Chapter 740 Downsizing
Chapter 740: Chapter 740 Downsizing
Xu Huo didn’t linger and continued to move forward because someone was catching up from behind.
After putting on the Invisibility Prop Suit, he grasped the violin string and walked on.
The invisibility suit couldn’t completely hide his tracks and wasn’t very safe. After waiting a bit ahead, and after someone showed up, he released the "poster of repentance" and watched the ugly face follow the wall towards the players chasing him before he quickly sped off.
The group that arrived later discovered his boat. One of them said, "The boat is here; where did the person go?"
"Players have many tricks; maybe he realized we were following and just abandoned the boat to flee." Another person said, "Anyway, there’s only one way in Ming River, he has no other choice but to go forward, he can’t escape."
After a brief discussion, the group continued to follow the waterway, but as they turned a corner, the player at the end drew his sword and swung back, shouting, "Sneaking around, come out!"
The player next to him was holding something that resembled a game console. He said, "There’s no one near us."
"Impossible!" the player who took action immediately protested, "There’s definitely someone!"
It’s common for prop effects to shield other prop effects. The player at the front threw something resembling a pebble into the water, and immediately several thin jets of water sprayed out from the waterway but fell back into the water after rising a few meters.
"My prop will only attack living people. If there’s no target, that means there’s no one nearby." The player at the front asked, "Did you mistake the special effects from the gallery for a person?"
After failing to find anyone twice in a row, this player also began to doubt himself and hesitated before saying, "Maybe I really saw it wrong."
The boat continued to move forward. The players passed the Tombstone Area in silence, but as they made the next turn, the players who were facing forward all turned at once, indeed seeing a shadow flash by at the stern of the boat!
"There really is someone!" The two players at the stern immediately gave chase.
There weren’t many people to begin with; Xu Huo had killed two just now, and with two more gone, there were only three left.
In the game, it’s best not to be alone. These three people stopped the boat in the middle of the waterway and were about to turn around when the boat was suddenly overturned by a strong force, followed by several figures jumping out from the water. One of them, his face wrapped and with a fierce look, pounced towards the nearest player and roared, "Bullying with numbers, here you are again!"
When the player saw him, he sneered and pressed on his chest, ejecting a large doughnut-like object. Long Aotian, who was a meter or two away, was bounced off but grabbed the nearby wall to halt his momentum and swung his sword back!
The player on guard used the Defensive Blade to block the strike, but while he was protected at the front, he failed to notice from behind as Xiao Ling, after knocking a player away with a toy car, turned and threw an Indiscriminate Attack Short Arrow. In the narrow waterway, its unpredictable movements left no time for precautions, making such props particularly effective in chaotic fights.
The player fighting Long Aotian, after his companion dodged the arrow, was pierced in the chest by it, immediately followed by a trap tearing open his belly!
Unpleasant things spilled from the wound as the player clutched at it, but Long Aotian didn’t miss the opportunity, finished him off with another strike, and kicked the body into the waterway.
With one dead, of the remaining two, one turned out to be a dummy. The player controlling the puppet used it to block a strike from Xiao Ling, then climbed the wall like a gecko, heading towards the entrance of Ming River from the top.
A fine wire shot after him, piercing through the wall and tearing off large pieces of stone like ripping a piece of cloth. The fleeing player failed to hold on and fell down, only to be cornered by Yu Guangnan stepping on the water surface, who landed a punch in his midsection.
Yu Guangnan wore a pair of special gloves, and when he struck a person, the formidable force that burst from the back of his hand even shattered the player’s clothes. When the crackling sound of breaking bones was heard, the player was thrown out several meters into the water.
Long Aotian could no longer hold back, and with a flick of Little Knife upward, a cold light sliced through the surface of the water aiming at the man. However, the opponent reacted quickly as well, turning around in the water to dodge, and then scrambled to flee forward.
Long Aotian initially wanted to pursue, but the man had not run a few meters when he suddenly sank underwater, as if something had yanked him down!
The special characteristic of Yu Guangnan’s prop had a connection with water, so the three of them were able to hide underwater to wait for an opportunity to act. When they had gone down just before, aside from some bones, they didn’t discover anything else.
However, just to be safe, the three of them exchanged looks and all returned to the boat at the same time.
There was no movement from under the water, and just as they were suspecting that the other party had escaped, blood mixed with chunks of flesh surged up.
Yu Guangnan poked it with a stick, "There are signs of large beasts tearing and biting, could there be crocodiles in the water?"
"We should be able to notice if crocodiles approached us," Xiao Ling frowned, "Forget about it, let’s leave."
The three of them walked on towards the entrance of the Ming River and didn’t go far before they encountered another corpse. Long Aotian said, "He’s one of their group; out of six people, now only one remains."
"They had been chasing someone in here; there must have been other players passing by earlier. The ones trying to double back were killed, and there were also people coming down after them," Xiao Ling said.
"Be careful," Yu Guangnan reminded.
After walking a short distance down the waterway and turning a corner, they just happened to see the remaining player stumbling against the stone wall—it looked like he was hanging in mid-air, and also as if he was running away.
The light in the waterway was too dim, and he could only make out the other person’s shadow and unusual movements. By the time Yu Guangnan used a lighting prop, the person had already turned into a corpse that fell straight into the water, and at the same time, a ghostly shadow flashed past the corner of the stone wall.
"What is that thing? It can’t be a living person with that appearance, can it?" Long Aotian also saw it, "Could it be a prop from the gallery?"
After experiencing the Wax Figure Gallery and the Doll Riot, nothing moving in Museum City would surprise them now; what was key was the level of danger of the object.
"Perhaps it’s another player’s prop."
However, having come this far, they couldn’t just retreat. Just as the three were about to continue, a twisting ribbon of light suddenly swam into the canal. Before they could react, the small boat was swiftly sucked toward it. Yu Guangnan’s nostrils flared, and he immediately turned pale, "It’s those people from last night."
Compared to those encountered moments ago, the players who ambushed them last night were truly formidable, and they only retreated because the player who fought Xu Huo had sent a signal.
"Let’s go!" Xiao Ling quickly turned around and hung a prop resembling a propeller at the stern of the boat. A burst of force quickly sent the small boat racing back the way they came, but the waterway was winding, and the prop could not be fully utilized, forcing them to use it intermittently.
"There’s no way forward anyway, aren’t we trapped underground now?" Long Aotian said.
