Chapter 1184: You Are Courting Death

Chapter 1184: Chapter 1184: You Are Courting Death

"I’m not your enemy. You can relax your guard against me a little," Tang Guangbo still maintained his approachable demeanor. "In this world, many people stop at nothing for their own interest, but there are also those who sacrifice themselves in pursuit of ultimate ideals."

Xu Huo smirked.

"In my case, it can’t be considered self-sacrifice, but at least I haven’t done anything bad," Tang Guangbo said meaningfully. "Not in any sense of the word."

Xu Huo was hardly going to believe him. Pausing for a moment, he said, "You remind me of someone else."

"Your teacher?" Tang Guangbo casually followed up, then added as Xu Huo’s expression shifted slightly, "From the current circumstances, it seems your teacher never persecuted you—on the contrary, they opened the door to Spirit Evolution for you during your childhood, which is a chance many people would dream of."

"Maybe you felt you had no choice back then, but now you’ve also become a Player, similarly choosing the path of Spirit Evolution. So in terms of the outcome, your teacher can’t really be considered a bad person."

"Moreover, you can still use your recovered memories to complete the third evolution."

Xu Huo avoided commenting on that and instead said, "My memory seems to have been rewritten twice."

Tang Guangbo nodded. "Indeed, two times. But without loosening the seal on your memories, gradually recovering childhood memories is already quite remarkable. When you came upstairs earlier, your clothes were completely soaked, indicating substantial mental shock. At the start of this treatment, I told you the outcome may not necessarily be positive."

"At the same time, you also need to consider the possibility of finding your memories but being unable to complete the third evolution while suffering mental damage."

"You’re desperate for the third evolution to suppress childhood influences. But honestly, your childhood doesn’t have much impact on you."

After pausing for a bit, Tang continued, "You’re a mentally healthy person. Trust yourself."

Having started, Xu Huo had no intention of turning back halfway. He reached out his hand, intending to dive back into the water. But at that moment, Tang Guangbo suddenly grabbed him forcefully, pulling him back, smiling as he said, "Do you know what kind of patient doctors dislike the most?"

Xu Huo raised a brow in response, and when he looked up again, he found himself trapped inside a cage.

This was undoubtedly Tang Guangbo’s mental suppression. Xu Huo knocked on the cage, "Doing good deeds doesn’t work like this."

"Doctors have an obligation to save their patients. I can’t just watch you walk into death without stopping you," Tang Guangbo said matter-of-factly, then pulled out a notebook and began recording observations on him.

"You’re a highly representative sample. I’ve always been very interested in your various data sets."

"This is a win-win situation."

Xu Huo, finding himself a willing captive, showed no signs of anger. "Before the treatment began, I thought you’d be able to compete with Doctor Zhang. I didn’t expect you couldn’t even manage to restrain the fragments of memory he left behind. Honestly, I’m a bit disappointed."

Tang Guangbo chuckled and gestured nonchalantly.

Agitating him seemed ineffective, and amidst Xu Huo’s tug-of-war between Tang Guangbo and Doctor Zhang’s memories, he was equally unable to open his Spiritual World... The situation was at an impasse.

"It’s been half an hour already." A psychologist confirmed the time again, doubtfully remarking, "Why hasn’t there been any movement?"

Typically, Players undergoing treatment would exhibit aggressive behaviors due to overwhelming trauma, often targeting the professor supervising the treatment—an outcome consistent with their understanding of Players. Xu Huo’s case was unusually quiet.

The Players observing the treatment process from the glass window were equally puzzled. Five minutes ago, they’d detected a strange fluctuation of energy, which vanished in an instant. Aside from that, there was nothing else, and their understanding of Spirit Evolution was merely superficial at best—they couldn’t say for sure what was happening.

Nie Xuan leaned against the corridor background while smoking. That fluctuation earlier wasn’t spiritual power—it was Spatial Power. In the room, only he and possibly Tang Guangbo could sense Spatial Power. This was Xu Huo’s hint.

Looking at the person lying serenely in the chair, breathing evenly, and at Tang Guangbo next to him, continuing to write, Nie Xuan flicked his cigarette to the ground, stomped it out, and opened the treatment room’s emergency switch.

"Nie Xuan, what are you doing..." The professors beside him were shocked, but no one could stop him. With a glance, Nie Xuan entered the treatment room, strode over to Tang Guangbo, said, "Sorry!" then grabbed his hands, pinned them behind his back against the table, and swung a prop to electrocute him fiercely.

Under the collective gaze of the others, Tang Guangbo became limp after the electric shock, casting pleading looks toward the outside of the room.

Three Players entered the treatment room and held Nie Xuan down while helping Tang Guangbo up. After confirming the electric shock marks on his body, they nodded toward their companions.

Nie Xuan allowed himself to be pressed by his comrades, apologizing insincerely, "Sorry, Professor Tang. I guess I must have been seeing things—I thought you were about to use your pen to kill Xu Huo, so I rushed in impulsively. Want me to return the favor and let you shock me?"

Tang Guangbo took a sip of water with the "help" of another Player, waved his hand to indicate he didn’t want to talk to him, and then said to the others, "The treatment isn’t over yet. You all should leave."

The others exchanged looks without leaving, until Nie Xuan once again felt a Spatial Power fluctuation. Shaking off the hands on his arm, he straightened his clothes and said, "I’ll go back and write a self-reflection."

One after another, the others left. When Tang Guangbo returned to sit beside Xu Huo, he found he had already entered his sealed memories and forcibly started the third evolution.

"Reckless fool." Tang Guangbo adjusted his glasses, silently uttering those words.

Xu Huo’s condition was far from ideal. As his consciousness deepened, the disembodied eyes representing space multiplied within the floating frames. The library he kept opening was repeatedly cast off into different spatial realms, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

After several attempts, he recognized the truth—within this Mental Portal, his Spiritual World had been severed.

Unable to go in or out, Xu Huo was trapped within one of the uncountable spaces.

It was unclear how much time had passed before the sound of ticking reappeared in his ears. Looking up, the eyes above this space were replaced by a clock face, and as the clock descended, the surrounding eyes attempting to crowd in were pushed away. The environment shifted back to the treatment room.

This time, however, the two weren’t seated; instead, they were squeezed together face-to-face. The nearby white space churned like milk, occasionally revealing glimpses of eyes swirling within, fleeting and intermittent.

"Professor Tang is truly living up to his reputation." Xu Huo smiled politely.

Tang Guangbo was far less pleased. "This is suicidal."

Xu Huo remained unfazed. "I didn’t die twenty years ago, and I certainly won’t die today. Professor Tang, how about lending a hand? Once I complete the third evolution, I’ll work with you to finalize the experimental data. How’s that sound?"
