Chapter 714: Underground Strange Tale Room
Chapter 714: Chapter 714: Underground Strange Tale Room
"Why is this place called the Wax Figure Gallery?" Jie Ling asked again from the bottom of her heart, "It could just be called a haunted house and scare people legitimately."
"Just watch, maybe these wax figures are going to sit up in a bit," Long Aotian said intentionally.
Jie Ling didn’t approach the coffin anymore, instead, she urged everyone else, "Let’s hurry up and go."
But Xu Huo and the others weren’t in a rush to leave, it wasn’t very smart to peek into the coffins, so he, Xu Ruosi, and Bai Wenxian, without any prior discussion, took out long props and stabbed the wax figures inside the coffins.
After poking all the coffins in the room, the three of them finally stopped, and just as they were about to leave, several wax figures in the room sat up suddenly, twisting their heads slowly toward their position.
"Move it!" Long Aotian threw a mini basketball that knocked off the head of a wax figure before flying towards the next one as if it had eyes, knocking off the heads of several sitting wax figures in a row. The basketball then flew back, but this time toward Xu Ruosi.
Long Aotian stepped in front of Xu Ruosi to retrieve the prop, smiling, "My Defense Prop has this little problem; it doesn’t distinguish between friends and foes."
Xu Ruosi huffed and put the prop she had already taken out back into her sleeve, "Then you’d better be more careful next time."
"The arrangement of wax figures in the several rooms seems to tell a complete story," Bai Wenxian said. "The figures in the first room are clearly tourists, in the second room they seem to have been attacked, and in the third room, there’s a memorial hall, indicating their death."
"I’m very curious what the fourth room will be."
"Let’s go see and find out," Long Aotian suggested as he led the way into the next room, exclaiming, "It’s actually a funeral parlor and a crematory!"
This room was larger and looked more spacious than the previous ones, and apart from a few wax figures representing the staff, there was only one wax figure on the surface of the furnace used for cremation.
Xu Huo bent down to take a look inside the cremation furnace and pushed the movable furnace bed, then turned to Bai Wenxian, who was walking towards the other side of the room, "What’s behind us?"
"It’s just a funeral parlor, a farewell room, you know, a group of wax figures saying goodbye to the body," Bai Wenxian glanced at the movable furnace bed and added, "This should be the last room, right? I don’t see anything suspicious. Let’s head to Strange Tale Room. It’s accessible through the funeral parlor’s side."
Xu Huo had no objections and called the others to join him.
Passing through the corridor next to the farewell room and a moderately sized lounge, they faced the venue of the Strange Tale Room.
The entrance to the Strange Tale Room didn’t connect to the external doors of the entire venue. The main entrance was a red brick wall, with small doors situated about ten meters apart on either side.
"This place is built like a public restroom," Long Aotian glanced around and joked, "How about we follow the ’men to the left, women to the right’ rule?"
Ignoring his comment, Xu Ruosi chose the door to the left to enter.
Bai Wenxian, following behind, adjusted his glasses, "Women hold grudges more than men. Aren’t you afraid of getting stabbed in the back for that remark?"
Long Aotian chuckled lightly, "Just say I’m petty. What’s with bringing men and women into it? I can remember an insult for eight hundred years!"
Bai Wenxian’s expression paused, and he said no more.
Jie Ling, lagging behind, watched the two men thoughtfully.
The venue for the Strange Tale Room was only as big as one of the rooms in the Wax Figure Gallery, with a long wooden table in the middle and chairs arranged around it. Except for two chairs occupied by wax figures, the rest were empty.
Xu Ruosi first checked the walls of the room, besides the two doors they entered from and a vent, there were no windows or other passages.
"There’s a letter on the table," Jie Ling picked up the dusty envelope, opened it, and read the words aloud, "Every guest who enters the Strange Tale Room is requested to tell a qualified ghost story."
"After completion, there’s a fifty percent chance of obtaining a clue about the secrets of Museum City."
"Only one story is allowed per session, and only one guest may leave. Violating the rules will result in loss of the reward for completing the storytelling."
"If you wish to begin the Strange Tale Night Talk, please take a seat."
Having finished reading, she looked up at the others, "The secrets of Museum City?"
"Could it be related to the missing persons?" Long Aotian became interested and immediately motioned everyone to sit down.
"Not necessarily," Xu Ruosi said. "This is an amusement park, and Strange Tale Night Talk is just one part of it. The clues mentioned in the letter could be the gameplay of other attractions. Don’t forget, Museum City has other features like the chamber of secrets unlocking, and so on."
"It could also be a real clue," Bai Wenxian pondered for a moment. "Since it’s a hidden clue, it should be a special passage, maybe it could open our minds to new ideas."
"There might even be secret passages!" Long Aotian slammed his hand on the table, scattering dust everywhere, and Jie Ling shifted to the side.
"Then let’s give it a try," Xu Huo said as he sat down beside a wax figure.
The other three had no objections and wiped the dust off their chairs before sitting down.
Once everyone was seated, the whole room suddenly shook, then descended like an elevator, dropping about ten meters before coming to a halt.
"We’ve gone underground," Bai Wenxian stated.
"The owner of The Solar Museum City really plays wild," Long Aotian clicked his tongue in wonder.
With a "click," the lights suddenly went out, and then two flames burst into life at the edge of the table. The flames shot up a few inches before slowly lowering. When the light finally stabilized, the wax figure by the table had already started to melt at the top of its head.
"Turns out they’re two big candles," Jie Ling exhaled lightly, "It makes sense, this atmosphere is more suitable for telling stories."
Xu Huo was the first to put on his "Oxygen Supply."
Next to him, Bai Wenxian took out a testing prop and checked the air, the flames, and the wax figure, "All okay, nothing toxic or hallucinogenic, probably just to enhance the atmosphere."
Xu Huo didn’t show any embarrassment, admitting frankly, "I’m afraid of dying, you all do as you please."
Jie Ling and the others looked at each other, except for Xu Ruosi, who was already wearing a mask. The other two took out their defensive props, Jie Ling’s was a toy doll that blew bubbles, purifying the air when placed on her shoulder, while Long Aotian rudely fitted himself with a transparent bucket-like protective shield over his upper body and then gestured to the others to please proceed.
Bai Wenxian trusted his own judgment more and did not take any protective measures.
"Who’s going to tell the first story?" Long Aotian asked in a resonant voice.
"I’ll go," Xu Ruosi volunteered. "Just to be clear, after I finish my story and leave, please don’t rush out and break the rules, as we all stand to lose."
"You go ahead," Long Aotian expressed his commitment to following the rules.
After receiving nods from the others, Xu Ruosi said, "With everyone as my witnesses, then I shall begin."
"Today, I am going to tell you about a personal experience from my grandfather’s youth."
