Chapter 873: Chapter 873 Insider

Xu Huo checked his number, 326.

The person opposite him wasn’t a player. The woman seemed especially terrified, her voice trembling as she negotiated with him, "I can’t complete the black ball task, so I won’t choose the black ball either. Can you also not choose the black ball?"

The man in the raincoat nodded.

The woman managed a weak smile, "Which ball do you want to choose..."

The raincoat man pointed at the white ball.

The woman was stunned for a moment, seemingly surprised that he was so amenable, so she gathered her courage to suggest, "How about we complete the task togeth..."

Before she could finish her sentence, the raincoat man had already chosen the white ball.

He directly gave the woman the right to choose.

The woman, shaking in her hands and feet, walked to the projected balls, her gaze shifting between the white and yellow balls, hesitating before finally choosing the white ball.

The random result was the raincoat man. The woman continuously bowed in thanks to him, but as she moved closer, he stepped back. They weren’t even talking about conversation; he didn’t even want to get close.

You Si was amused, "This guy must be socially anxious; it’s the first time I’ve seen such a shy man."

The raincoat man turned his head to "look" over, his hair covering his eyes so much that he couldn’t actually see them -- it could only be described as "looking" -- but he paused for a moment in their direction before swiftly looking away.

His assigned task was to catch an immature piranha at the aquarium.

"This task shouldn’t be difficult," You Si said.

That was what many people thought, but the next second, the raincoat man appeared in a sealed body of water. From the projection, it was evident that the area above the water was enclosed and surrounded by transparent glass; one could only soak in the water with no place to even catch a breath.

Staying underwater for a short time posed no challenge for the players. After swimming around a bit, the raincoat man put on a protective suit resembling a spacesuit, cleaned out the water inside, and then brushed away the hair from one eye.

But soon, he was completely surrounded by the Piranha Swarm.

Tasks without quick outcomes were not broadcast for long, so the host shifted the attention back to the plaza.

Three hundred eighty-one people—inclusive of the six who died at the start, leaving three hundred seventy-five—if paired up, amounted to nearly one hundred ninety pairs. Now, not even half of them remained, and those who had completed the first round lost interest in watching others choose the balls, simply finding places in the plaza to rest.

Once more than a hundred participants had had their turn, the remaining majority even lost interest in the task projections and gathered to find other forms of entertainment.

Xu Huo, together with You Si, Sha Jia, and Gan Yi—a player who had later returned after completing acknowledgment—gathered together.

The last two had come over actively. You Si, suffering from withdrawals, was moving around nearby. Only Xu Huo occasionally conversed with them.

"You’ve been watching the holographic projections all this time, is there something special about them?" Gan Yi moved his neck.

"Nothing much, I’m just afraid I’ll encounter the same danger in the next task. I’m just taking precautionary measures," said Xu Huo, who hadn’t missed a turn despite having seen only the beginnings of most.

Gan Yi smiled, "Since we’re doing nothing, why don’t we play a game?"

"You think it’s not exciting enough now?" You Si ran back to the vicinity, speaking sharply, "Since you’ve got nothing to do, why don’t you come and fight me?"

"It’s just a game, no need to be so tense," Gan Yi quickly raised his hand in refusal, then said, "I see everyone’s nerves are wound tight, might be good to relax a bit."

"What game?" Sha Jia showed interest.

"Fortune Cards." Gan Yi took out a deck of cards the size of poker cards, colored gold, and said, "They say a person’s fate is destined, but fortune can be influenced by personal actions, like how a small choice can affect a person’s luck for a while, even a lifetime."

"How do you play?" Sha Jia inquired further.

"It’s simple," Gan Yi held the cards upright in front of him, hiding his lower face, only his eyes visible to Xu Huo, "You look at the cards, recall recent events, think about what might happen next, draw a card, and the card will display corresponding content which only you can see. You can judge your own fortune based on what you see. If you’re unsure, you can ask me."

"Isn’t this the same as drawing lots and interpreting them?" You Si strode over and snatched a card first.

Gan Yi’s face showed a flash of gloom, but he quickly returned to normal, reminding in a subdued tone, "You must think sincerely to see your own fortune."

You Si tried his best to clear his mind and look at the card. After a while, he threw the card on the ground, "What kind of crap is this!"

"Friend, you’re being a bit too much," Sha Jia helped pick up the card, "It’s just a game."

You Si walked away, his face dark, performing a handstand as he left.

"Let me give it a try," Xu Huo said.

Gan Yi slightly turned his body, presenting the cards to him.

Xu Huo casually drew a card and then heard him say, "Take a look, this is your recent fortune."

Xu Huo glanced down at the card and handed it back, "Just a door, what does that mean?"

Gan Yi looked inadvertently, and the next second, he looked up, his smile gone, and said, "How should I know?"

Xu Huo shrugged, smiling, "You’re not very professional at interpreting, are you?"

Sha Jia next to him stretched out his hand, "I’ll take one."

Without waiting for Gan Yi to respond, he directly drew a card. Moments later, he returned the card with a smile, "Your Fortune Cards are quite interesting. I saw a wooden fish."

"What does the wooden fish mean?"

"Personal fortune, you have to figure it out yourself," Gan Yi said offhandedly, about to put the cards away, but at this moment, Xu Huo and Sha Jia, one on each side, held his shoulders, Xu Huo smiling, "Don’t you want to see your own fortune?"

Gan Yi’s gaze darkened.

"Try it out, you’re a Prop, it will reassure everyone if you try," Xu Huo said.

Gan Yi replied coldly, "You should have said that at the start."

"I forgot just now, it’s not too late to add it," Xu Huo signaled with his eyes to Sha Jia, "Don’t you think so?"

Sha Jia nodded.

Seeing the two unwilling to give up, Gan Yi finally drew a card to look at.

And Xu Huo and Sha Jia asked, one after another:

"Do you see a door?"

"Is there a red wooden fish?"

The black surface of the card twisted like smoke, and Gan Yi saw a door inside the card; a red wooden fish appeared as the door opened.

He abruptly covered the card and looked at the other two.

The three of them sat on the ground, forming a triangular standoff. Two seconds later, the space around them was pulled into darkness, but in an instant, it was bright again. Under the blindingly bright light, the three reappeared on a downward spiraling staircase, with a door coming closer at the forefront!

Then the darkness closed in again from all sides, gradually submerging the door, seemingly regaining the upper hand, but at that moment, a loud "thud" sounded... Gan Yi leaped up from the ground, swiftly distancing himself from Xu Huo and Sha Jia.
