"It seems you’re aware that even if the artifact is taken away, the Heavy Rain won’t stop," Xu Huo said. "It seems the stopping of the Heavy Rain has little to do with whether the artifact comes into contact with a large body of water."

Since killing the bearer of the artifact wasn’t an option, the only alternative was to dispose of the artifact.
