Chapter 1282: Chapter 1283: Leading the Way
Among the four, the broad-faced man and the one responsible for the transaction sat opposite, while the short man was next to Jiao Cheng. The moment Xu Huo was discovered, the two in front initiated an attack, with Jiao Cheng dodging sideways and the short man lunging forward to quickly create distance.
Props and weapons almost flew at his face as Xu Huo swiftly raised several barriers in front of him with a wave of his hand, then smiled at them, "Don’t be nervous, I just want to have a chat."
The four facing him didn’t stop for a single word, continuously hurling props at him. The broad-faced man was clearly in charge of covering the retreat, his attack the fiercest, while the other three hit as they prepared to flee.
Space-time class props have mutually incompatible characteristics; during their use, higher level props with wider coverage can weaken or completely negate the effects of lower level ones, and time items, simply by being worn alone, can dodge certain effects from similar props.
The super props vary in type, and the range of their effects is not fixed, but "Three Seconds of a Lifetime" can reverse time by three seconds. Xu Huo has not specifically validated it, having used it thrice in instances and on a train, so he can’t be sure exactly how wide the coverage is. However, at the very least, during those few times he used it, there was no discrepancy in time, meaning it is enough to change the time of a spatial class prop entirely.
This applies during prop usage, and normally, the influence range of super props may not be that large, but it is sufficient to affect a city. Therefore, unless necessary, Xu Huo doesn’t directly wear "Three Seconds of a Lifetime" on him, especially in an environment like Flower City.
Thus, he didn’t use "Three Seconds of a Lifetime" to seal off this space, but rather used Cubic Space and Spiritual World to cut off their escape—perhaps he underestimated them, as none of these people directly used a spatial prop to flee. By the time they realized, the precious few seconds of escape time were gone, and each received a fresh dose of "Friendly Interrogation."
This is a type of interrogation potion, a reward from the Maze instance, capable of rendering someone completely limp in a very short time without losing consciousness.
Half a minute later, the four bruised and swollen individuals had their hands bound behind their backs, kneeling side by side on the ground, supporting each other so as not to fall.
Xu Huo pulled up a chair beside them, grabbed a fruit from the table, and peeled it, feeding the flesh into his mouth piece by piece in front of them.
He ate the fruit silently, his icy gaze fixed on them as if pondering how to deal with them, yet also like he had already decided how to dispose of their bodies... Anyway, once this fruit was finished, he would have his answer.
Jiao Cheng couldn’t hold back, "Boss, we were wrong today. We’ll return your money and compensate you with an extra hundred thousand White Notes. How does that sound?"
Xu Huo didn’t speak, leaving Jiao Cheng uncertain of his attitude; he hesitated before adding, "The few of us brothers are truly poor, otherwise we wouldn’t be out scamming. Why don’t you give us an idea, we’ll certainly do our best to comply!"
Throwing the peel into the trash can, Xu Huo finally spoke, "How long have you been in Flower City?"
The others remained silent, leaving Jiao Cheng to answer, "I’ve been in Flower City the longest, moved here with my cousin when I was about ten. The other three arrived later. Are you looking for information?"
"I heard there’s a vein in Flower City that exclusively produces foresight props, not publicly sold but circulating in the underground market." Xu Huo paused, "Judging by your appearance, you’re probably not in this business, but acting once more as a broker shouldn’t be an issue."
Upon hearing this, Jiao Cheng’s expression relaxed slightly, "Alright, no problem. I happen to know a runner who can take you there. However..."
"What?" Xu Huo raised an eyebrow.
"The quality of the minerals in the underground market aren’t very good, to put it bluntly they’re scraps. They can’t even be used as raw materials for making foresight props." Jiao Cheng cautiously explained, "If you’re looking for foresight props, the odds may not be favorable..."
"Saying ’not favorable’ is sugar-coating it," the short man said with a bit of sarcasm, "I think you’re not really after props but have other plans!"
Jiao Cheng’s seemingly helpful advice carried a probing implication; buying props would be easier on the game’s back-end. Why bother with the underground market? The real intent can’t be for those low-quality minerals, implying there’s another purpose unknown to them.
"Do you have other choices?" Xu Huo lowered his gaze upon the foursome, "Even with the potion in your bodies, you’re far from recovering instantly; Or do you want to try to get lucky at the station?"
The faces showed varying degrees of regret, but it was too late. Jiao Cheng quickly proposed terms, "I can take you to the underground trading market, but you must release the other three."
"No problem." Xu Huo replied swiftly, "Once I’ve seen the person, you can all leave."
He took out the frame.
"World in the Painting" is a gift from the art museum’s curator, capable of containing two persons for up to thirty days. After leaving the high-risk instance last time, Xu Huo placed Jiang Wenzhang inside, and hasn’t bothered with him since returning to Zone 014; the person is still alive.
"You promised to let me go!" As soon as he emerged, the abstract face within the painting struggled dramatically forward, unable to leave the frame, making an already unpleasant face look worse.
Xu Huo remained unfazed, "Aren’t I letting you go now?"
Jiang Wenzhang inside the painting paused, suspiciously asking, "Are you really letting me go?"
Xu Huo blocked the view of Jiao Cheng and the others, opened a portal to a nearby street, and dumped the person from the frame.
The emerging Jiang Wenzhang didn’t disappear, indicating he, as an undocumented individual, entered somewhere other than a Wormhole Point, officially remaining a fugitive, though he could avoid entering an instance as long as he didn’t use tickets.
"Haha! How lucky I am..." Jiang Wenzhang laughed and turned around, but no one was behind him.
Xu Huo returned to the room where Jiao Cheng and the others were, placing the now-empty frame in front of them, "Who goes inside?"
The short man was about to speak when the broad-faced man suddenly collapsed forward; in a flash, the broad-faced man was sucked into the frame, turning into a simply lined portrait.
"Old Song!" The short man shouted, but the man in the painting said, "Don’t worry about me, worst case scenario, I’ll just die!"
Xu Huo collected the painting, smiling, "Rest assured, he’ll be released once the job is done."
