Chapter 98 – The Unique Elamin
"Might I know the way, please?" Meris’s voice echoed softly against the all-blue walls etched with water-drop markings.
Her words were gentle. Polite, even.
And that’s exactly what shocked Lionnel.
How could an Elamin speak like that?
You might ask why, but isn’t it obvious?
Meris was born from the greatest family of elemental manipulation across both worlds.
Whether it was fire, ice, wind, lightning, earth, magma—all elementals—they mastered them all with a level of refinement that had never been seen before.
She had been raised in an environment that constantly whispered the same thing: "We are the peak. All the other elemental families are beneath us."
A toxic mindset, yes. But what else would you expect from a clan that ruled their domain with such uncontested supremacy?
Power, when left unchallenged, always breeds arrogance.
You begin to believe your own propaganda. You forget reality.
But Meris never did.
She wasn’t someone who looked down on others because of their status or pedigree. She didn’t care about any of that.
She was only here to find a way into the Forbidden Zone and complete her quest.
She had expected something interesting, something challenging, but instead, all she found was people too terrified of her background to even be entertaining.
’Sigh... Let’s just get this over with. I miss my Kaden... I wonder what he’s doing right now.’ Meris thought inwardly, her heart wandering to the man she loved most.
And instinctively, her lips curled into a soft, warm smile. A smile full of affection and longing, one she didn’t even notice forming.
But what a mistake that was.
Because while her mind drifted, her unfocused gaze happened to fall on the young man standing beside Lionnel.
Lionnel’s only son. His heir.
Ravin Blueheart.
And when he saw Meris smile, when he thought it was directed at him, his heart skipped a beat.
’She... she smiled at me?’ Ravin blinked, stunned. And when he confirmed that yes, she really was smiling in his direction, something dark and filthy stirred inside him.
’I knew it. Heir of a great family or not, she’s just like every other bitch dressed like a maid in this house.’ Ravin thought coldly, already planning how to put Meris beneath him...literally.
Lionnel finally snapped out of his stunned state, eyes locking onto Meris once again. He still couldn’t believe it, but he knew better than to let that hesitation linger.
"Miss Elamin, we do have a secret passage that allows access to the Forbidden Zone," Lionnel said, tone careful. "We can guide you there. But..." he paused, then added,
"We’ll stop at the entrance. From there, you’ll have to continue alone."
Meris tilted her head slightly, curiosity flickering in her eyes.
"It’s that dangerous?" she asked.
Lionnel gave her a wry smile. "Miss Elamin... it’s a forbidden zone. Have you ever seen something forbidden that wasn’t dangerous?"
Meris smiled faintly. "True," she answered simply.
But inwardly, her thoughts were racing. Why had The Will sent her here just to create a technique? This whole situation felt like it was crafted to test her combat ability.
Pause.
Her thoughts halted as that idea settled. The more she thought about it, the more it made sense.
Because fighting meant mastering your abilities. And the more you fought, the more you sharpened them. With enough experience, you could carve your own path meaning, create your own technique. Especially in a space aligned with your element.
Something shifted inside Meris.
Her mind cleared like ice water cutting through fog.
She understood now. She understood why The Will had sent her here.
But even then... why a forbidden zone? There were countless places in the world that overflowed with ice energy. Why this one?
She didn’t know.
And just as she was about to think deeper, a voice cut through her thoughts.
A young, confident voice.
"If you’re worried, I can accompany you, Miss Meris," Ravin said, his smile calm, his tone pleasant. His face, the kind of handsome that made maids blush, shimmered with quiet grace.
Which was exactly what the maids stationed around the room did. They blushed and giggled and stared at him like he was a prince from some cheap novel.
Lionnel side-eyed his son but said nothing.
He knew his boy. And he trusted that he wouldn’t do anything foolish... at least, nothing he couldn’t handle.
Meris didn’t respond immediately. She looked at Ravin, unreadable thoughts swimming in her eyes.
Then, finally, a small but weighty smile curved across her lips.
"Thank you. I would appreciate that greatly," she said, her voice polite, measured.
Ravin’s smile deepened. He gave her a graceful bow.
With everything settled, Meris was escorted to a guest room to rest while the Bluehearts prepared for the departure.
Thud.
Meris dropped onto the bed, arms spread out, eyes staring blankly at the blue ceiling.
Her lips twitched.
Irritation flickered.
She was getting tired of all the blue around her.
"My lady, why did you accept the young master’s offer to accompany you?" Lari asked, curiosity in her tone.
Meris just smiled.
"I wonder...?" she replied softly, eyes already closing.
Lari didn’t push.
She knew her lady well enough to know when not to ask.
But she was certain of one thing,
That young man had no idea what he’d just walked into.
...
Meris now stood in front of a twisting blue teleportation portal—the one that would send her into the Forbidden Zone.
Beside her were Lionnel, Ravin, a couple of maids, and several rune crafters whose job was to maintain the portal’s stability.
As Meris stared into the spiraling energy, a thought surfaced.
"Am I the first Elamin to come here?" she asked suddenly, her voice catching Lionnel off guard.
He hadn’t expected the question.
"No, Miss Elamin... many others have come before you. But..." he hesitated, visibly puzzled. "We only know this through word of mouth. We don’t know who they were or why they came. But my guess is that it’s probably the same reason as you."
He was being honest. He didn’t know why no patriarch ever recorded the names or stories of the Elamin who’d come before.
And whenever he asked his father about it as a child, the man would just go silent.
But there was one thing his father had said. A warning he never forgot.
’Never provoke an Elamin. And never step into the core zone of the Glacier of the Moon.’
The words echoed in his skull as his eyes instinctively flicked to his son.
He looked at Ravin for a moment, then turned away.
’He’s not a fool. He won’t doom us all.’ Lionnel thought, deciding not to say anything, choosing instead to trust him.
Meris, meanwhile, was still lost in thought.
So many Elamin had come here... yet nothing had been left behind. No trace. No legacy. Just silence.
’Weird. Very, very weird...’ she thought.
"Miss Elamin, everything’s ready," Lionnel said, snapping her out of it.
Gathering herself, Meris nodded silently and stepped forward into the portal, disappearing in an instant.
Ravin followed close behind, that same grin still plastered across his face—the grin of a man who thought he’d just caught his prey.
But really...
Had he?
