Chapter 746 Mirror Hotel

Chapter 746: Chapter 746 Mirror Hotel

The person still had half a face left, smeared with so much blood that it was nearly unrecognizable, but the clothes hanging on the body could still be identified. He was one of the players who had arrived at the Corpse-Hiding Hotel on the first night with Liu Chengyi. Liu Chengyi hadn’t lied; the person had indeed gone missing.

Picking up an object at random, Xu Huo used it to push aside the fabric on the corpse and carefully examined the bite marks left behind, only to find they didn’t match human teeth at all. They rather resembled the tearing and biting of a large predator.

Could the Corpse-Hiding Hotel be harboring a mutated animal?

Before he could walk away from the body, a faint scraping sound suddenly came from outside, as if something was moving down the corridor towards them, intermittently accompanied by heavy breathing.

Xu Huo’s brows furrowed deeply, and he immediately draped the Invisibility Cloak over himself, then took out the potion "Mesmerizing Good Stuff," creating a tiny opening to slowly release the foul smell.

A shadow appeared at the door.

Because of the dim light in the corridor, the light coming from the corner lengthened that shadow, allowing people to catch a glimpse of it before it even reached the doorway—the creature’s forelimbs touched the ground and it had a huge head, somewhat resembling a lion in shape, especially when it reached the door and its breath suddenly grew heavy, which was distinctly different from that of ordinary predators.

The stench in the room kept pouring out, and the beast outside took two deep sniffs before turning and walking away. However, as it left, whether from irritation caused by the olfactory stimulation or something else, it suddenly slammed a claw against the wall!

Several sharp, hook-like nails directly penetrated the wall, slicing from top to bottom like through paper, leaving four gashes before being retracted. In the darkness, fur with patterns briefly flashed past the freshly made cracks.

Hearing footsteps outside, Xu Huo was about to approach the doorway, holding the piano wire in preparation, but what he never expected was that the beast would suddenly return and violently leap at the wall!

Half of the wall, along with the doorframe, was torn apart. Xu Huo, who had just reached the doorway, had to run fast, nearly getting knocked down by the creature!

In the midst of dodging, he also got a clear look at the "predator." It was covered in beast skin all over, but its body size was at least twice that of a typical male lion. To say nothing of standing up, even on all fours, it could reach the height of an adult’s shoulders, so it wasn’t surprising that it could knock down a wall with a single pounce.

However, unlike its body, its head resembled that of a newborn mouse, completely hairless, not to mention, its skin was covered with crack-like patterns. Its eyes were especially large, bulging like balls, and when its mouth opened, a layer of flexible membrane connected both sides, allowing it to open to a startlingly wide angle.

But the most eerie part about this "beast" were those human-like faces hidden in its fur, complete with eyes and nose, even displaying half-real, half-fake expressions as the creature moved!

After just one glance, Xu Huo immediately realized that the human faces on the creature’s body were real. Of course, these faces couldn’t possibly be alive, but to transplant human faces onto an animal—this was beyond common perversity.

It wasn’t clear what state the creature was in now, but a foul smell of decay was emanating from its body.

After dodging an attack, Xu Huo retreated into the corridor, standing still next to the creature with the cover of the Invisibility Cloak and the potion, knowing that the slightest noise could attract its attention—no need to take that risk.

The creature that had smashed down the wall found no prey and entered the room. It lazily took a couple bites of the corpse and then swaggered out, tail swishing. When it got to the corridor, it stopped again and suddenly turned, breathing in the direction where Xu Huo was standing.

The smell of blood and decay hit him square in the face; between human and beast, only the distance of a palm separated them. Its amber eyes met Xu Huo’s directly, as if it could truly see a person, staring intently for a long duration.

Xu Huo’s heartbeat accelerated for a moment, but then quickly calmed down again. He breathed lightly, not dodging or even making any unnecessary movements.

It lasted for about ten seconds before the monster turned its head and walked into the deeper darkness along the corridor.

As the elevator in the hallway opened and closed, ensuring it had gone to another floor, Xu Huo breathed a sigh of relief. After putting away his props, he went and knocked on the room next door.

Xiao Ling and Yu Guangnan, who had been hiding behind the door, hurried to open it and pulled him inside, whispering fiercely, "Are you trying to get yourself killed? What if it heard you?"

"Unless one stays completely still, that beast can hear any movement," Xu Huo said. "You’re both unharmed? It didn’t attack you?"

Yu Guangnan looked at him with admiration, "It seems the monster only attacks those who walk about. As long as the door is shut, there’s no problem."

"That’s what another player I ran into when I came in said."

"How many others are here?" Xu Huo gestured outside, "I just saw a corpse. That thing doesn’t look like it would conserve food. If it didn’t eat it all, it’s probably because it wasn’t hungry. There can’t be many survivors."

"If it’s just about the tickets, there definitely aren’t many players." Yu Guangnan said, "The three who came to the Corpse-Hiding Hotel with us in the same batch, I saw all their corpses. But there are others who came in before us, up on the higher floors."

As he spoke, he tiptoed to the window and pulled on a thin wire hanging down from above. After a moment, someone poked their head out from above.

The person looked panic-stricken and worn out, with dark circles under their eyes. They must have been trapped here for days. Seeing Yu Guangnan, their attitude was far from friendly, "I told you already, we can’t have too many people in a room..."

Before they could finish, they suddenly stared at the new figure by the window, unable to hide their astonishment, "It’s you!"

"What a coincidence." Xu Huo recognized the person as well; it was none other than Peng Fengnian, someone he had collaborated with in the Skinning Artisan’s instance. When Peng Fengnian left that instance, he had even given him a paper cell phone, and they had contacted each other once using it afterward.

In the game, the chance of players from different zones meeting again in an instance for the second time is minuscule, not just because there are countless instances but also because of the high player mortality rate. Encountering an "acquaintance" can’t help but make one feel that this game world isn’t entirely filled with boundless despair.

Peng Fengnian was overjoyed, not wasting a second before scrambling down to enthusiastically shake hands with Xu Huo, "Fate, pure fate. Who would’ve thought we’d meet again? I’ve been through so many instances, met so many players, but you’re the one I admire the most!"

Peng Fengnian was a player from Zone 009. Xu Huo had wanted to contact him using the paper cell phone before, but unfortunately, it seemed that Peng had the bad luck to be trapped in an instance already.

"Judging by your looks, you’ve been stuck here for quite some time?"

Peng Fengnian sighed with a gloomy expression, "Five days. For these five days, I’ve barely slept a wink... Have you seen that thing wandering around the hotel?"

Xu Huo nodded, "The monster doesn’t attack players hiding in their rooms. Haven’t you found any chance to leave this place?"

"We can’t find one, can’t get out," Peng Fengnian said despondently, "This is a Mirror Hotel."
