Chapter 802: Chapter 802: From the Results, Voluntary and Coerced are the Same
The black-clad player who was sent flying was caught by a companion, who quickly set down the severely injured person and charged toward Xu Huo:
Two layers of jelly-like substance struck from Xu Huo’s left and right, bubbling like boiling water. The splashing liquid was highly corrosive—it could even dissolve building materials!
Xu Huo stepped forward, "Like Repels Like" repelled the black-clad player, causing even the "Jelly Wall" to destabilize and get pulled backwards before collapsing on the spot.
Items that look impressive but aren’t very useful seemed to disappoint both sides. The black-clad player put on gloves and when he raised his hand, the surrounding debris lifted into the air!
The messy mix almost formed a thick wall, but charging took too long. Before it could be hurled, Xu Huo dashed to the black-clad player’s side, grabbed his face through a layer of Diamond Gloves, and violently smashed it against the exhibit wall behind!
"Bang!" The wall sported a huge hole, and the player’s head was split open. Not giving him a chance to react, Xu Huo’s grip tightened and he repeatedly slammed the player’s head into the wall until blood splattered and the sound of a snapping neck echoed.
After tossing away the corpse, Xu Huo’s fury did not dissipate. He pulled out the "Eye of the Deceased" and turned to face the other black-clad players closing in on him.
After killing six people, someone yelled to the ones charging forward, angrily shouting, "Are you blind? This guy is just a passerby. Go after the group that blew up the building—don’t let any of them escape!"
The one who mentioned the explosion referred to Chi Nan and others. Now, Chi Nan and two teammates had disappeared, leaving only Lao Zhou. Surrounded and severely injured by the black-clad players, he looked toward Xu Huo several times during his retreat.
Unfortunately, Xu Huo did not spare him a glance. After no one attacked him, he stopped intervening and turned to dig out the Awakening Doll from the ruins.
Since the Awakening Doll was in use as the prop to start the instance, he couldn’t just take it. Frustrated that the item specifically meant to restrict Jiang Jiang was useless and even demanded time to retrieve, Xu Huo’s expression darkened as he stood before the doll, saying, "I’ll come back in three days."
Time spent in random instances was generally long, but he had no intention of lingering in Zone 009. Whether he could retrieve the Awakening Doll would be up to luck.
After the one-sided notification, he turned and left the building.
"Save me..." As he stepped through the doorway, an almost spent Lao Zhou couldn’t help but call out for help and said, "We only killed politicians who use Evolvers as test subjects! In the past year, they’ve killed nearly two hundred Evolvers!"
Xu Huo paused, released a kite string to pull Lao Zhou up, and quickly left the building using his trait.
Perhaps other players are known for their speed, but none could keep up with him continuously, especially since using traits for a speed boost didn’t use up much stamina.
Once sure the black-clad players hadn’t followed, Xu Huo found a hidden spot, set down Lao Zhou, and walked away.
Lao Zhou wanted to call out to him, but seeing the look Xu Huo gave him as he turned around, he instinctively swallowed his words.
By then, it was no longer possible to find accommodation in the safe zone, so Xu Huo randomly chose a residential building’s rooftop as a place to rest, only to find someone already there.
The other person, clearly also a player, was drinking and barbecuing and even offered him a drink, "Want a sip?"
Xu Huo politely declined and ate his own dry food.
The man didn’t seem interested in much chatter and continued eating his own food after being declined.
After finishing his meal, Xu Huo leaned against the railing, fiddling with Jiang Jiang’s paintbrush in his hand.
Jiang Jiang meant it when she said she’d give it away. Before entering the gaming world, she voluntarily relinquished the prop, making it his now.
[Painter’s Brush: A magical brush that can turn any person or object into a painting model. Who could refuse the chance to be immortalized on a wall? Note: Users must comply with labor laws, balancing work with rest.]
Interestingly, it was a Rank-C Item.
Jiang Jiang responding to the bounty platform message caught Xu Huo off-guard, but it also shed light on a few things. From her actions, it seemed she was teetering on the edge of sanity.
Anticipating her own death, she showed signs of resignation. "Unable to change a foreseen future" was likely a conclusion she reached after many experiments. Knowing she would die but still staying in Zone 009 and even seeking him out indicated significant mental strain from a long "waiting to die."
That pressure had no outlet, leading her to disregard the lives around her completely—she even facilitated their deaths, like the player who died in the gallery earlier.
However, the instinct to survive is strong, so she fled after a failed mutual destruction attempt.
From a negative perspective, Xu Huo lost a chance to capitalize on her self-destructive impulse.
But on a positive note, a person on the brink found joy in living and was willing to return to normalcy.
With things as they were, Xu Huo didn’t hold much hope for Jiang Jiang anymore; she was probably hiding something, but it likely wasn’t what he had anticipated, especially not something cultivated by the doctor from the Seventeenth Hospital—her mental state wasn’t stable enough.
Storing the paintbrush back in his prop inventory, Xu Huo closed his eyes to rest.
About ten minutes later, around a dozen players arrived on the rooftop.
These people were with the barbecue player and used a Muffler Artefact after exchanging greetings.
A few minutes later, someone approached him and said, "Bro, mind making some space?"
"Sure thing." Xu Huo stood up, cushioned himself, and jumped to the adjacent building’s rooftop—not too far given the spaces between buildings. This motion wouldn’t have been possible for him before trait evolution.
Three buildings over, he sat down to rest again.
Coincidentally, there was also someone on this roof. The person gave him a thumbs-up, "Nice skills, brother!"
Xu Huo glanced at the still-early sky: better find an underground parking lot.
Nodding at the man, he entered the staircase, planning to take the elevator down.
Ignoring those lurking on the floors below, he reached the ground level and left the residential area as fast as possible.
He didn’t plan to get involved in others’ fights, but two players started following him after he descended.
