those evil spirit monsters, and leave pondering their origins to the professionals,” said the armored strongman in a muffled voice. He appeared honest and straightforward, yet the daunting presence about him that could quiet crying children was impossible to conceal.
“Professionals? In terms of understanding monsters, who could be more professional than us Exorcists who face them head-on?”
“That’s true too,” the armored strongman scratched his head, as if just realizing this point.
“The origins of these monsters are indeed very strange. According to the records in the archives, these monsters appeared suddenly in our world over a hundred and twenty years ago, without any warning.
However, following a succession of tragedies and eyewitness reports, we can confirm that the number and types of monsters have been growing rapidly over the past century, and their forms are constantly changing.
Moreover, the monsters we have recently purged and purified have already had physical bodies. When we battle them, we can actually wound them. When we kill them, there is material residue left behind, which has never happened before.”
“These monsters have always been changing; we all noticed that, without your saying so. Initially, when monsters first appeared, only those with special talents could see the monsters and become Exorcists. But now, even ordinary people can see them. This change has already explained a lot of problems.”
“These monsters are very strange, not at all like those of our world. It’s as if they are an alien species, having spent hundreds of years slowly integrating into our world, adapting to the ecological environment of our world.”
Upon hearing this, the slender Muria raised her eyebrows. Although her face appeared particularly young among the gathering of great Exorcists, her presence was in no way inferior to these demon slayers who had surpassed mortal limits.
On her face, which looked somewhat surreal compared to ordinary people, a pair of heterochromatic eyes was particularly striking. Her left eye looked no different from that of an average person, just a common dark brown pupil.
But her right eye was pale gold, with a vertical pupil like that of dragon snakes. It was this vertical pupil that endowed her with a dignity and a presence that no one dared meet.
“Apt metaphor, isn’t it? These alien species are just more powerful and ferocious, so much so that we humans have had to compete with them for the position of the top predator in the food chain,” commented the Exorcist in the suit, smiling.
“Your comparison makes us humans out to be beasts,”
“It’s just a metaphor. The basic principle remains the same. Ever since humans invented steam cannons, there have been no monsters that can stand against us, nor any creatures forcing us to retreat,”
“But this extraterrestrial monster theory of yours has no evidence to support it,”
“I have no evidence to prove it, but that doesn’t matter. I don’t care what these monsters become; I just need to make sure that when facing these monsters, we are always in the position of the hunter.” The seemingly refined Exorcist spoke the words of a typical brute.
After a pointless debate, Muria left the Exorcist Association building, now a landmark of the local city, and headed for her residence.
Although it had been just a short three years, the world had already undergone significant changes. The most obvious change was that the gathering places for Exorcists no longer had to be clandestine but were now openly located in the most conspicuous parts of the city.
This was also thanks to the increasingly frequent incidents of harm from evil spirits worldwide. Evil spirits were no longer creatures only seen by those with special abilities; when evil spirits appeared out of the darkness, even ordinary people could see them.
Therefore, in this universally known environment, to avoid causing greater panic and the collapse of order, the Exorcists who protected humans from the shadows came into the light to calm those ordinary people who stood powerless against evil spirits.
So, when Muria, whose body had distinct non-human features, walked down the streets, pedestrians on both sides cast glances of awe and admiration at her.
And faced with such gazes, Muria, long accustomed, calmly accepted. She looked around as if searching for something, and facing this somewhat abnormal behavior, the surrounding pedestrians took it in stride, even taking the initiative to draw near.
The fantastical encounter from three years ago had made her the top Exorcist in the city, even the region, and a household name.
The mysterious entity, unknowable in name, had once bestowed upon her the power she possesses now, having transformed one of her eyes into a non-human structure as a so-called price. However, since then, the entity had never communicated with her again.
The supposed payment rather seemed like a boon, granting her a special vision that surpassed that of mortals, which became her hallmark today.
Bang!
The heavy metallic sound of the door closing echoed as Karor returned to her abode. Her rich experiences had matured her thinking, no longer a small girl driven by hatred, but a responsible, committed exorcist.
“What exactly causes those monsters to appear in the world and why do they continue to evolve? Is it truly an invasion of specialized extraterrestrial species?”
“Describing the intermingling and competitive pillaging between the species of two worlds as a mere invasion of species doesn’t seem fitting to me.” A serene and lofty voice laced with a trace of contentment arose within the girl’s heart.
“Who?” The sudden recollection prompted Flames to burst from within the girl, swirling around her body.
“Do you not remember? My sworn companion, you shouldn’t, not in such a short span of time; it’s impossible for you to forget.”
“You are…” Recognizing the familiar voice and imposing presence, Karor felt the majestic will descending upon her, and the shock and confusion in her eyes faded. She opened her mouth to speak but realized she had no idea how to address this being that had changed her Destiny.
“Yes, correct, it is I.” Sensing that the now mature girl recognized him, the imposing will showed approval.
“What do you need me to do for you?” Without any further probing, Karor asked directly. She had been prepared for this day for a long time, having already considered what to say. After all, what she had given before was far too insignificant.
“I need you to do nothing for me; your strength is of no help to me, but it may yet save or preserve your own civilization.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Since last time, I’ve chosen not to meddle with your life anymore, whether you use the strength I granted for any purpose, I shall not interfere. It was supposed to be this way, but there was an unforeseen incident.”
“Hmm.” Hearing this profound and noble voice, Karor nodded calmly, her demeanor reflecting that of an aloof goddess.
Such an attitude caused Muria to fall into a brief silence. Who exactly was the deity here? Shouldn’t he be the one assuming superiority? He had explained at length, and yet she responded with but a single word.
“And then?” Sensing Muria’s silence, Karor prompted.
“You have already sensed the flux within the world, the root of this turmoil is due to your world merging with another.”
Muria did not beat around the bush with the girl; he wasn’t the type to obscure and feign depth, to torment his believers, collecting Faith like some false god. He was an entity even higher than a True God.
“Our world is merging with another?” A look of shock instantly crossed the stoic beauty Karor’s face; such news jolted her worldview, surpassing what she could bear.
“Correct. It is the fusion of your world with a completely different ecosystem from the Different World that causes the strange phenomena you now witness.”
“What will be the ultimate outcome?”
“A mass extinction of species! Whether from your world or the Evil Spirit World, over ninety-nine percent of species will perish. Only the most adaptable species will survive in the merged New World, eventually evolving into a completely new Form of life.”
“How can it be prevented?” Karor asked, her complexion turning pale.
“This is a natural evolution of the Void, unstoppable, and I did not come to find you because of this.” At this moment, Muria’s tone was exceptionally indifferent, not one to intervene in natural evolution. Survival of the fittest—the fundamental Rules applied no matter which World one was in.
“Then why have you come to find me?” Karor clenched her Fist, not pleading with the powerful and unknowable entity, for she had no grounds to plead.
“Humans show the greatest adaptability in this current World. In the future New World, humans will inevitably survive. However, there is a crisis looming that could exterminate Humanity, and it is approaching. My descent upon this world is to alert you!”
