Chapter 653: Chapter 653: Bold Engagement
The light spots seemed to be leaping closer, hopping from one reflective surface to the next, appearing almost harmless, but a player’s instincts prompted the burly player at the front to throw a defense prop, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do!"
A sumo wrestler figurine made of plastic instantly filled the corridor, but the mirrors did not give way. Instead, the crowded inflatable figures squeezed the Special Defense Department players’ space, forcing several to press up against each other. However, the dolls did not block those light spots!
"Swoosh!" A light spot whistled as it shot out from a mirror, struck a player’s defense prop, and then rebounded into another mirror!
"Lights on!" the burly player bellowed. However, by the time the prop lit up, the same light spots had appeared in several mirrors surrounding them!
"The light spots are multiplying!" the player holding the lantern quickly retracted the prop, but the light spots that had appeared in the mirrors did not vanish. Trembling, they continued to fly out of the mirrors one after the other, bouncing around the confined space like tennis balls filled with springiness.
In such a cramped and narrow space, dealing with one "tennis ball" bouncing around was troublesome enough, let alone eight of them now!
Several players alternated between attack and defense props. Although they could defend against the light spots’ damage, there was no effective way to stop them, and one player was accidentally hit hard enough to break his arm.
"Will you quickly put away the dolls and give us some room?" the short player yelled at the burly player, who replied irritatedly, "You think I dare to? What if they start bouncing even more?"
"We shouldn’t have tried this in the first place!" one of them complained.
It was not a matter of not trying, but rather Xu Huo’s fault for bringing them all in here!
"Don’t just hide back there and stay silent, think of something!" the short player said to Xu Huo.
Xu Huo had already put on a protective suit he had purchased from Zone 011. He cautiously caught the light spots with both props and his hands. The thrust of the light spots when they bounded around was substantial, but with a bit of care, he could avoid hitting vital points. The only trouble was that even if he caught them with his hands or they struck his body, the light spots did not disappear.
Ignoring the short player, Xu Huo pulled out a roll of cloth from the baggage compartment and fiercely flung it onto the nearest mirror.
This was a cloth woven from a prop, which Xu Huo occasionally stockpiled for use in other situations; its width was just right to cover a mirror.
As the woven cloth covered the mirror, the two light spots that were originally flying toward the short player suddenly vanished.
The short player, who had been protecting his face with his hands, noticed the disappearance of the light spots and looked up at Xu Huo. Then, he proactively took the cloth roll from Xu Huo, "Let me help!"
With a few swift cuts, the strips of woven cloth covered all the mirrors. The light spots that kept reflecting and rebounding started to vanish one by one. The players showed looks of relief. The burly player knocked on one of the covered mirrors through the fabric, and with a "crash", the mirror broke.
The group quickly passed through the gap in the mirror, only to see on the other side the corpse of the player who had left with Captain Wang!
"There are bloodstains on the ground." The short player carefully examined it and confirmed it was left by Captain Wang, "He’s gone further in."
"We can still catch up if we go now!" the burly player said. As they were about to proceed, they suddenly realized two people were missing. The mirror that had just been broken had restored itself. The short player walked up to it and gave it a couple of knocks, "Where did Wu Zhao and 3304 go?"
was the number of the protective suit Xu Huo had previously worn from the Special Defense Department. When the burly player shattered the mirror, Xu Huo and the adjacent 3973 were swallowed by another mirror that had moved up from behind on its own, forcibly pulling them into a different mirror space.
The instant he was swallowed up and before he could steady himself, countless mirror shards flew towards him. Xu Huo pushed 3973 aside and slammed his hand down, erecting the "Severance Gate" with a roar in front of him. As the shards fiercely shot out, he grabbed the edge of the gate and flew out sideways, firing a shot at the center of the rapidly closing mirror surface, threading the kite string through it.
The string remained taut for less than a second before falling. Looking at the perfectly restored mirror, Xu Huo slowly retracted the string, conjuring the "Murmur Sphere" in his hand and instantly pulling the entire third floor into his own spiritual world.
With one swipe of his hand on the ground, he took out a hand grenade from his backpack and tossed it forward...
"Damn it!" 3973 jumped behind the Severance Gate at once.
The explosion of the grenade did not rebound back but instead created a large hole in the floor, which should have been made of steel-reinforced concrete but crumbled like dry mud, one after another, causing the mirrors that had no longer a footing to also plummet.
As the surrounding mirrors fell, the players from the Special Defense Department, not far from each other, discovered the figures of their companions, and as this continued, they also spotted a red-clothed woman standing not far away.
Captain Wang, who could still speak, clutched his bleeding chest and threw a house-shaped prop toward her, "Choose a good address and don’t change it!"
When the prop hit the ground, it sprayed out a large square net toward the woman, but she deflected it with a flick of her finger before it could get close. The strong shockwave almost formed a visible shield in the air. The woman landed on a collapsing cement block, flipped her long hair, and with a seductive wink at the crowd, said, "Men are so rough. The Mirror Maze is such a fun prop, and yet you used this method to break it. But that’s the beauty of props: you can always use them anytime, anywhere."
While she spoke, a small mirror piece appeared in her hand, but just as she lifted it, her expression suddenly changed, and she abruptly pulled her hand back and kicked out!
Xu Huo blocked her kick, stepping back two or three paces. The sword in his hand transformed into a Water Cutter Gun, and he continuously fired at her predicted position of movement!
"Boom! Boom! Boom!" Each shot hit the woman’s position, but she seemed to have a transparent protective layer on, blocking the flow of water every time and causing the crumbling concrete to roll along the ground with her movements, wrapping up like a snowball, growing larger and larger.
Dodging the concrete ball, Xu Huo nonchalantly donned a prop coat; his figure once again disappeared like when he had previously attacked the red-clothed woman.
"Playing this trick again!" The red-clothed woman suddenly stopped in her tracks while running, clapped her hands together, and red powder exploded within a five-meter radius around her!
Inevitably, Xu Huo got covered with this powder, but he wasn’t concerned about revealing his whereabouts as he used "Compulsory Forgetting" on the red-clothed woman.
There was a brief moment of confusion on the red-clothed woman’s face, but upon seeing the person forcing their way towards her, her combat instincts quickly kicked in. She pushed her hands forward, "Charm of Rejection!"
Xu Huo, so close, was pushed away, and at the same time, the Crimson Sword cleaved through the air heading straight for the red-clothed woman.
"Bang!"
"Clang!"
The sound of Xu Huo retracting his leg and the red-clothed woman blocking the slash with a defense prop occurred simultaneously. Both ceased their actions and stood five meters apart, eyes locked in a stand-off, and after a brief silence, dust kicked up beneath their feet!
After a fierce exchange, they quickly separated, the red-clothed woman throwing a red line towards Xu Huo as she turned away: "Love binds us heart to heart!"
