Chapter 2611: Reincarnation
Chapter 2611: Reincarnation
Zu An’s heart quivered. He had just gone to the moon to search for Chang’e, only to learn that the Celestial Court had vanished from the world. He'd been grieving over possibly never meeting the Mermaid Queen again when a clue suddenly popped up here.
The Goddess of Wu Mountain continued, “Little sister Chang’e knows you better. She feels it’s unlikely for any mishap to have befallen you given your wits and strength. There must be a compelling reason why you haven’t looked for us yet. She has been pondering that question, and we concluded that the most likely reason is time.”
The Goddess of Wu Mountain lowered her head in sorrow. “If a day in heaven translates to a year on earth, there could be other temporal disparities in the world too. A spacetime traveler like you might have a different flow of time from us. Our ten thousand years might have been just a few years or even a few days for you.”
The Goddess of Wu Mountain couldn’t hold back her tears anymore.
Zu An felt his heart clench. He wanted to wipe off her tears, but his hands passed right through her projection. That made him feel worse.
“Let’s not talk about sad matters anymore. You must be concerned about little sister Chang’e. She’s famous in the Celestial Court, with many male deities seeing her as their dream lover.” The Goddess of Wu Mountain chuckled. “But little sister Chang’e never paid them any heed. She told them that her heart already belongs to someone else. The male deities were so angry that some declared they would teach that person a lesson. There were several extremely powerful individuals among them. Little did they know that their love rival wasn’t in this world.”
Her teasing words brought a smile to Zu An’s face, though it pained him to be unable to protect the Mermaid Queen from other people’s harassment.
As if sensing his worry, the Goddess of Wu Mountain quickly added, “But there’s nothing to worry. Little sister Chang’e is one with the Frost Palace. No one can hurt her in the Frost Palace, not even the Celestial Emperor.”
Zu An breathed a sigh of relief. At the same time, he became increasingly curious about the Frost Palace’s origin.
“I was worried that little sister Chang’e would feel lonely while I wasn't around, so I offered to bring her a pet to stave off her loneliness. I thought she would choose a cat or a dog, but she is surprisingly fond of rabbits. So, I caught a mutated jade rabbit in the wilderness for her. She was very fond of it,” the Goddess of Wu Mountain said gleefully. She was satisfied with her gift.
Zu An hadn’t expected the Goddess of Wu Mountain to be the one who gave Chang’e her Jade Rabbit. The Jade Rabbit was capable of cultivating, and she would later transform into a pretty woman and slip into the mortal world. Although, that was a thing for the future.
“Little sister Chang’e also introduced me to Miss Mo Xi. We have been looking for ways to hasten her cultivation. Miss Mo Xi isn’t fond of speaking, but she’s very talented and cultivates fast. However, she’s still unable to catch up with little sister Chang’e. We always seem to be slightly off the mark from meeting the requirements for ‘Farewell, Nanchao’.”
Zu An frowned. Mo Xi should have received an abundance of resources from the Goddess of Wu Mountain and the Mermaid Queen, yet she was still unable to surpass Chang’e. This made him even more curious about the Frost Palace’s origin.
Hold on, the Goddess of Wu Mountain said that Mo Xi isn’t fond of speaking. Did Mo Xi speak in front of them?
Zu An had many questions, but all he had now was a recording left behind by the Goddess of Wu Mountain. Conversation wasn’t possible, so he could only listen to her narration.
“I thought the Frost Palace could use some greenery and tried transplanting some plants and flowers there, but I haven’t succeeded yet. But I’ll continue trying to find a plant that can thrive in the Frost Palace.”
Zu An was moved. The Goddess of Wu Mountain was a reclusive individual who enjoyed her peace. It was completely unlike her to proactively help the Mermaid Queen. In other words, she had done all that for his sake.
“You must be curious about the outcome of the war between the Shamans and Fiends.” The Goddess of Wu Mountain wryly shook her head right after saying those words. “I nearly forgot. You’re from the future. You must already know the conclusion.”
“The war continued for a long time, and countless powerful Shamans and Celestials met their end. The final showdown even resulted in the deaths of most Ancestral Shamans, with only Houtu and a few other Ancestral Shamans surviving the ordeal. Emperor Jun and Donghuang Taiyi died in that battle too.” The Goddess of Wu Mountain looked a little shaken up when she spoke about that grand battle. It had to have been truly terrible.
“There was no victor in the war between the Shamans and the Fiends. Both sides receded into the shadows, opening room for the rise of humankind. Humans are hardworking and brave, and they are adept at learning the skills of both races. I’d expect no less from big brother Zu’s race,” the Goddess of Wu Mountain said, talking about the human race with a gentle gaze.
She didn’t continue elaborating on that, knowing Zu An had to be familiar with that history. Instead, she moved the topic on to something else, “Xihe often drops by the Frost Palace to chat with us. She also visits me at Wu Mountain from time to time. A lot of Miss Mo Xi’s cultivation resources came from her.”
Zu An harbored conflicting feelings about Xihe. Even though the latter had approached him with the intention of exacting vengeance for her sons, they had indeed spent a long time together as an intimate couple.
The Goddess of Wu Mountain was awed. “To think that you could make the renowned Sun Goddess, the ex-Celestial Empress, fall in love with you in such a short time. You’re impressive indeed...”
Faced with her cold eyes, Zu An’s face reddened despite knowing she was an illusion.
“I don’t like her presence at Wu Mountain. She’s too searing. Her presence dissipates the mountain fog and withers the plants.” The Goddess of Wu Mountain pouted. “But little sister Chang’e is fond of her. The Frost Palace feels much warmer whenever she’s around. As they often appear together in the Celestial Court, a legend has begun spreading among the humans, saying that the Sun Goddess and the Moon Goddess are close sisters.”
...
Hearing the events that had transpired over the years filled Zu An’s heart with warmth. If only I could have gone through these events with them.
“Xihe heard from little sister Chang’e that there is a Miss Shang in the future who greatly resembles her. She was envious that we had future incarnations, and she said that she wanted to be Chang’e’s big sister if she ever reincarnated,” the Goddess of Wu Mountain said with a smile.
Zu An’s heart skipped a beat. Could Shang Hongyu be...
The Goddess of Wu Mountain’s voice suddenly sped up. “When I first heard about Miss Manman and Xihe’s talk about reincarnation, I initially didn’t get it. I know myself. I’d rather wait for you as myself than to undergo reincarnation. However, I’m starting to see why as of late.”
Zu An was startled. Her tone... Did something huge happen?
