Chapter 1284: Chapter 1285: Fingers Leak Wind
"Yes, it just depends on whether you dare to come." The female player said with a smile.
Xu Huo raised his eyebrows, "Open the door."
Two minutes later, the five players in the room were in a similar state to Jiao Cheng and the others earlier, except they hadn’t been injected with potions but had each had a leg broken.
"What do you want to do!" Forced to bow while under a low roof, the female player asked in a suppressed voice.
"Weren’t you the one who called me up?" Xu Huo said, "I came to buy something, yet you wanted to kill me, breaking a leg isn’t too much."
The few of them could only admit it, "We don’t have any ore, but we know where it’s sold."
"I’ve already been to the underground market," Xu Huo said first, "If you’re referring to that old man, don’t bother."
Compared to Jiao Cheng’s petty tricks, the female players were obviously a bit more "experienced," "That old man is just a scavenger, mostly helping to make connections. There are people on this street who can directly obtain ore."
Xu Huo turned to look at Jiao Cheng.
"Big brother, I really didn’t know that." Jiao Cheng hurriedly said, "I don’t usually come around here."
Xu Huo did not press further and instead had the female player contact the player she mentioned.
The communicator in District 001 had basically popularized holographic projections, allowing for "face-to-face" conversations, but because communications could easily be leaked, many players only chose voice calls or text messages.
"Brother Yu, someone wants to get some good ore." The female player glanced at Xu Huo, "He’s an outsider player, got cash, but whether or not this can be a deal depends on you."
Over there, Brother Yu hesitated for a moment and said he would have someone come over to lead the way later.
"Just wait," the female player said.
Xu Huo picked up her communicator for a moment and then tossed it aside, saying to Jiao Cheng, "Let’s go!"
Jiao Cheng thought there was danger and was about to jump out the window, but the next second, Xu Huo pulled him back, and then they moved underground.
The underground passage covered the entire city, so there were tracks under this block too. Compared to the conspicuousness above ground, it was much more convenient below.
They had barely walked a few seconds before six players arrived near the small house, the leader being a man without eyebrows, whom the female player had contacted, Brother Yu. He was quite friendly with the female player and the first thing he did was check her injuries.
"Where are they?" he asked.
"They’ve already left," the female player sat down gingerly with one leg supported, looking upset, "Really bad luck, I knew I shouldn’t have provoked them, one of them is a Super Evolver, quite powerful."
Upon hearing this, Brother Yu first suspected the motives of the newcomers, but the female player shook her head, "Don’t worry, they’re not your enemies. They seem like outsiders, they went to the underground market but didn’t get any ore, probably the same as those who heard gossip and want to get a prophetic prop."
Brother Yu relaxed a bit and sneered, "Each one of them is an idiot. If it were really possible to make prophetic props, would anyone sell them?"
The female player seemed to share this view but added, "What we’re doing isn’t going anywhere. The stuff coming from the mining area is getting worse and players from outside aren’t fools, not so easy to scam. Moreover, ore isn’t cheap, and when they come back to trouble us, it’s our trouble. We take the risk at the front, but don’t get much money... I’d say let’s just stop this business?"
Brother Yu’s face darkened, "You don’t need to worry about this."
The female player glared at him for two seconds and then relented, "Or we should demand a higher cut, otherwise why do this? Did you hear what I said?"
"Got it, got it." Brother Yu dismissed her words and then shifted the topic to her injured leg, after a bit of flirting, he left with his men.
After they had walked a bit, the bald player following him spoke, "Brother Yu, increasing the cut, I fear Brother Song won’t agree."
Brother Yu waved dismissively, "Don’t listen to her nonsense. Does she really think this business is for making money? Doesn’t she see who allows the ore to be sold? We’re helping the Han Family."
A bunch of underlings immediately flattered him with a few words and inadvertently revealed a bit more, it turned out that the secret selling of ores involved a young member from the Han Family — generally, non-key figures couldn’t get close to the mining operations, if this person could smuggle ores out, it meant he was at least part of the branch currently heading the Han Family.
"With someone backing you, there’s someone to cover up when things go wrong." Brother Yu smirked, "Otherwise, our kind wouldn’t be able to survive in Flower City!"
So for the follow-up on the ore, he didn’t mention it to the "Brother Song" the underlings spoke of, but instructed his men to tighten surveillance around, lest they get noticed.
Brother Yu indeed acted cautiously, his "office" was equipped with sensing facilities capable of detecting Psychic Power, Xu Huo’s Vertical Pupil didn’t go inside, the room was specially treated once the door was closed, making it impossible to spy from outside.
But there wasn’t nothing gained, at least Xu Huo learned that this Brother Yu reported to someone named "Brother Song," and the one likely leaking information could be the Han Family.
However, this needed verification.
In the true information age, as long as it passed through the Collection of Information Terminal, it was hard not to leave any traces, so Xu Huo, through a channel provided by Jiao Cheng, found someone working on a platform for trading communication information and bought Brother Yu’s recent call logs and text messages from him.
The call records and text messages were all encrypted using specific terms, like weather, some fruit or vegetable as substitutes. Fortunately, these codes were simple, and Xu Huo easily found parts about ore shipments, identifying Brother Yu’s superior "Brother Song."
As for "Brother Song," he was even more cautious, using an independent communicator that was only in contact with Brother Yu and no one else, with no fixed location for its signal.
Xu Huo marked a rough area on the map, around the city center, without even entering the direct administrative zone.
The city center had collapsed and was under repair, so the person probably wouldn’t show up around there again, and these contact details were likely for arranging deliveries — earlier he had seen the High Ponytail duo from Card City trading during a visit to the city center.
Turning to the uninterested Jiao Cheng beside him, he asked, "Yesterday at noon, what were you and your partner trading at the city center?"
Surprised and skeptical, Jiao Cheng said, "You were already tracking us!"
Xu Huo’s expression turned cold, not wanting to waste words.
Jiao Cheng noticed the killing intent and quickly said, "It was a commissioned task, someone hired us to find a missing child. Later, we found out the person was taken to Card City but couldn’t spare ourselves, so we contacted someone else for help!"
