Chapter 1440: Chapter 1441: A Unique Performance

Some small details don’t need to be confirmed one by one, so Xu Huo didn’t ask her what kind of prop she arranged, but Yan Jiayu voluntarily informed him, "I have a trade prop that can exchange items, so I mixed it in with the performance props and had a maid place it in the castle. Additionally, I added a Rank-B prop. If I’m lucky, I might be able to exchange it for a prop of the same level."

Items belonging to the castle cannot be taken out, but putting something into the castle doesn’t seem to be illegal.

"Does your prop have to be left behind after the exchange?" Xu Huo raised his eyebrow.

"Of course it does," Yan Jiayu said, "The premise of item-for-item exchange is equivalent exchange. If the exchange is successful, it’s not considered theft. Unfortunately, I don’t know which room has props, so I could only have the maid place it near the banquet hall."

"Does this prop have a long effective time?" Xu Huo asked.

Yan Jiayu nodded, as if it were only natural, and said, "Exchanging items involves bargaining. Sometimes the exchanged item might not even be a prop—it could be a similarly valuable mineral."

"But the props usually used for exchange are ones I don’t use, so I won’t be at a loss."

"There are even occasional surprises."

The banquet began at dusk. The nobles and Jewel City officials, whose residences were unknown before, arrived at the castle on land. Amidst the bright lights, there was a lively and joyous atmosphere. The King, who was supposedly ’heartbroken and ill’ due to the theft of jewels, finally showed up.

He was a particularly melancholic-looking middle-aged man, and even while smiling, one could see his low spirits. Guests who greeted him always had to comfort him with a few words.

Soon, the Queen also appeared, accompanied by Maid Xiao Si. The Queen was very beautiful, and when she appeared, everyone’s gaze in the banquet hall focused on her. She merely nodded slightly at the crowd before walking over to the King, linking her arm with his, and gently smoothing the wrinkles between his brows, "Today’s guests have come for us; don’t let them feel slighted."

The King looked at her with dependence in his eyes, and after a brief speech, announced the commencement of the banquet. fr\eewe.bn(o)v\el.c(o)m

This kind of banquet focused on dancing and small talk. After a few dances, Lady Liya stepped forward and announced that she had invited performers from afar for the King and Queen.

"It’s said their performance is magical and surpasses any circus that has ever come to Jewel City."

"I’ve seen quite a few circuses," a nobleman interjected, "If it’s not novel enough, it’s not worth giving up the opportunity to dance just to stand here simply watching."

The guests laughed courteously, and Lady Liya, covering her lips with a small fan, laughed lightly as well. She then turned her gaze to the Queen standing at the front, bowed slightly, and asked, "May the castle’s most esteemed ones allow the show to begin?"

The Queen looked at the King, who raised his hand slightly. Lady Liya then turned back around, closing her fan and lightly tapping her palm.

Multicolored bubbles floated out from a corner of the banquet hall, quickly filling the entire hall. The dreamlike bubbles, with their flowing colors and long-lasting floating in the air, captured everyone’s attention. Suddenly, Yan Jiayu, dressed in a costume suit, grabbed a large bubble and hopped into the banquet hall.

This was the warmup, and watching her slightly airborne as if running in the air, many women cast curious glances her way. Yan Jiayu stretched her hand towards a young woman nearby.

"Me?" The other responded with slight surprise but still extended her hand under everyone’s gaze. The bubble that was originally in Yan Jiayu’s hand flew towards her, making a slight "pop" sound as it burst. The splattering foam carried a shimmer that made people want to close their eyes, and in the next moment, the bubble reformed, enveloping the young noblewoman within it, and then gently lifting into the air.

The bubble didn’t float far from the ground, ensuring it didn’t cause any feeling of insecurity. As Yan Jiayu pushed it, the woman slowly drifted away, with many people reaching out to touch the bubble during their journey.

"It really won’t break; it’s amazing!"

"This is real magic!"

The bubble landed in front of the King and Queen and burst with a twinkle of light. The noblewoman gracefully curtseyed to them and then stepped back.

After performing two more warm-up acts, Yan Jiayu slowly exited the banquet hall and Xu Huo entered, wearing a mask.

At this time, the bubbles in the banquet hall slowly burst, and amidst the intermittent flashes of light, Xu Huo moved positions, saying, "As a child, I once sleepwalked to another realm where there were giant trees through which one could reach the clouds, spreading vast and delicious fruits bigger than a person’s head all over the mountains. Magical plant seeds could grow overnight to a height taller than a person. Animals could talk and would proactively help humans in trouble, trading fruit they plucked from the mountains for human food."

Aided by Yan Jiayu, several mutant plants rapidly grew along the walls of the banquet hall, flourishing, blooming, and wilting within a few breaths.

Xu Huo continued, "The sky there often showed a myriad of colors. When the sun shone brightly, the sky turned red; during light breezes and rain, the sky was green; when thunder and lightning struck, it transformed to a purple hue. I walked under such skies for three days and nights. The path beneath my feet was sometimes covered with vast green grass, other times with a layer of frost. Sometimes, on the left, you could build a snowman, while on the right, it was a perfect time for farming..."

"Such a magical place bewitched me, and I intended to stay there long-term, but soon a mysterious giant appeared. He told me that was not my homeland and urged me to leave quickly."

"I begged him to tell me how to enter that mysterious place again. The giant only said each person could only visit once in their lifetime, and I had already been there, so I could never go back."

The audience in the banquet hall sighed along with Xu Huo’s disappointed tone, but they quickly perked up as he said, "But the giant, pitying me as a child, taught me three forms of magic, the first of which is flying."

As his words ended, he shifted to the banquet hall’s door and slowly ascended toward the ornately decorated ceiling.

In the midst of exclamations, he blew gently into a borrowed prop from Yan Jiayu in the direction of the banquet hall. A light mist flowed from the small trumpet, quickly enveloping the entire banquet hall, giving the illusion that everyone was amidst clouds.

"I want to fly too! I want to fly too!"

Having experienced the floating bubbles earlier, some girls couldn’t resist stepping forward. Xu Huo didn’t descend but, from a distance, used his cape to envelop the dresses of two girls. With a lift of his hand, he pulled the two up into the air.

The two floated lightly in the air, able to change their posture and move freely, as if they could truly fly. During this time, a girl reached out to them, and upon making contact, she too was gently lifted, though only a few inches off the ground.

Several girls, hand in hand, gracefully fluttered around the banquet hall like fairies, inciting rounds of enthusiastic applause.
