Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 827: Just This Once

Chapter 827: Chapter 827: Just This Once

"What are these people doing?" A few Black Epaulettes who were hiding in the air and responsible for surveillance looked at each other in confusion, with one of them saying, "Could it be that they are hiding something special?"

"Are you blind? Didn’t you see that the Butler is holding a spider!" Another one, angrily said, "Who would hold a funeral for a spider? They must be mocking us!"

Realizing that they had exposed themselves, they reported the incident to their superiors and then left the vicinity of the castle.

After this group left, another was sure to follow. Xu Huo asked Mr. Dong if he could sense the conditions around Rose Castle.

The castle grounds were quite extensive, and there were no other residences nearby, which, coupled with the plentiful greenery, made it an ideal place for an ambush and surveillance. However, the Black Epaulettes preferred the air, which suggested a certain understanding of the castle.

"The area within the boundaries approved and stamped by the Zone 011 Government is my responsibility," Mr. Dong answered.

There were not a few castles in the Ancient City District. Since it wasn’t completely isolated on the outskirts away from the city, the private territory of the castle wasn’t too extensive. Xu Huo had seen Mr. Dong control the castle and thought he was a prop of the same type as the Girl in the painting, but now it seemed there were differences.

Mr. Dong’s true form should be related to the spider, and he also possessed certain intelligence. However, compared to the Girl in the painting who maintained a human form, Xu Huo felt he was more like Yan Jiayu’s Stone Lion.

"Then I’ll trouble you to clear out the players spying near the castle."

Mr. Dong bowed slightly, performing a gentlemanly gesture, "That is my duty."

After nightfall, all the main lights in the castle were extinguished, leaving only a few small lamps lit, barely enough to make out the general shape of the buildings against the night sky.

Perhaps it was an illusion caused by the lighting, but although the shape of the castle hadn’t changed, each of the windows seemed to have shrunk. Large curtains fluttered outside the windows, occasionally casting strange shadows that seemed both real and fake as they moved.

The rose bushes planted in front of and behind the castle also seemed to grow on their own in the darkness of the night, silently climbing upwards, forming oddly shaped walls that concealed the deep architecture. Overgrown branches and stems occasionally reached out of the garden, like hands trying to grasp something.

Black Epaulettes approached the mansion from different directions; their main target was the detached residence and the castle’s third floor.

However, with the height of the front floral wall seemingly suggesting the essence of the Garden Maze behind the castle, the Black Epaulettes couldn’t just casually walk through the front entrance. As they ventured into the dense garden, they found that both the front and rear exits of the garden had been blocked by branches and had no choice but to climb over from above.

Black Epaulettes were equipped with special protective gear that facilitated concealment, but as they moved over these branches, they inevitably scraped the skin that was exposed.

"These things aim for the unprotected spots," complained a player with a bleeding lip. "If you ask me, it would be simpler to just set it on fire. The Law Enforcement Team could come in under the guise of putting out a fire, and search however they like. Didn’t the captain say that Dr. Deng definitely hasn’t left Rose Castle?"

"The old castle might have been an option, but recently, the Butler has replaced all the plants inside and out with Alien species," said a colleague, patting him on the shoulder, "Let’s get the job done first."

A line of people climbed up to a third-floor balcony from the outer wall of the castle, but the last one to climb up suddenly slipped, and fell backwards!

The Black Epaulettes in front instinctively turned back to grab him, but to their surprise, they caught nothing but air, and when they looked down, the person was gone!

"An ambush!" The man immediately retreated into the room, but just then, the window on the side suddenly "bam" smashed against the wall, and under the night vision goggles, a pair of huge red eyeballs emerged from beneath the window, rapidly enlarging!

"Ah, ah, ah!" The Black Epaulette screamed in agony, holding his head. The few ahead turned back just in time to see a giant spider biting and tearing at his head!

"Quick, help!" Members of the same team, all Black Epaulettes, sprang into action, using ice, fire, and poison gas. However, after their onslaught, the giant spider was neither dead nor hurt; instead, it rampaged even more fiercely, and its body started to swell even bigger!

"Is this a mutant or a prop!" A Black Epaulette shouted, "Our tools and props are all useless!"

"Go to the corridor!" Another person backed to the door, "It’s too big to get through!"

A team immediately rushed into the corridor, but the giant spider followed unhindered, smashing through the door and crushing the leg of a Black Epaulette!

The remaining people fought while retreating, but to no avail – none of their methods seemed to work, and as time went by, the spider grew larger and seemed about to reach the top of the corridor!

A few Black Epaulettes, seeing the situation was bad, decided to retreat. Half of them drew the giant spider’s attention, the others went back to rescue their injured teammate, planning to leave separately.

Unfortunately, before they could escape the castle, the spider crushed half of the building, waving its massive legs in the air and on the ground, slashing wildly!

"This spider is too big, is it real or fake?" The Black Epaulettes dodged the spider’s limbs while using their instruments to test; the results were half-real, half-fake.

"We might be in an illusion!" One of them activated a device specifically against mind control, and with a series of low ripples, the player looked ahead and sighed in relief, "It’s not a giant prop, it’s an illusion!"

However, his companion suddenly tackled him to the ground, avoiding a spider leg slashing down from above. Seeing the huge limb deeply piercing the ground, a Black Epaulette said, "Our instruments might be malfunctioning, and even the test results you saw might not be real. We shouldn’t stay here long—let’s go!"

And so, the squad ran out the way they had come in, escaping from the castle in a disheveled rush. On their way to the rally point, they encountered two other teams.

The team that went to the guesthouse fared especially badly; most of them were carried out, their faces a riot of colors.

"What happened?"

They all knew that the guesthouse was home to many poisonous spiders, all secured in glass cases—untouchable, untroubled, how then could so many be poisoned at once?

After two robots scanned them, Cheng Bing (Male) reported, "All members have experienced significant mental fluctuations, indicating they were subjects to psychic attacks in the last ten minutes. Apart from five members with deeper poisoning, the rest had minor injuries."

Yes, all minor injuries; the Black Epaulette who was "crushed beneath the spider’s legs" was also lifted out and, stimulated by Cheng Bing (Female)’s device, promptly stood up.

"Wait, there’s a note on your back." Cheng Bing (Female) stopped him, removed the note, read it, and concurrently sent the content through her camera to Ran Ying at the Enforcement Department:

"Only this once."
