Chapter 282: Chapter 282: The Child Wearing a Hat

"Xu Huo’s words should be fine, right?" Yan Jiayu was speaking. "Didn’t you say he just killed that twin player?"

"But that was before I split up with them..." Peng Ru was worried as Xu Huo went inside after collecting the item from the balcony, "I’m fine."

He looked at the three of them, "How did you all end up together?"

"Weren’t the twins chasing after me?" Yan Jiayu said, "Their ability is too strong; I couldn’t beat them. I ran into Tang Xiao while escaping – he helped me, otherwise, I wouldn’t have gotten away so quickly."

"We met Peng Ru when we came over to find you."

While the two were talking, Peng Ru quietly moved a bit backward, "Mr. Xu, isn’t Jin Zhao with you?"

"I lost track of him at the start of the game," Xu Huo said, "We entered the secret passages one after the other. After I went in, he disappeared, probably captured by a doll and eliminated. We should be able to find him outside the castle after getting through the game."

Tang Xiao nodded, "It’s true that many players were eliminated early on in the hide-and-seek game. We can’t help it; we dare not attack the dolls rashly."

"Did you encounter those players?" Yan Jiayu asked Xu Huo, "Did someone come looking for you again?"

"I’m not sure," Xu Huo said, "After hiding in the secret passage for a while, what I saw when I came out was this scene. If you hadn’t come, I was planning to leave. The scent of blood might attract the Cannibal Player."

"Then let’s hurry up and go," Yan Jiayu said.

Of course, no one objected, but Peng Ru’s sight frantically searched the room. Falling behind the others, she turned her gaze forward but was startled to see Xu Huo staring back at her. Her scalp tingled as she immediately said, "Is something wrong?"

"No, it’s nothing," Xu Huo said, "I just feel like you don’t quite trust me."

Yan Jiayu turned back and said, "Xu Huo wouldn’t lie to you. He’s a good person. If you’re really worried, go find someone outside. After all, there will be more random games."

She was sincere, and if Peng Ru hesitated any further, it would seem like she was overthinking things.

"It’s not that I don’t trust Mr. Xu, I’m just worried about Jin Zhao," Peng Ru said, "This place has become even stranger after entering game mode."

"Like a haunted house, you never know where a hideous doll will pop out." Yan Jiayu had just finished speaking when suddenly a bloody, decomposing bear head burst out from a showcase in the corridor, snarling viciously at her.

Yan Jiayu sidestepped a little and wasn’t bitten; then, with quick reflexes, she closed its mouth by interchanging her hands, grabbed hold of the bear’s mouth to push it back into the cabinet, and locked it with a handle she picked up from who knows where.

Watching the cabinet bang and rattle, she laughed, "It’s quite fun actually."

To avoid attracting more dolls with the noise, they quickened their pace to go downstairs. Just then, they were about to bump into several players sneaking up the stairs. Xu Huo stopped them and quickly opened a door nearby.

After they hid inside, Yan Jiayu leaned against the door to listen for noises outside, waiting until the footsteps faded before turning to signal to the other three.

"The game won’t end until dawn, let’s rest for a while," Tang Xiao said as he moved a cabinet to block the door, and placed a black stone at the corner of the cabinet.

"What’s this?" Yan Jiayu asked curiously.

"The ’Thousand Catty Drop’ prop," Tang Xiao explained while moving the cabinet toward the secret door entrance. "It serves like a door stop, but it’s more effective."

Xu Huo went over to help, kicking aside a doll that was lying against the wall, and said to Yan Jiayu, "Find some rope to tie it up."

Yan Jiayu nodded immediately, pulling out a bag of cable ties from her luggage and binding the doll’s hands and feet, "Now even if they come back to life, they won’t be able to catch anyone."

"Good idea," Xu Huo joined in to help tie them up.

Soon, all the plush toys in the room that could be seen were bound, and not only that, but Yan Jiayu also tore off several curtain strings and tied all these plush toys together.

Looking at the suddenly transformed stuffed toys, Tang Xiao couldn’t help but say, "Is that necessary? They’re just some plush toys."

"This is called taking precautions," said Yan Jiayu as she patted a contorted plush toy. "Who knows if they might eliminate us while we rest."

Tang Xiao no longer said anything and found a place to sit down.

Xu Huo sat next to the room door, looking out the window at the broken bridge behind the castle.

"Has anyone gone over there?" he suddenly asked.

"You mean the other castle across the broken bridge?" Peng Ru joined in the conversation, "I don’t think anyone has been there."

"I haven’t been there either," said Tang Xiao. "The Heifeng Valley castle isn’t a gaming location, so many players found it strange for this Q&A game to occur here."

"Is there something wrong with the back there?" Peng Ru stood up and looked seriously in the direction of the broken bridge for a while. "It’s all worn out; there’s nothing there."

The castle behind had many structural damages, and many areas were visible from a distance. Even if players came here, standing on the bridge or in front of the door would allow them to see inside clearly, so it was not worth going in to explore.

"Shall we go take a look?" suggested Yan Jiayu. "We’re just playing hide and seek, as long as we don’t get caught, we’ll be fine."

"That’s not a great idea," said Peng Ru. "Hide and seek is still part of the Q&A game, and who knows what questions the plush toys will ask when dawn comes. What if it’s related to this game of hide and seek? Would we get eliminated for leaving the castle on our own?"

"Even if we complete this game, we can’t pass through the level," Xu Huo said. "I still have a dozen useless ’small hats’ in my hands."

"You can’t just give up because of that," Tang Xiao quickly replied. "The more ’small hats’ you have, the harder it is to pass through. Since we’ve been waiting for this random location, we should at least obtain one ’small hat’."

"One or a few, it doesn’t make much of a difference," Xu Huo simply stood up. "You all stay, I’ll go take a look."

Yan Jiayu also got up; she was determined to go.

Tang Xiao hesitated, but as the two were about to leave, he quickly followed, "I’ll go too, since I already have plenty of ’small hats’."

Peng Ru watched the three jump down the stairs, and after hesitating, she chose to follow.

Outside, the moonlight was bright. As soon as the four reached the stone bridge, they felt gazes shooting from behind, but fortunately, no other players came out.

"This bridge doesn’t look sturdy at all. Can we jump over?" Peng Ru glanced at the cracked stones under her feet.

"I have no problem," Yan Jiayu warmed up her legs, backed up a distance, took a running start, leaped into the air, and dexterously landed on the other side.

"I have a tool that can take you across," Xu Huo controlled the piano strings to fly next to Tang Xiao, signaling for the two of them to hold on. He transferred the people and then made his cross.

As the group was about to head towards the back castle, Yan Jiayu suddenly stopped, "Do you guys smell something foul?"

As she spoke, she looked up and locked eyes with a small head wearing a hat that protruded from the suspended lighthouse structure.
