Chapter 890 Train C171
Chapter 890: Chapter 890 Train C171
The train bound for other wormhole points differed greatly from the trains of the past.
First, the content of the train coaches had increased; for instance, there used to be only passenger coaches and a dining car, while now, in addition to these two, there was also a separate lounge where players could pay to pass the time, and the dining car count had gone from one to three.
Next was the coaches themselves, which used to have twenty-four seats but now had been changed to twelve small rooms per coach, situated at the four corners with a communal living area in the middle, complete with tables and chairs, accommodating twelve people with no problem.
The opening and closing mechanism of the front and rear doors of the coaches remained the same: the front coach could directly open the door to the rear coach, but to enter the front coach from the rear, ringing the doorbell was required.
Lastly came the appearance of the train. Previous trains used transparent materials on the left, right, and top sides, but the partitions at the front and back coach doors were non-transparent, only allowing visibility through the middle windows to the intermediate coach and the doors of the front and rear coaches. Now, apart from some daily necessities and decorative items, all the walls within the train, including the walls of the rooms and restrooms, had been changed to transparent materials. However, restrooms and rooms could be fogged using a switch, and the front and back coach doors had been changed to sliding automatic doors that retracted to either side.
All things considered, the entire train had a more technological feel to it; ordering food used projection screens, and service robots that floated automatically served the meals. Passengers could choose to dine in the coaches or in the dining car, which no longer had thresholds.
The conductor generally stayed in the lounge unless specially requested, but whether someone would actually come was another matter. They didn’t have a separate corridor and came and went through the coaches, though a chef performance had been added.
Naturally, the entire train had become wider and longer. Xu Huo glanced toward the floating signs on the coach walls, now on train C171 in the sixteenth coach.
There was only one other player who had boarded at the same station as him. After coming aboard, he saw only three players in the same coach, with one staying in his room the entire time.
The player who boarded with Xu Huo appeared to be a newbie who had just leveled up, observing the layout of the coach after coming aboard. Xu Huo did not disguise the fact that he was a newcomer and understood the changes to the train in the shortest amount of time.
As newcomers, the two nodded to each other in greeting but did not exchange names.
Outside in the lounge, among the two men and one woman, the short-haired female player only glanced at them initially before focusing on the dining car menu, which offered a myriad of dishes available on the train.
Of the two male players, one sat opposite a window, seemingly enjoying the scenery outside, with a mechanical dog sitting by his feet.
The other player, One-Eyed, had a circular pattern branded over his blind left eye. He showed disdain for the two new players, occasionally glancing over at the short-haired female player.
Rank-C Players generally had an evolution rate of up to 50%, and their senses were much sharper. The female player had noticed One-Eyed’s glances from the beginning, but she had not reacted until after she had finished ordering food through her terminal and looked up. Suddenly, a sword as broad as a person, the Crimson Sword, flew at One-Eyed, with the woman immediately following it into a leap. When One-Eyed blocked the sword with his defense prop, she grabbed the hilt and made a broad sweep with her arm, sweeping the sword out!
One-Eyed was not as easy to deal with as imagined. He slapped his clothing, and six palm-sized hexagonal metal pieces automatically connected into a larger shield, blocking the sword strike without injury.
The short-haired female player then leapt, using the momentum to launch a series of kicks toward One-Eyed’s other side, her shoes must have been a prop, as pointed ends emerged with a small shockwave when she kicked!
One-Eyed immediately raised his right arm to block. He had defense prop strapped to his forearm, but the direct impact did not completely absorb the force of the woman’s attack, and from far away, you could see his muscles on the arm shaking. Afterwards, One-Eyed stepped back to put some distance between them, showing no change in expression as he said, "It was just a couple of glances, no need to kill someone over it, right?"
The female player didn’t bother to get entangled in "a couple of glances" and "killing someone," whether there should be a causal link between them, she plainly said, "Killing people needs a reason? I simply don’t like the look of you."
One-Eyed narrowed his remaining eye, "I spared your life because you’re a woman. Don’t be ungrateful."
With a cold laugh, the female player threw a gyro onto the ground, "Single-lane!"
Xu Huo moved aside, looking down, a semi-transparent path appeared on the floor, just a meter wide, directly aligned with the front and back coach doors. The female player and One-Eyed happened to be standing in this "single-lane," with space on both sides separated. The woman lifted the oversized long sword toward One-Eyed’s head and, after he blocked once more, used a prop to kick him out of the coach.
The coach doors were fully automatic, sensing someone approaching in advance and allowing One-Eyed to fly out without obstruction while simultaneously activating the seventeenth coach. The doors opening and closing brushed against two players near the door there, while the short-haired female player also left the sixteenth coach to enter the intermediate coach.
The two really started fighting.
Usually on the train, players would avoid initiating a fight in broad daylight. One reason was to avoid exposing their own weaknesses, and the other, whether winning or losing, was that injury could make them the prey of other players. However, Rank-C Players seemingly had no such concerns.
It looked like it would be a while before a result came through. Xu Huo purchased a room at the front door—yes, individual rooms in the coaches cost money, five thousand White Notes for one night.
The room had only a bed and a desk, not very spacious, but comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep. When not using the fogging feature, the inside and outside were both visible to the other side.
Xu Huo activated the fogging feature to block out the sight from outside, but one could still hear the noise.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, he opened his personal panel, preparing to upgrade his prop.
This round, he had two prop merge upgrades from completing the level, and with this month’s original one, he had three opportunities for prop merge upgrades in total; he was planning to use all of them.
There were quite a few props available for upgrade. Xu Huo favored the aspects of long-range attack and tracking.
Currently, the two props he used most for long-range attacks were the "Crimson Sword" and "V Fan Xiao’s Tool for Committing Crimes." The "Crimson Sword" was a special item, which generally could not be merged and upgraded, but the prop upgrade privileges opened to Rank-C Players could pay to swap for a better one. "V Fan Xiao’s Tool for Committing Crimes" could be merged with the Level D Item "Aesthetic of Explosion" upgraded into a Rank-C Item.
The lighter could cover a broad range, but the things it could set ablaze were limited, especially as players began using high-tech protective suits or prop protective suits. The "Aesthetic of Explosion" could cause targeted explosions but did not have many practical applications and was difficult to effectively target players.
After players leveled up, these two props became more suited to everyday scenes, burning objects or creating explosions. However, this did not mean that they were useless, and in situations where human efforts fell short, they were actually two decent props.
