Chapter 612: Just Killing a Few Players

Chapter 612: Chapter 612: Just Killing a Few Players

"My special trait is quite simple—it’s to do makeup for people," Wen Xuelin held out a case. "This is a prop box. If I directly work on the face, I can achieve a 90 percent resemblance, and it’s not easy to detect. Furthermore, the props can’t be undone."

She picked up a pink brush from among the ones in the alley, "Using it is different. It’s one-click makeup, which can be done from a distance, but not too far. The resemblance is probably around seventy or eighty percent. If you wear a mask and a hat, it’s not easy to recognize either. The advantage of this method is that it can change someone’s appearance without their realizing it."

The Girl in the painting’s features gradually changed. From her eyebrows and eyes, one could already see a shadow of Zheng Liang. Once Wen Xuelin finished, she almost looked just like Zheng Liang. She just needed a little alteration to her figure to completely pass as his twin brother.

"Mr. Xu, what do you think? Do I look like him?" Wen Xuelin asked with a slight hint of pride.

"Very much so," Xu Huo was satisfied; the number and frequency of using props for changing appearances were limited, but makeup was not.

The Girl in the painting looked at herself in the mirror from all angles, then showed Zheng Liang two words: "So ugly."

Zheng Liang’s face twitched, and he said irritably, "If I’m ugly, don’t look."

The Girl in the painting obediently closed her eyes.

Zheng Liang, with his fiery temper, slammed the table and stood up to confront Xu Huo, "Did you teach her that?"

Gu Yu couldn’t stop him, and Wen Xuelin was also slightly taken aback. They both hurriedly pushed him back into his seat.

Zheng Liang was stubbornly unwilling to sit down, but then Xu Huo gave him a look. That look was like cold water pouring over him from head to foot, extinguishing all his fiery anger.

Without the need for Gu Yu or anyone else to intervene, he sat down on his own, grumbling, "You’re becoming like Brother Zhi."

"I’m different from him, he wouldn’t lay a hand on you, but I would," Xu Huo tapped the table, "You should temper your temperament."

Zheng Liang was defiant in face though pliant in voice, "Others would kill for an extra glance from this young master!"

Xu Huo did not waste more words and went straight to the point.

First, he needed to know the situation around the headquarters of the Special Defense Department. Saying he was visiting the headquarters didn’t mean he actually planned to enter. He could choose a location that was neither too close nor too far, convenient for the Special Defense Department to wrap things up or provide support if needed.

Secondly, there were too many players gathered around the headquarters, and most of them were not his target. Therefore, it was necessary to disperse them ahead of time, which would require cooperation from many people.

"That’s a lot of manpower needed," Zheng Liang frowned after hearing this, "The Chun Yu Association may not have enough people on its own."

To lure away a large number of players was inherently dangerous; a slight mistake could cost lives. It was best to have many people collaborating, so as not to directly confront other players. Just drawing their attention should be doable.

"I’ve found some other players as well, about fifteen of them," Xu Huo glanced at his phone, "They will arrive in Jing City by the afternoon."

"After you’ve drawn away the players, what do you plan to do?" Gu Yu asked, "There will likely be many Cannibal Players targeting you this time. It’s hard to fend off attacks from all sides by yourself; I think it would be wise for you to be cautious. Also, the situation at the Special Defense Department... is hard to predict."

"Exactly," Wen Xuelin added, "Dai Wenqian getting us to assassinate your stepfather at this time is clearly targeting you."

"If they really wanted to target... Xu Huo, killing anybody but Tang Guangbo would make more sense," Zheng Liang said, "He knows that we’re acquainted. With just a little investigation, wouldn’t the relationship between the two people be obvious? It’s clearly an impossible deal."

"He even circumvented the Special Defense Department to contact us, which indicates he’s acting on his own, with no ties to the department,"

"What exactly does he want to do?" Gu Yu’s face darkened slightly. "Dai Wenqian is very cunning, and it’s unclear how he operates. I’ve heard Director Song has now been dismissed, and in just a few days, he’s already on good terms with the new Director Chang. He wouldn’t go to this length for nothing, right?"

Xu Huo chuckled, "He wants me to kill Tang Guangbo, or he’ll take advantage of the chaos to do it himself."

Dai Wenqian is not a fool; he has also undergone psychological therapy with Tang Guangbo, and by now he must have realized that Tang Guangbo has serious issues.

Contacting Gu Yu to hire an assassin was a multifaceted strategy. If Gu Yu followed through, regardless of the outcome, it wouldn’t affect him, and if Tang Guangbo slipped up in the process, he would be able to intervene through the Special Defense Department.

If Gu Yu decided to refuse the deal and contact him, it would be as if she’s warned him. Dai Wenqian wouldn’t kill a psychology professor for no reason. Xu Huo, also having undergone psych evaluations, would definitely be wary and consider those players who had long been treated by Tang Guangbo as prime sources for verification.

Even if he became suspicious of Tang Guangbo, whether he took action himself or alerted the Special Defense Department would have no bearing on Dai Wenqian.

Just by inquiring a little about whether Dai Wenqian had recently undergone psychological assessment and therapy, one could discern his true intentions.

However, as Xu Huo saw it, the fact that he could consider the rather crude approach of directly killing Tang Guangbo already indicated he had confirmed his suspicions, but lacked evidence. Hence, it wasn’t convenient for him to control Tang Guangbo directly through his superiors. Moreover, he was in an awkward position; rashly exposing a widely acclaimed professor without solid proof would be like digging his own grave.

But it’s different if Xu Huo were to say it. He is a key person of interest for the Special Defense Department and has no conflicting interests with Tang Guangbo.

Psychological changes are a very subtle excuse. Even if Dai Wenqian suspected something wrong with Tang Guangbo, it would be hard to determine if Tang really tampered with something because, once players enter the game, their mindset undergoes major shifts, which even the Special Defense Department can’t use as definitive data.

"Why would he think that way?" Gu Yu looked utterly surprised. "Your relationship with your stepfather can’t be that bad!"

Wen Xuelin tugged at her sleeve, "Even if you don’t trust Dai Wenqian, you should trust Mr. Xu. That Tang Guangbo must be a bad guy!"

Gu Yu sought confirmation from Xu Huo with her eyes.

Xu Huo didn’t spell it out but simply said, "He’s very adept at using psychological suggestion."

"Tang Guangbo is an employed professor whose daily work involves providing players with psychological therapy and evaluations," Zheng Liang exclaimed in horror. "Could it be that he’s targeting Special Defense Department players?"

"It’s not that serious," Xu Huo said. "If it were, Dai Wenqian could have reported him. He’s acting this way because he has no evidence. As for Tang Guangbo, he’s probably conducting experiments."

Gu Yu snorted coldly, "That bastard still wants to exploit the Chun Yu Association, not afraid I’d report him to the Special Defense Department!"

"Do you think the Special Defense Department would believe you?" Zheng Liang pounded the table. "We’ve been Dai Wenqian’s enemies for a long time."

Gu Yu opened her mouth and then deflated. "The motherfucker’s got me playing right into his hands; I must have had terrible luck to have run into such a person in life!"

"With so many players under Dai Wenqian’s command, he’s still using underhanded schemes. It’s hopeless," Wen Xuelin looked at Xu Huo, her eyes filled with expectation. "Let’s hear Mr. Xu’s plan."

Xu Huo’s fingers intertwined in front of him, "It’s not much of a plan, just to eliminate a few Cannibal Players."
