Chapter 774: Chapter 774: Seemingly Simple but Actually Full of Traps
After the man in the raincoat and his companion left, the three players who believed they had offended Xu Huo also followed suit, leaving mostly the players who were originally on the third floor, along with a red-haired man who lingered and refused to leave, and another male player who was the only remaining companion of Lu Zhen.
"Bro, thanks for that just now," the man who had almost been strangled to death thanked him again, and with a sigh added, "I didn’t expect there to still be strong and capable players like you in the game. I thought..."
The rest of his sentence was unnecessary; good guys die young.
"No need to thank me for a great kindness. My name is Meng San. If there’s anything I can help with, just say the word. I owe you my life!"
There are now sixteen players left. Apart from the four who died the night before last, Dollface and his companion seized the opportunity to kill two more. Now there are eight people on the third floor and eight people on the second floor.
Two players who had come with the man in the raincoat left with him just now, leaving nine people on the third floor.
No one was killed last night, but Xu Huo went to check the rooms where people had died the night before last; the bodies were left as they were in the bathroom, with no sign of being searched.
"Who left their room last night?" he asked.
The players looked at one another until finally, Liang Chong spoke up, "I know, but it’s not suitable to talk about it in front of so many people."
"Let’s talk inside the room." Xu Huo took the lead by entering the guest bedroom next door. Lu Zhen, Liang Chong, his roommate Feng Guang, the recently injured Meng San, and Zhao Xiaojing from the night before, who was undoubtedly part of his faction, kept the rest outside. Lu Zhen pointed to one and said, "I remember you came with the man in the raincoat yesterday."
The player quickly waved his hands, "I’m not involved with him. It was just a coincidence, just like how you guys met him, right?"
"But I’m on bad terms with them," Red-Haired quickly clarified his position. "Didn’t you see those two maniacs going at me yesterday? How could I possibly help them!"
"Everybody come in," Xu Huo interrupted their argument.
As the group surged into the room, he continued, "The Temporary Host’s time is over, and the fact they haven’t left means they haven’t cleared the game. Now we can talk about it without consequences. We need to figure out why the clearance failed."
Several eyes were fixed on Liang Chong, who hesitated a moment before looking at Feng Guang.
Feng Guang bit his lip, "It was me who left the room last night. There are special requirements for the Temporary Host in the game, which I can’t reveal."
"Why can’t you tell us?" Red-Haired couldn’t help but say, "If you tell us, we can all discuss it together."
Feng Guang shut his mouth tightly, "I don’t know why I didn’t clear it, I did everything the game asked."
"If you don’t tell us, no one will know what happened," Lu Zhen said, "Otherwise, just tell Liang Chong. You should trust him, at least."
Living in the same room, it was impossible for Liang Chong to not know. Neither had said anything just now, obviously having reached a consensus.
"It’s a mandatory requirement of the game that you can’t tell?" Xu Huo asked.
Feng Guang paused, visibly hesitant.
"Never mind if you don’t want to tell," Xu Huo stood up to leave.
"Wait!" The one who stopped him was Liang Chong, "I know too... The game’s requirements are actually quite simple. You come over here, I’ll tell you alone."
Xu Huo rubbed his brow, signaling Lu Zhen and the others to step back, then took out the Silent Figurine, "Can we talk now?"
Liang Chong covered his mouth with his hand before speaking, "Actually, part of the game’s requirements are public, such as keeping the villa clean and tidy. The exact wording of the second requirement is, as the master of the villa, to ensure the safety of the villa and guest rooms during the night."
"So Feng Guang went to the second floor rooms last night to meet the second requirement?" Xu Huo thought of the two bodies that hadn’t been disposed of and guessed where the problem lay.
One of the rules of being the Temporary Host is to keep the villa clean and tidy, which strictly speaking includes disposing of bodies. Moreover, the second requirement to ensure the safety of the villa and guest rooms probably includes patrolling the premises as part of it, and there might be an implicit requirement to ensure the guests’ safety as well.
The villa allows the Temporary Host to kill, but killing is not mandatory.
The Temporary Host is permitted to kill but also has to keep the villa clean, which slightly conflicts with each other. Therefore, the player who took action on the first night killed four people in such a way that neither harmed the villa nor failed to kill, which should have allowed clearance.
However, the opponent didn’t succeed, indicating that there was a specific purpose to the third privilege of the Temporary Host. In other words, killing a player is within the range of privileges, and any damage to the villa or breach of cleanliness during the process of killing should be within the scope of the Temporary Host’s privileges and allowed.
Of course, to be safe, not killing is preferable. However, the game will notify the Temporary Host individually to ensure the safety of the villa and guest rooms, so it’s likely that Temporary Hosts need to enter the guest rooms, and they must enter rooms with guests. Whether or not to kill is secondary; most likely, just by entering a guest room at night, the Temporary Host won’t end with just one death.
This scenario’s rules are written clearly, imposing many restrictions on players who become guests, and leaving the home field to the Temporary Host after dark. At first glance, clearing it doesn’t seem difficult, but upon actual implementation, there are many ambiguities in the rules, which might directly cause the "Temporary Host" to fail in clearing the scenario.
Once the clearance fails, players may in turn sabotage others’ chances at clearance.
Relying on all players to cooperate is impossible, so the earlier you clear this scenario, the easier it is. Those who can’t clear later on will certainly find ways to drag others down, and the method to do so is simple: just prevent someone from returning to their room at night.
One could say that this is a scenario that seems simple but is full of traps. If the vicious cycle continues, either everyone fails to clear, or players keep killing each other until maybe only one person is left who might be able to clear it.
"How about it? Have you figured out the reason?" Liang Chong stared at him intently.
Xu Huo gave him a look, "Not yet. Let’s see who it turns out to be tonight."
Liang Chong couldn’t possibly force the truth out of him, so he simply nodded, "Then let’s use a secret signal tonight. Whoever becomes the Temporary Host will knock on the door. We have to try to find out how to clear."
The Silent Figurine had already been put away, and Feng Guang quickly asked, "What about me? I didn’t clear!"
Xu Huo comforted, "This scenario should continue in a cycle. Everyone might have the chance to be the Temporary Host. After one round, there should be a second chance."
