Chapter 96 – Kill after Kill

Kaden looked indifferently at the corpse of the human-faced spider.

He calmly controlled the disgusting black blood of the spider and drank it all without a change in expression...well in fact, he even looked a little bit pleased.

Once that was done, he started to think.

Because if he wanted to kill all the beasts in the middle zone silently, without alerting anyone like the last time, then he had to find a way to make both the corpses and the blood disappear.

The most simple solution was to let Reditha absorb every trace of blood, even the scent, then store the corpse inside his space ring.

It was the only thing he could think of, so he did exactly that, and in no time, it looked like nothing had ever happened there.

No blood, no scent, no corpse...nothing.

In addition, just to make sure, Kaden told Little Rory to scout from above and alert him of any monsters that managed to slip through his perception or better yet, to guide him through the most ideal path, since she could see everything from the sky.

Once that was settled, Kaden resumed walking silently.

Even if he looked like he was walking slowly, and indeed, he was. You could hardly see him for more than two seconds straight. He looked like a phantom, like a wraith slipping in and out of existence.

It looked complicated, but in fact, it wasn’t.

With his speed now surpassing his limit, Kaden could do things he hadn’t even thought possible.

He had extreme control over the velocity of his body, so even while walking slowly, he made sure the molecules of his body, of his very skin, moved so fast that to the outside world, he looked like he was phasing in and out of existence.

So, with that little astuce of his, Kaden continued his silent slaughter.

After not even three minutes, he found his next target.

It was a huge monster lying on its back peacefully, with white-scaled skin that glowed with a soft blue when the silver light of the moon passed through the thick canopy of the Forest of Asterion.

Its face resembled that of an ape, but it had two tails and a few horns protruding from its head.

The aura it released was incredible. It looked like it was at the very limit of intermediate rank and only needed one more step to evolve past it.

Kaden didn’t waste time debating how to kill it silently.

With his technique, now coupled with Slothful Steps to make his movement more illusory and unpredictable, he immediately appeared beside the ape’s head.

In his right hand, he held Reditha. In his left hand, a deep crimson sword made of blood. And above him, another sword made of blood floated in the air, each of them dripping with poison and corrosive blood.

He applied Soulbrand on all three, making his blades capable of touching the spiritual realm.

All of this happened while he stood only inches from the monster—yet the beast didn’t even sense him.

So, with surgical precision, Kaden pierced both of the ape’s eyes and its forehead.

At the same time.

The beast didn’t even get the time to roar in pain. Its death was instant and yet, in that single second, the pain it endured surpassed all it could have ever imagined.

Kaden looked at the ape’s corpse, drank its blood, then repeated the same process as before to erase all traces.

Without hesitation, he continued his path.

Everything in his path was killed silently. The beasts of the middle zone were strong, but practically all of them were just at the intermediate rank.

And that level of power was no longer a challenge for Kaden.

So... he killed.

Some beasts had terrifying perception abilities, making Kaden’s heart skip a beat or two each time he was almost sensed.

Especially one—an eerie bat-like monster with three red eyes.

That beast, with its incredible sensory abilities, actually managed to detect Kaden. But the poor fool made the mistake of trying to attack him instead of crying out loud.

And it paid the price for its foolishness.

Kaden, shocked by being discovered, punched the beast’s head with his herculean strength and bursting it into a rain of blood while at the same time generating a shockwave that almost gave away his position.

His heart skipped a beat, twice in one encounter.

Kaden cursed himself for his stupidity, for using more strength than necessary, and decided right then to start training his strength control while he was at it.

So now, beside using his sword and different traits, he decided to use the majority of his stats in meaningful ways.

Speed was already something he had mastered pretty well. Will, too. Perception was still lacking, as he wasn’t able to sense the bat discovering him.

So, step by step, Kaden began applying his stats and skills from his extreme unique skill more efficiently.

He maxed out his perception, which caused his head to hurt—but thanks to his high Will, he pushed through it.

Then, using his Speed and Strength stats, he practiced running fast while ensuring his legs barely made any sound thanks to strength control, all while vibrating his molecules to phase in and out.

All these applications of his new approach to stats and skills were made possible by his Intelligence stat, which made learning and manipulating his powers significantly easier.

Slowly but surely, Kaden started becoming proficient in his kills. He became faster, deadlier, more subtle, more hidden.

His steps made no sound. His heartbeat couldn’t be heard. His body temperature was lowered so much he resembled a corpse—using his Constitution stat in a truly incredible way.

Step by step. Kill after kill. Death after death. Blood after blood.

Kaden was slowly transforming from an amateur assassin... into a full-blooded and proficient killer.

And by the time he had slain more than half of the forest, silently and without anyone noticing,

The Will chimed.
