Chapter 780: Special Trait "Please Sit
Chapter 780: Chapter 780: Special Trait "Please Sit
[Congratulations to the player for obtaining a special trait. Special traits differ from occupational traits, as they randomly arise based on the player’s performance in the instance and usually have no correlation with occupational traits, but are closely related to the content of the instance.]
[Please Sit: Be it a house or a room, regardless of whether it is registered under an exact person’s name, or whether its owner is still alive, when someone enters this space, an appropriate host-guest relationship should be established.]
[When the host says "Please Sit," a qualified guest should politely take a seat as directed by the host, and maintain a friendly host-guest relationship for three minutes. If the guest attempts to violate the host-guest relationship, they will be forcibly made to "Please Sit" for half a minute, whereas if the host violates the host-guest relationship, the relationship is declared over.]
[However, please note that the "Please Sit" feature is limited to a single, room-like space, and such a space must have at least one chair. In specific spaces, such as inside large props, whether the trait is effective depends on the particular situation.]
[Of course, players should also be cautious when choosing whom to have "Please Sit." Guests with a quick temper are often likely to flip the table after the host-guest time. And if the guest successfully rejects the host’s "Please Sit" from the start, then no host-guest relationship exists.]
[Limited to one use per day.]
In short, the "Please Sit" trait can only be used in a smaller, isolated space, which can be construed as a bedroom or a living or dining room. When the host says "Please Sit," anyone except those who can negate the trait’s effect will automatically take a seat and must maintain this for three minutes.
During these three minutes, if a player becomes hostile, that player will be forcibly stuck to the chair for half a minute. This means that during the three minutes of "Please Sit," players are free to move around. Whether they can attack other guests remains to be verified, but they definitely cannot attack the host.
Given that it is a friendly host-guest time, guests are probably unable to attack each other as well.
Naturally, during these three minutes, the "Please Sit" host also shouldn’t attempt to attack guests, or the trait’s effect will be declared over.
Players who were initially unaffected by the trait are not within the scope of the host-guest relationship, so it’s permissible for them to attack the host or to be attacked by the host, but it’s uncertain what would happen if they attack seated guests.
This is a trait well-suited for a prominent opening, and beyond the host-guest relationship, there could be some unexpected clever uses.
The fact that such a fine trait came from an instance that was not too difficult was an unexpected pleasure. Xu Huo opened his item bar contentedly, planning to merge an item first.
There were three options available for merging; he picked the "Chance of Escaping from Death" and the newly obtained Rank-C item "Aiming Device," because merging these two could exchange for a special item.
After selecting, the item for exchange quickly appeared in the item bar:
[Ant Nest Marker: A tiny body containing enormous energy. As insects that have been a perpetual nuisance to dam repair workers from ancient times to the present, after several evolutions, they have developed the ability to bore holes in various materials. With each upgrade to building materials, the ants finally made a qualitative leap, acquiring a new ability to effortlessly find weak points on any structure.]
[Artifact Makers were inspired by these diminutive insects, leading to the creation of the Ant Nest Marker. Using it, you can mark a relatively weaker area within an enclosed space, and no matter how the location changes or is disguised, the marking will never disappear. Whether or not you can successfully escape from this marked point, however, depends on the player’s own abilities.]
This item was a good deal; the "Chance of Escaping from Death" could specifically assess the likelihood of escape but required cumbersome testing, whereas the "Ant Nest Marker" was much more straightforward and intuitive. Moreover, no matter how the position shifted, the marking would not vanish. Numeric values became less important because if one were trapped in a place with no apparent escape, the high or low value would be irrelevant, as there would be only one path.
Closing the game panel, Xu Huo logged into the network platform to check his messages.
One of the two detectives he had hired replied: the boy among the two children who had immigrated overseas was confirmed dead along with his parents, having been swept away by a tsunami five years ago, with no bodies recovered, officially declared dead.
After transferring the final payment, Xu Huo cleared his online traces and left the immigration office.
An empty house attracts more attention, after all, there were quite a few wandering players looking for a place to stay.
After leaving the immigration office, he found a hotel in a safer area.
Unexpectedly, he ran into Ye Yingdong while checking in; Ye Yingdong was resting in the lobby with his sister and several other players.
Acknowledging each other from a distance with a nod, Xu Huo overheard the people around him talking and learned that this hotel belonged to a Player Organization, and one-third of the security had been replaced with players, which is why many politicians and tycoons were willing to pay a high price to stay here. Still, the hotel reserved some rooms especially for players.
Having not had a proper rest for several days, Xu Huo took a bath first before having the hotel deliver a meal.
The food cart also came with a bottle of wine.
"I didn’t ask for wine."
"This is a special gift from our hotel," said the waiter, smiling politely. "It’s a special wine infused with a Self-healing Potion. Both the taste and the healing effects are excellent; every player staying in the hotel can drink it for free."
Xu Huo wasn’t much interested and asked him to leave the stuff and go.
He dined by the window, which offered a view of the street scene below. The security around the hotel was surprisingly good, but the situation was less marvelous further away, with several plumes of smoke rising into the sky in the distance and the sound of sirens and warning alarms non-stop.
While eating, he casually browsed through the hot topics online. A large portion of them condemned the players who came to Zone 009, not to enter instances but to burn, kill, and plunder. Netizens referred to such people as "looting players."
Looting referred to people displaced by disasters; innately without emotional connotations, but when applied to players, it was a direct satire, equating them to actual looters—players without a fixed abode or the capability, forced to wander about, picking on ordinary people for benefits—while real players were engaged in battles within instances, especially now when instances had just opened, providing an ideal time to find items.
That was just the first wave; the second wave was expected soon, focused on looting items. Perhaps a lot of high-level items with pictures and authenticity would emerge this time.
"I wonder if there will be any Super Props..." Xu Huo’s movements paused slightly. If high-level items appeared in Zone 009, the situation was bound to be more brutal than it was initially in Zone 014.
"Knock, knock, knock!" Someone was at the door.
