Chapter 626: Chapter 626: Replica Reference Object

Ah-Yi revealed a hint of envy, "I don’t have such good props. It was a player from another district I met in a random instance who gave me a bit of advice."

"I’d like to hear more about it," Xu Huo said.

As the three of them walked and talked, "The method isn’t really difficult. You see, doesn’t this instance become more and more realistic as time goes by? There’s a big difference compared to when we first saw the hospital from outside."

Xu Huo nodded. It was because of the instance upgrade that there was a delay today, which gave players the chance to stay outside and thus observe the hospital, which was a good thing for the players but not necessarily for the instance.

However, even if they had entered the instance from the beginning, much of what was in the instance was gradually formed under the players’ imagination. Different time points, different changes within the hospital.

"So the hospital we saw at the beginning is the closest to reality," Ah-Yi explained in detail. "Even if it’s not all real, there is a seven to eight out of ten chance that what we see in the hospital at that time is real. Even if the hospital changes later on, the things we saw at the beginning can still serve as a reference."

"For example, the first objective involved a doctor. We didn’t see any doctors when we were outside, and the head nurse obviously wasn’t real either. So the first objective should be the most difficult."

Hearing this, Xu Huo couldn’t help but glance at him. Compared to the "fixedness" of the subsequent two objectives, the first one, being manipulated by him as the instance holder, indeed could be considered the most difficult for the players.

"The second objective, stealing the sample, is somewhat more real," Ah-Yi said. "I compared the hospital’s size during the day and when we came in last night. The positions marked on the floor plan should be correct. As long as the position is right, it’s not hard to find the sample. At least we can eliminate the instance’s interference."

In a psychic instance, there’s a problem—what you see may not be real. So the players might think they are completing the objectives, but in reality, they might not even be in the right place. If the place is wrong, no amount of effort can help, so eliminating false interferences is fundamental to completing the objectives.

"This method is indeed good," Xu Huo mused for a moment. "Even if the hospital changes at night, remember the rough position of the original hospital to avoid falling into illusions."

Before he made his appearance, Ah-Yi had said something to Ah-Ying that actually had some truth: Believe in something, and it can become real. This principle, when reversed, also works. Whether it’s effective and how well it works depends on the player’s spiritual power and the strength of the instance—with no definite standard or limit.

For example, during the collision of the Aliens in the two labs earlier, if one had memorized the hospital’s floor plan, they should have known that it was a plant laboratory—Aliens couldn’t be held there. This is a form of self-suggestion. If one’s psychic power is strong enough, it’s easy to judge based on established facts whether the things that appear are reasonable and thus confirm one’s judgment to eliminate mental interference.

Ah-Yi had managed to do this, but he was too weak. Even when forcing himself to believe in his own perception, he was still influenced by the instance.

Of course, as far as the players currently trapped in the instance are concerned, all players are inevitably affected by the instance, and the impact grows increasingly profound.

But if it were a player whose psychic power had been enhanced, the situation would be different.

"Choosing reference points, that’s a really good idea," Xu Huo said earnestly, pausing before adding, "If most of the things that first appear in the player’s view in a psychic instance are real, then it means those things are the infrastructure of the instance. In a dire situation, players could also disrupt the instance progress by destroying these things. The prerequisite is that the player is strong enough."

Of course, he thought of a little more than that. The Instance Authorization Document must be kept within the instance and not taken into a personal panel. If the psychic instance site is not large enough, destroying the site might also damage the Authorization Document.

Of course, an instance site is not so easily destroyed, but this is still a direction to consider.

Ah-Yi opened his mouth in surprise and admiration, "You’re really incredible. I hadn’t thought of that much."

Xu Huo, seeing the siblings hadn’t shown the joy of learning the method to pass through, knew they must have been aware of this point early on but chose to conceal it appropriately.

So he said, "Of course, it’s not easy to destroy the infrastructure of an instance, but the instance has its boss, and doing so might provoke the other party."

"If even the instance can’t be destroyed, what’s the use of provoking the instance boss? Isn’t that just inviting him to come out and kill people?" Ah-Ying said.

"It depends on the situation," Xu Huo responded in kind. "The instance boss certainly won’t let players pass easily. Maybe there will be times when the boss blocks the way to pass, and at that time, provoking and leading the boss away could be a chance for survival."

The siblings looked at each other, neither objecting. The method was indeed dangerous, but honestly, when was an instance not dangerous?

The three had reached the upper floor as they spoke. They were unlucky to run into medical staff as they went up. After evading them, they unexpectedly encountered an alarm bell. With the bell ringing, they had to hurry to the sample room, thankfully not returning empty-handed this time. However, there were many samples inside, and as Ah-Yi and his sister rushed in and searched, they didn’t trigger any indication of passing the objective.

"Someone’s coming," Xu Huo said at the doorway. "I’ll hold them off, you guys figure it out quickly!"

The siblings didn’t expect him to be so loyal, and said gratefully, "Give us at most one minute, if we still can’t pass we’ll leave!"

Xu Huo nodded and walked out of the room. Once he reached the corridor, with a wave of his hand, black patches of contamination appeared on the ground and walls. The security staff who came saw this and hurriedly notified doctors to deal with it, not attempting to charge towards the sample room. Instead, they turned back to retrieve protective suits.

"Found it! Found it!" Ah-Ying’s voice came from the sample room. Then Ah-Yi ran out, throwing a wrapped glass vial to Xu Huo from afar before disappearing from the spot.

As the holder of the instance, Xu Huo naturally knew they had passed. He twirled the vial in his hand and handed it over to the medical staff rushing over.

"Director, what are you doing here, did you get hurt?" the medical staff asked with concern.

"I’m fine," Xu Huo said. "When I came here, a lot of samples were dropped on the ground, so you should check if anything is missing. Also, increase the patrol tonight."

The security side hastily arranged, and then the doctor said to him, "A severely ill patient on the seventh floor was just transferred to the quarantine room in building three."

Xu Huo raised an eyebrow, "Where did he come into contact with the contaminant?"

"It seems a patient sneaked into building two’s laboratory and then left, which is how it spread," the doctor said. "All the patients on the seventh floor have been quarantined, and we are going to inspect and clean building one later."

Xu Huo nodded, "You need to thoroughly investigate, and immediately deal with anyone found infected."
