Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die! -
Chapter 787: Conversation
Chapter 787: Chapter 787: Conversation
"What do you think?" Xu Huo threw the question back at her.
"Half right, half wrong," Jiang Jiang said, looking down. "I can tell you’re a very kind person, but some people love the thrills and excitement in the game. Regardless of their nature, people keep coming with all sorts of purposes. Are you the type of person who would sacrifice yourself for your family and friends?"
"It depends," Xu Huo said, his hands braced on the windowsill as he looked at the swaying Wormhole Flowers outside. "People are complex, their moods and thoughts change at every moment. You can’t guarantee how you’ll react in extreme situations when everything is calm, just as how you act in danger can’t represent the entirety of a person."
"That’s a bit philosophical," said Jiang Jiang with a shy smile. "You are someone who thinks deeply."
Xu Huo neither refuted her assessment of him nor offered an opinion of her, but instead said, "There are trains for ordinary people; you could go and visit other zones. Maybe you’ll meet someone who is truly kindhearted."
Jiang Jiang smiled, "It’s dangerous out there, I wouldn’t dare go alone."
"You have so many people protecting you." Xu Huo nodded his chin at the players upstairs and downstairs, and then at another standing afar, "You don’t have to worry about safety."
Yet, Jiang Jiang shook her head firmly, "Even a safe place like a hotel can have accidents, not to mention other zones. Besides, they’re not with me every day."
"More importantly, I can’t risk their lives just to satisfy my own curiosity."
Upon hearing this, Xu Huo chuckled lightly, "You’re more suited to being a quiet painter."
Jiang Jiang turned her head to look at him, playfully saying, "Then, would you like to be my model?"
Xu Huo didn’t answer her question, but suddenly reached out towards the side of her head.
Jiang Jiang instinctively stepped back, but the next second she saw Xu Huo pluck a piece of fluff from her hair. Her face flushed slightly, "Thank you."
"Bang!" The iron gate in the courtyard below made a noise, and both looked down just in time to see Song Xu come in, his face clenched in anger.
Xu Huo raised an eyebrow, "Is he your boyfriend?"
Jiang Jiang replied, troubled, "He’s overprotective. Not everyone who approaches me has ulterior motives, and you even saved me during a crisis."
Song Xu, apparently lacking her self-awareness, charged upstairs, opened the door to the studio, and said with suppressed anger, "Jiang Jiang, could you come out for a moment? I need to talk to you."
Jiang Jiang smiled apologetically at Xu Huo, "There’s a cinema on the lower floor; you can go relax there."
Xu Huo left amiably.
Unable to hear their conversation, Xu Huo found a player to guide him to the underground cinema.
Bian Yongyi was sitting anxiously waiting for him. Seeing Xu Huo, he couldn’t help but say, "Aren’t we going back?"
"We’ll leave in a while," Xu Huo said. However, his actions didn’t seem like those of someone who planned to leave soon. After reaching the cinema on the lower floor, he first looked at the menu of films, then chose to watch a documentary about a well-known painter from a particular game zone.
"Three hours..." Bian Yongyi noted the duration. "Shall I get some popcorn?"
"Whatever you want," Xu Huo responded without looking up.
Realizing he had decided to have lunch there, Bian Yongyi sat for a while before saying he would go check on something.
However, he returned after only a few minutes, bringing popcorn and drinks, settling on the couch, "I think I’ll just watch the movie."
The Buzz Cut youth, unsurprisingly, was lurking outside the villa, waiting all morning before realizing no one was in the house. After spotting Bian Yongyi poking his head out, he followed him to the villa where Jiang Jiang lived, but before he got close, he was warned off by the players.
The Buzz Cut knew what kind of place this was and had no choice but to leave sullenly.
However, this brought trouble, as the player told Jiang Jiang about the incident.
Jiang Jiang didn’t react much, but Song Xu was quite dissatisfied, feeling that Xu Huo and the other were sticking around just to avoid danger.
Jiang Jiang, nestled on the sofa with hands propping up her chin, lazily said, "Don’t talk like that, Xu Zhi is very capable, ordinary people are no match for him."
"Is it because of the trick he pulled yesterday at the hotel?" Song Xu laughed, "He just took advantage of the props to get ahead. Without President Chang and his people, he would have had only one way to die."
"I don’t think so..." Jiang Jiang’s lips curved into a smile, "I believe that even if he were alone, he would definitely be able to protect me."
After hearing this, Song Xu stopped talking. A moment later he said, "I’ve never doubted your intuition. Since you think he’s capable, why not rope him in? It’s always good to have one more person to protect you."
Jiang Jiang’s eyes widened slightly as if she was surprised and looked at him, "Don’t you really dislike him?"
Song Xu sat next to her and patted her shoulder with restraint, "Whether I like him or not is a minor issue, your safety is what’s most important."
Jiang Jiang then turned and asked the other players, "Would you like to have an additional companion?"
The players who were willing to protect her day and night naturally wouldn’t oppose her suggestion, and unsurprisingly, it was unanimously approved. Jiang Jiang cheered quietly, hugging a cushion and falling onto the sofa, happily saying, "Now we just need to convince him!"
"Offer him tickets to the safe copy, how could he refuse?" Song Xu said as if it were obvious.
However, when Jiang Jiang brought up the subject, Xu Huo outright refused.
"Someone else is waiting for me." He said, "I can’t stay in Zone 009 forever. But I can protect you while I’m here."
Jiang Jiang didn’t insist, "Alright then, I want to go out and clear my head this afternoon."
Xu Huo smiled and agreed.
When it was time to leave after lunch, he noticed Jiang Jiang had brought her painting supplies. He paused and then said, "Why don’t you break free from painting today, and I’ll take you on something thrilling?"
The others all looked up, and Song Xu, with a disgruntled face, said, "How do you want to thrill?"
Isn’t Zone 009 thrilling enough?
"Just a new game." Xu Huo looked at Jiang Jiang, "Dare you?"
Jiang Jiang hesitated for a moment and then put down her painting supplies and took his hand to get on the car.
Bian Yongyi wasn’t on the list to go along. He was left in the villa. Song Xu told him to make himself at home. Not wanting to leave, he promptly gave Xu Huo a way to contact him, emphasizing repeatedly, "Contact me if you need anything, don’t be polite."
Xu Huo took Jiang Jiang to a ghost house.
"This is your idea of thrilling?" Song Xu asked incredulously, as the ghost house had been out of operation, right?
"I’ve heard that places like this might have real ones mixed in with the fake." Xu Huo said, "Though it’s just an urban legend, verifying it could be fun."
Jiang Jiang wasn’t very enthusiastic, but she went along anyway. They hadn’t been inside for two minutes when she grabbed Xu Huo’s clothes and screamed, "Did you see that? An ugly, shapeless Ghost Shadow just floated by!"
She wasn’t the only one who saw it. Song Xu and another player immediately chased after it, with two others following behind them.
The rhythmic sound of footsteps echoed in the narrow space. Xu Huo, who was leading the way, suddenly stopped and turned to look at the people behind him.
Jiang Jiang had already let go of his clothes, and in her hand, now held a paintbrush without anyone knowing when it appeared.
